hello Sir I can subscribe on your gmbn channel I am from Bangladesh first time I can make a mountain bike so if you give any four information to help me
A gold bike, really? Surprised a Merida wasn't on the list. My 4K bike has many of the same components and a full carbon frame and 4K was still a lot to me. Why would anyone pay that much with way cheaper equivalents available?
We all put in a quid, 1 million of us that is. We buy the gold shopper. Take it round Sam Pilgrims and see how long it takes him to break it in a car park. Its worth a million of anyone's money.
Rich and Martyn, glad you did this video. You have highlighted one of many, many problems with the bike industry. There is NO WAY the price of these bikes is anywhere closely related to the cost of production. This is price gouging at its worst. You would think these prices would create a great opportunity for used bike sellers like The Pros Closet. But, have you ever tried selling your bike to TPC? They make ridiculously low ball offers which border on bad faith. They then jack the sale price when they post it on the web site for sale. I understand the need to make a profit, but come on! Would love to see a video of a bike company rerpresentative talking about what it costs to make these bikes. They will NEVER do it. It is not a problem unique to the bike industry.
I just bought brand new Orbea Oiz M-pro that costs €7k on the Web, for €4200 on sale discount, that just tells you how much margin there is on those bikes 🙈
As much as I find this list meaningful to ponder, I would rather want to see the top 10 most expensive MTB FRAMES. The stock specs are interchangeable across the brands (although perhaps it is interesting to see the value of the overall build in comparison to how much discount each brand gets from its specs suppliers) so if we assume each brand gets similar specs at same discounted prices from its suppliers, then the real value of each brand lies in its frame, and to judge whether the quality and geometry of the frame justify such a high price.
Not like we have an option. The riding experience on these bikes is amazing. Sure there’s ways to save money but it’s a huge pain and you need to be extremely patient. So if you got the money you’ll just pay the price.
Not the most expensive, but I really like the look of the rear suspension setup on the Trek Supercaliber. So, in this game of I Won The Lottery, I'd buy one of those.
👍love hardtails but love the fact that a guy with Neil's skill and enthusiasm knows when to "call it" . A great lesson to the lesser skilled but just as enthusiastic riders like myself to learn from!
You should do a video seeing how cheaply you can find super expensive bikes used or new, for example I've just bought the haibike nduro 8 freeride for 3800
Watching this, I'm more and more glad I managed to build my own Mega for 3.5k last year. Wouldn't go and buy 5k+ stock bike what so ever. My family would sew me :)
Here in southern California, I see people ride these expensive bikes on nothing but tame fire roads they never use the full potential until they become second hand.
I live in SoCal as well. That’s why I bought a spur a few years ago with some upgrades over those years including carbon wheels. I just ride closer to cross country now and feel even if I take a few months off and get back to riding, my money was well spent. I probably have 7-8K into the bike right now.
Most people I know who own these kind of bikes, don’t even use them a lot. They just have a different relationship to money and don’t even look at anything below 10k. “Uff yeah spring last year I wanted to do a bit of biking” - don’t be sad that you can’t afford these bikes. They are made for a specific clientele.
Have you ever looked into that wheelset? It's a technological marvel to be honest. Single piece carbon wheelset... the rims, spokes, and hub flanges are all a single piece carbon layup. They then insert the center section of the hub into the carbon flanges and that tensions the wheel properly. I wouldn't own a set for a variety of reasons, but as far as tech goes, they're really damn neat.
An absolute waste of money. Unless you’re a world class Sponsored professional rider. Most of us can’t afford this sort of OTT bikes just for riding out with our mates they are only worth what people are willing to pay for them
Spend almost 6k building my Intense M1 in 2002 and it still looks and does the business, how many of these carbon bike will still be around after 20 years of hard use
@@Bianchiboy you seem to care as you responded twice, and my point was these overpriced carbon frames are not worth the money and wont last like aluminium bikes did
I have one of these bikes I can't believe I spent that kind of money but at the end of the day I love it.... though since the mountain biking industry is crashing around itself you'll be able to get these bikes for a fraction of what they're asking now
Scott is so expensive just becasue of that wheels and frame. .. it is best and lightest carbon frame of 3 ..not like other brands, where frame is the same also on bike for 3500€ bike and also that one piece rims+hubs+spokes carbon wheels.
Valid points that most don't recognize. That HMX Scott frame is 2-300g lighter than the standard Spark RC HMF frame. And as you pointed out, the wheels are one-piece carbon fiber...rim, spokes, and hub flanges!
S-Works Epic Evo in Sand/Red gold in the Specialized Concept Store is retailing at £12.5k. Also, I don’t reckon it would be that hard to get an Atherton bike to that sort of money either.
I tested the Scott Spark in 2022 and it is optional to get with Fight Attandent and completely Rockshox fork and shock. I am not sure but the price was about €15500
The Spark is not available with the electronic Flight Attendant yet. Only Nino is riding it as a prototype. I would guess 2025 model year maybe. All Sparks come with the mechanical twin-loc system (designed by Scott) regardless of if you get RockShox or Fox suspension bundles.
