Societal breakdown, weak parenting, lack of discipline, a soft criminal justice system and a lack of deterrent are all significantly to blame.

@@DurbanSouthAfrica-iu6dq it is you are given a recommended sentence that is what is served. Gang related killings get 25 years mandatory unless there is serious mitigation i.e the offender can prove his life was under imminent danger. All these people screaming tougher sentences don’t understand they’ve already done that and it doesn’t and couldn’t eradicate the issue of gangs or drug distribution networks. The only way is legalising and taxing the drug industry but that doesn’t benefit the corrupt politicians who eat nicely from this industry.

first of all, a kid joins a gang to belong to a family that he hasn't got at home...
no parenting, & or single parenting.
secondly, kids being raised by the internet; social media, tiktok, not the parents...
& thirdly, a police force more interested in taking number plates if you are a fraction over the speed limit going to & from work...
    & it's getting worse.

@@bbuzz16871 in 4 stops, leads to action taken...
Do more and you'll catch more...
Folk need to lose their annoyance if stopped or continue to live at greater risk...
We reckoned on 50/50 back in the 80s and on random car stops, we averaged 70% that allowed action to be taken... But we patrolled areas that we knew, intimately.
Although, "advice" was often given instead of action because not all coppers are bustards all of the time...😂
Checking the public is really a waste of time unless there's a genuine reason to do it... A bit like breathalysers around christmas time... Yes you'll catch more... but doing it when there's no actual visible or other signal that you need to is just silly...
But it looks proactive... And in that period, I'll bet that averages requiring arrest for drunk driving actually drop, in some police force areas...

I'm sick and tired of hearing channels like this, TV talk shows, polititians including the government speak about gangs especially East London gangs.
This is because for many years I've seen ex-gang members explain all the work they are doing on the streets, helping gang members go on the straight and narrow but not one of these groups are ever approached or offered funding to support them to continue doing this. Most of these groups do excellent work with the youth of today, but can't afford to rent space, or hire people to help them, so I see it like hypocrisy when the government etc complains about gun crime, stabbings, gang violence but do nothing to help stop it.
Put your money where your mouth is, and fund those guys on the streets that spend their free time canvassing the streets at night talking to gangs trying to get them to stop the violence.

This is my area, I was born in the old Hackney Hospital in 73, I have been here ever since. I have seen many changes, the rubbish of the seventies, the yuppies and poll tax and Broadwater Farm Riots in the eighties, the nineties we were not too much that made me concerned but then from the year 2000 was then gang turf wars started and has only gotten worse now 20 + years and I think I made an effort to take note of what was happening because of my. Children growing up. When the beginning the turf wars started it was mainly all threats and for me personally it didn’t scare me as I was 6ft tall and a very very large build so yes a gun would be a problem a knife was not so much but grew up with fights we used fists, still not good but by there would not have stray bullets. The thing that worry me is since 2012 I have become disabled and I feel very vulnerable as my big build has Completely changed which and now I could not be able to fight my way of a paper bag, I know of many other people feel the same and fear going out. The problem is the gang members numbers compared to police officers numbers, the police will not be able to get it back on track as it’s grown out of control.

If we had a judicial system worth its salt, these violent criminals would never come out of prison - 75 years, no parole, would by my standard sentence, if I was Home Secretary.

The Independent - Eight men shot dead in two years. Welcome to Britain's Murder Mile
Street violence grabbed headlines last week, but in one place it never goes away
      Robert Mendick Andrew Johnson
      Sunday 06 January 2002
With its pound shops and kebab houses, its estate agents and pubs, Upper and Lower Clapton Road in east London could be any other busy street in any other city in the UK. Except that in the past two years, eight men have been reported shot dead either in the street or in the leafy avenues running off it. The sound of gunfire and the accompanying whine of an ambulance or police car is never far away.
Welcome to the Murder Mile - a stretch of tarmac that lays claim to the unwanted, unlovely title of Britain's deadliest road. Nerves are beginning to fray, even among aspiring locals living in well-secured £350,000 houses close by.

Portugal is the same, crime is dropping as d's are cheaper/better via despenceries. Take the criminal profit out of it and the crims will find s.thing else to earn off.
Combine this with really good D education starting at 5 in schools, then having free dependency clinics and rehab centres - it's working.
Crime is down, addiction is reducing and the financial impact of not using the courts or prisons is really helping the country.
