Nepalis go pretty much everywhere in cheap-o flip flops. Sometimes smoking a cigarette while carrying a 100kg sack of rice and passing you on the trail.

      But that's an unfair comparison.
      They have a genetic/evolutionary advantage

I get "I can't believe you're hiking in sandals!!!" almost daily

People that say you can’t hike in sandals should look at what Ancient Greek and Roman soldiers marched and fought in.

Me and my dad hike barefoot and it's actually pretty funny that people have not said anything stupid about it yet. We have had some people admiring the fact that we can and dare do it though

I get that about barefoot "youre brave" is the thing i hear the most. As if you need to be brave if you dont have soft feet and look where you're walking, lol.

I've been walking for 40 years and still stub my toes occasionally... Shoes for me, but I envy you the weight savings.

I had the opposite actually. I seen a dude and his partner confidently hiking with full packs and their Tevas and that broke the ice for me.

I only hike in sandals in the summer. I’ve gone many hundreds of miles on sandals

My only issue when I had them was non stop debris getting under my foot. Had to constantly stop to brush them out. That was my only complaint I had with mine before my dog destroyed them.

My foot always slides around too much or I get lots of small debris between my foot and the sandal. Not sure how people do it with any level of comfort.

You might try adding on a power strap, which many sandal brands sell. It can help your foot not slide around. I have skinny feet, but have found that as long as the straps are cinched nice and tight I usually experience minimal slippage and debris.

I used to crawl all over the mountains in nothing but water shoes, but I always had regrets. Pine needles hurt. Sharp gravel hurts. Twisting your ankle hurts... I only did it because I despise socks.

I recommend transitioning to barefoot. Trust me, your feet will grow stronger and sturdier.
Just keep in mind to not overdo.

it always confuses me when people act like humans can only traverse in our natural environment in a certain type of shoe, people have been walking barefoot since the beginning of time- and in lighter footwear like sandals for the rest of the majority ..
