    I originally subscribed to this channel because of the economic talks that have to do with Magic The Gathering but not really having any care for Magic The Gathering itself. Over the course of time that has changed and have grown an interest in the game, just recently I attended my first Friday night MTG event at my local gaming store. Now I find myself playing MTG more than hearthstone, damn you Rudy.

    I'm a commercial carpenter, but i was also a drywall guy for a commercial company for 7 years, and i can tell you that screwing into the metal studs works just as well as wood studs provided you use a decent amount of screws. 12 foot 5/8 drywall ceilings are screwed into metal, we also screw top cabinets to them and i would have more faith in that than using zip it drywall anchors, drywall can crumble, thos studs aren't going anywhere. Just get yourself some 2 inch(or whatever length you need) self tapping drywall screws and be careful not to screw them in too much so they don't strip.

    • @Kurufinwe_Fayanaro
      @Kurufinwe_Fayanaro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Rudy please don't use only drywall anchors, listen to this guy

    • @vatothabeast
      @vatothabeast 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much the only time i would use drywall anchors or even metal toggle bolts would be for something that would carry minimal weight, coat racks, small shelves, a towel rack etc. Let me put it to you this way, if i did what you plan to do at my work, and my boss found out, worst case scenario, i get fired. Best case scenario, I'd be forever known by my co workers as the dumbass who used zip its to mount a slat panel. I'm not calling you a dumbass, but i as a professional would be expected to know better.

    • @vatothabeast
      @vatothabeast 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bukk the Left that's a bit personal, but you make more than me by a good bit. In the drywall trade(or at least non union, I've never been union)foremen make around $30 give or take depending on their experience. Carpenters are about the same i suppose, if not marginally more. Congrats though, hope that raise works out brother

    • @vatothabeast
      @vatothabeast 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bukk the Left however i have gotten scale pay which has payed in the 30's per hour, but that was only for as long as i was on that job. Now that ive switched trades and basically became an apprentice again, scale jobs don't pay as much as my last job. But my base pay is more

    Wasn't expecting the nostalgic feeling this evoked from when I set up my store. I had to hang slatwall alone and it was pretty challenging. If you live in a town where businesses fold every week it's possible to pick up counters and displays used for very cheap from them, even free if they need to vacate completely.

    The best way to save on slat-wall stuff is probably to buy the kind that are long PVC boards that you kind of assemble from bottom to top, but those have their own issues.

  • @aba556
    @aba556 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video series! One idea did come to mind tho. Consider switching the playing tables and the location of the register/display case. This would allow you to keep an eye on people looking at product in the walkway and make you and your glass displays the first thing people see when they walk in instead of plumber crack. People are less likely to shoplift when direct eye-contact is made as soon as they walk in. Also looks like you would have more room for larger events.

    Rudy, those slad walls or w/e you called it,
    you coulda purchased something similar called Shiplap its MUCH MUCH more asceticly pleasing AND easier to do because of the method to attach to wall actually works with metal studs and they hold 3-4x as much weight along with much much cheaper

    The store is a practical joke on everyone. Kid walks in and creepy Rudy is the cashier. He'll scream at the kid to get out. Telling the kid nothing in the store is for sell, it's a private warehouse just like the sofa sketch on SNL.

    cut the damaged slatwall and you can use it for smaller fixtures and you can even build merchandise islands out of them. I used to do that when building gamestops to save them some $$

  • @petermitchell545
    @petermitchell545 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel you should rethink the drywall anchors on the slat walls. With the weight added from product, I would feel it needs more support. I am not a carpenter or professional but I have used drywall anchors and it just doesn't feel like its enough.

    Rudy. 16 inches on center for your metal framework. Measure 16 inches on center and then put 4 anchors evenly spaced down the stud per each slat wall. Way more sturdy and safe than just slamming anchors into bare drywall.
    Plus you can put a heavier load on the wall. *Giggity*

    RUDY! Make sure you ask your land lord before you use drywall anchors/ toggles! They require 1/4 inch holes. Think about that. That's probably like 6 holes per slated wall times however many you plan on putting up. Plus they can be troublesome if you drill a sloppy hole(Giggity) and the toggle doesn't sit right. I'd recommend using self tapping screws for metal studs
