Quick tip-Stop shutting the bikes down immediately after a full-throttle run. It puts a lot of heat into the top end of the barrel, head, piston crown and exhaust ports, which require coolant flow to remove and dissipate the heat. Engine components generally live much longer, happier lives if they are heated and cooled gradually. Most mechanical systems are the same-try parking your car immediately after doing something like a 20 minute session on a racetrack. You”get a big hot spot where the calliper and brake pads sit and I’ve seen a number of cracked rotors. What you’ll usually see at track days with modded road cars is a bunch of people driving slowly behind the pits for 3 or 4 minutes to slowly remove heat from brake rotors. This cooling period is not just for brakes, it’s also done to slowly remove heat from the engine.
