When i have used the Dreamliner on long trips from Vancouver to Asia, i have noticed i don't get as tired on this plane. They keep the humidity higher, and the air pressure better. Ex: instead of feeling you are at say 10,000 feet altitude, you only feel like at 6,000 ft. Makes a big difference. My figures may not be right, but you get the idea. It is about the same service, except there are two meals. Thanks for bringing back good memories.
Alex, I've watched my fair share of TH-cam aviation videos and I find your videos quite impressive! This was a masterclass of great videography mixed with enough entertainment to keep it interesting. Well done and thank you!
I flew on the WestJet 787-9 Dreamliner to Maui from Calgary in November 2019 and it was one of the best planes I've been on in my life. A really nice aircraft.
The best thing about the London to Calgary flight is that it takes off and lands at reasonable times. Compared to the all night Calgary to London. But I wish it went to Heathrow because the Piccadilly goes straight to our usual hotel quick, cheap and easy. We were thinking next fall but maybe this Oct or Nov might be a plan.
Hey Alex: This is your usual, very professional review. I have followed you since day one and apart from only a couple of early glitches, your videos are great to follow and I alway look forward to seeing them. Thank you for this one that was enjoyable and informative. Cheers, Colin.
Thank-you for sharing your flight experience with us, Alex. You certainly had the right seat for being so tall. Of course it is a shame that folks congregated in your space while waiting for the lavatory. I had a similar waiting experience for a flight from Brussels to JFK. The L-1011 had a broken refueling gizmo. We did board about 3 hours early, and I was able to watch the refueling crew use a hose to refuel via the wing top fuel access point. To keep everyone happy, the flight attendants started adult beverages flowing. As many have stated, that was an awesome bridge from which you could view the aircraft at the gates. If I ever have to fly out of Gatwick, I will be sure to build in time to do some plane spotting from there. It was nice that you were able to view Greenland as you chased the sun home. It is so much easier for me to cure jet lag when flying west for some reason. Again, thank-you for the video. I look forward to viewing your next post.
11:49 I'd have to agree with you. When I flew the exact same flight both ways in August 2019, I was thoroughly impressed with the complimentary meals on both flights.
I flew to and from Gatwick in March of 2020 (excellent timing I know) and I had the exact same service. The delay is common as I was delayed for 2 hours on my return flight as well. Its nice to see service like that on a building airline like WestJet. Can't wait to see how it improves.
Great vid. Based in YUL, I worked LGW for two summers (2014 and 2019) as an engineer for a Canadian airline. Good airport and great city. Can't wait to be posted back there.
I flew with Westjet from London to Ottawa via Halifax. Great flight, best price, and the food was good (butter chicken). That was on their 737 Max. My flight was october of 2019.
In 2019 when I went from yyc to Glasgow airport, my family had the middle seats with extra leg room. People always stepped on our feet and walked in front of us to get from one isle to another. It was quite satisfying when they got in trouble from the flight attendants
nice video. You narrate nicely and show lots of interesting aspects of a stopover. I live in Calgary but have not been on a plane since 2005. I am currently disabled and just think it would be to much of a headache to try to fly. So for people like me, your videos allow us to live vicariously thru your videos, and it feels like we are right there with you enjoying the flight. Thank you very much
p.s.- I dont know if westjet is paying you to say only good words. But that meal in economy looks rather disgusting, so when I heard you praise the food, I thought for sure they were paying you to make this video
@@jamesbrunette3093 in my experience the food in economy class usually looks disgusting but actually tastes pretty alright. So I wasn’t too surprised when he said that the meal was good.
Its interesting how alex called a 5 hour layover long cuz i had to spend 9 hours in Amsterdam with 0 delays at all. That was enough time for 2 787-9s to arrive and turn around, both to Mexico City, and then even more time for our plane to get a couple of new seats. I did get some nice pictures of aircraft near our gate. It was something i will never forget
Thanks for the great video! I was curious to see just what Westjet's Transatlantic economy service is like! Very impressive! At least they give you the choice of having a pre dinner beverage before the meal service, unlike AC, which I find very tacky! Also, the meals look a lot more appealing. I will definitely give Westjet a try next time!
Great video. Just a general comment. I never will understand why airlines started charging for exit door seats. I used to be for ABP's that could help in a possible emergency if crew became incapacitated.
@@JM-lg6qe What do you mean? I'm genuinely curious, I haven't heard of any major scandals, and aside from ripping you off on a short haul flights, much the same as aircanada their pretty good.
Couldn't agree more about them being the best Canadian airline. My family avidly uses aeroplan and thus air miles - we have a ton saved up, and so we almost always fly AC. Westjet has always been a breath of fresh air - always felt less cramped, cleaner and overall, I just felt way better about it compared to AC. When AC introduced Rouge, that's what immediately sold me on Westjet. Rouge really isn't much cheaper compared to the old AC flights, and any routes now served by Rouge have no standard AC service.
We are just looking at booking flights for Vancouver with West Jet, after seeing your review, am so excited to fly with them now, thank you for your video.
I've made the mistake of booking the front row of economy on a BA 787 (9 across just like WestJet). The already narrow seat from the 9 across density was even narrower due to the table and TV taking up armrest room. Last year I was lucky enough to fly in economy on a JAL 787 where it's only 8 seats across. So much better!
It looked a hell of a lot roomier than that awful 777 10 seats layout. Nicely done Alex I am also a WestJet fan. I am pleasantly surprised that they sort of managed to hang in during the Covid years. Gosh, speaking about unfortunate timing. The people I know that work for WestJet are very proud that they are, and I wish them good luck and an A+ for tenacity. Thank Alex for making me forget for 16 minutes and 2 seconds that the world is on fire. Greetings from YVR
Excellent video, Alex! I loved the skybridge which the planes taxi under. Incredible, and unusual close-ups of the Norwegian and WJ planes passing under! Awesome! I can only think of PHX (Phoenix) as another airport with that kind of bridge. I miss flying....I haven't flown since 2006! 😢
