When i have used the Dreamliner on long trips from Vancouver to Asia, i have noticed i don't get as tired on this plane. They keep the humidity higher, and the air pressure better. Ex: instead of feeling you are at say 10,000 feet altitude, you only feel like at 6,000 ft. Makes a big difference. My figures may not be right, but you get the idea. It is about the same service, except there are two meals. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

The best thing about the London to Calgary flight is that it takes off and lands at reasonable times. Compared to the all night Calgary to London. But I wish it went to Heathrow because the Piccadilly goes straight to our usual hotel quick, cheap and easy. We were thinking next fall but maybe this Oct or Nov might be a plan.

Thank-you for sharing your flight experience with us, Alex. You certainly had the right seat for being so tall. Of course it is a shame that folks congregated in your space while waiting for the lavatory. I had a similar waiting experience for a flight from Brussels to JFK. The L-1011 had a broken refueling gizmo. We did board about 3 hours early, and I was able to watch the refueling crew use a hose to refuel via the wing top fuel access point. To keep everyone happy, the flight attendants started adult beverages flowing.
As many have stated, that was an awesome bridge from which you could view the aircraft at the gates. If I ever have to fly out of Gatwick, I will be sure to build in time to do some plane spotting from there.
It was nice that you were able to view Greenland as you chased the sun home. It is so much easier for me to cure jet lag when flying west for some reason.
Again, thank-you for the video. I look forward to viewing your next post.

I flew to and from Gatwick in March of 2020 (excellent timing I know) and I had the exact same service. The delay is common as I was delayed for 2 hours on my return flight as well. Its nice to see service like that on a building airline like WestJet. Can't wait to see how it improves.

Its interesting how alex called a 5 hour layover long cuz i had to spend 9 hours in Amsterdam with 0 delays at all. That was enough time for 2 787-9s to arrive and turn around, both to Mexico City, and then even more time for our plane to get a couple of new seats. I did get some nice pictures of aircraft near our gate. It was something i will never forget

  • @carlhaluss

Thanks for the great video! I was curious to see just what Westjet's Transatlantic economy service is like! Very impressive! At least they give you the choice of having a pre dinner beverage before the meal service, unlike AC, which I find very tacky! Also, the meals look a lot more appealing. I will definitely give Westjet a try next time!

Couldn't agree more about them being the best Canadian airline. My family avidly uses aeroplan and thus air miles - we have a ton saved up, and so we almost always fly AC. Westjet has always been a breath of fresh air - always felt less cramped, cleaner and overall, I just felt way better about it compared to AC. When AC introduced Rouge, that's what immediately sold me on Westjet. Rouge really isn't much cheaper compared to the old AC flights, and any routes now served by Rouge have no standard AC service.

I've made the mistake of booking the front row of economy on a BA 787 (9 across just like WestJet). The already narrow seat from the 9 across density was even narrower due to the table and TV taking up armrest room.
Last year I was lucky enough to fly in economy on a JAL 787 where it's only 8 seats across. So much better!

I am also a WestJet fan. I am pleasantly surprised that they sort of managed to hang in
during the Covid years. Gosh, speaking about unfortunate timing. The people I know that
work for WestJet are very proud that they are, and I wish them good luck and an A+ for tenacity. Thank Alex for making me forget for 16 minutes and 2 seconds that the world is on fire.

First off, excellent video man! As a fellow YYC’r I am pretty excited to fly this route once things calm down. I always saw it pre pandemic but never had the time or money to really go. Seems like WJ does a pretty good on job long haul. I flew YYC to YOW and back a couple weeks ago on some sort of 737NG and the cabin was way too cramped, not enough over head bin capacity, late (due to unforeseen mechanical problems), and boarding was disorganized both times. I think both times they were overbooked.

I am glad you had a decent experience with WestJet. I flew from Edinburgh to Calgary (via Halifax/Toronto). It was a nightmare trip. I was sent to the wrong gate by the agent.. almost missed my flight after asking everyone who looked like an employee where my plane was supposed to be (thanks to last-minute departure gate notifications.. like WTF?) No one told me I had to download the WestJet app for inflight entertainment, so no movies for me. Tried to download the app by paying for internet, but the bandwidth was so slow, I couldn't download the app in time before the paid half-hour expired. Food was only for sale on the plane; they ran out of everything mid-atlantic. Had to clear customs in Halifax.. almost missed my plane yet again. No time for a meal there or in Toronto due to tight timings. I flew Condor to Europe on the way there.. and wished that I had used them for the return trip as well. WestJet is no better than Air Canada in my opinion. Maybe it's different now, who knows.. but it left a permanent bad taste in my mouth for WestJet.

@6:55 spoiler auto bias up for flap deployment. Because of the tight tolerance between the spoiler panels and flaps, the spoilers are biased up when flaps are selected from the up position to prevent damage to either the flaps and spoiler panels.

The gap between the north and south terminal is annoying for me but I'm sure you'd find many things to enjoy about it. The other decent thing about the airport is it's easy to get to by train. And to top it off you got to see LCY and what looked like LHR traffic on your way out?

$50 dollar vouchers? For a 3 hour delay? Westjet is so nice. For the same delay, Air Canada gave us $10 at YVR, not the best place to spend 3 hours waiting (maybe I don't know where to look though).