@@WRBWRXWGN I'm riding a scott for a few year's an I know the suspension system very well. It's possible that I was wrong about the model could have been an Genius but it was definitely a Tuned model with electrical suspension front and rear. Maybe a early version of the Flight Attedent or something else definitely sensor controled. In the Scott store the told me it is the flagship model at the moment in price and furnishing.
@@stefan.h.666 Possibly the Genius you saw, I suppose. I only know the Spark lineup REALLY well because I spent all of 2022 searching the entire US for an RC to buy. I had to consider many spec levels. I finally found an Team Black in early 2023. I 'settled' for the Fox suspension over the RockShox, but it performs very well and I am pleased with the bike. All in with AXS, carbon wheelset, power meter, and a host of other upgrades, I'm in to it maybe $8500. More than I ever thought I would spend on a bike. That said, it's a ripper and I have 2000 trouble free miles on it. Value is subjective.
Hey guys, I went for a new 2023 Cube 160 action team Ebike , just got it last week but the only way I went for it wast because I came into some inheritance and thought I was getting back on a bike now definitely! Even with 2k off in January sales it was still £4500 my Giant ATX 1 never even cost that back in the day and that was one the most expensive for me! Bit I've not ridden since 2004 it's just woth watching the channels over winter I was like "I miss this sooo much"! I did look around but man this Cube is so well spec'd for the Price it was hard not to go for it! The blue with the orange was abit yuk at the time but it started to grow on me more and more and when it arrived it was just incredible feeling to have one these ebikes I thought I'd never be able to afford!
Like always, the super-expensive bikes drive the technology that eventually trickles down to more affordable prices. I don't think we'll ever see those Silverton wheels being ridden by the average rider though. There's no easy way to mass manufacture those.
note for editor: seems the music volume has been increased in the clips, previously it was about the same as the talk audio, now it is noticeably louder. I liked the old way much more.
Lots of nice bikes there, i bought the E160 T4 build and the prices are absolutely eyewatering. I predict a hefty pricedrop in the future and would not buy anything from this list the next 6-8 months
In only a few years people will shake their heads in disbelief how much coin some people paid for a bicycle in the early 20‘s of this century! Just RIDICULOUS ‼️

Wow I’m just getting into mtb and didn’t realise they went that high in price lol I paid £285 on my carrera code disk and I thought that was a lot of money lol
A million pounds and mechanical brakes. That’s all you need to see to realize that last one is just a cynical way to separate wealthy fools from their money
I happen to own the 2nd most expensive bike on the list 🫣. Although I must admit, I didnt buy it in a bike shop. Bought it used in perfect condition and without those crazy wheels and drivechain, which on 2022 model was old AXS. I have also bought new t-type xx sl for Eur 2000 and some sub 1kg wheels custom built from local company. To sum up if you are insanely rich you can go and order one from store, if not you have to do the hard job of looking out for bargains online and build it yourself. In this case 9k euros instead 15k. Good to learn the price of the new tr version, not worth increase, I mean the increase in the price as you can get the drivechain cheaper. Btw before anybody replies anything about warranty - I know by own experience it is quasi non-existent for Scott bikes so worth nothing if you are going to pay for it extra 😉.
That's all there , nearly every brand has a $20,000 CAD bike now . Or at least for now , .. Uci says they have to available to the public if you want to race one , but it doesn't say anybody has to buy it .. and it's a year where in reality , I bought a budget Spark 940 , plain jane flat black , for $1000 Cad off at $4400, a set of bontrager kovee rsl wheels half price for $2000 and an XT mechanical drivetrain with a GX cassette because it was cheaper than changing the driver , and I had traded in a bike with a SID Ultimate and Traded the Pike off the brand new bike to get the SID back because it's lighter and less travel . So for $8 gran , I got the budget model because that Spark SL top of the line thing is $20 gran CAD . And i couldn't have built one that cheap any other time , but the same time that $20 gran bike is in stock at some dealers or available from the manufacturer , There were bikes and parts (or still are ) that didn't sell , and there was end of summer sales , black Friday was all month long , then cyber monday went into Christmas , then end of year sales , .. and on and on , and the base model epic evo dropped from $5000 to $4299 regular price . So back down here on Earth , They are getting a grip on reality . I also bought a Scale RC team bike with everything XT for $4450 tax included .. Actually traded alloy bikes in and lost money on paper but because of the savings on the new bikes , I broke even . I'm a shimano fan , so I don't excited about electronic latest greatest things . Because of the latest greatest new things , Shimano XT stuff and Sram GX 10-50 can be found 1/2 price this year .. That's what I'm all fired up about ...
So this is what it must be like sitting at a dentist computer screen after he snuck down the stairs clutching Bank card in one hand and MTB cleaning rag in the other end after the wife and kids have gone to bed 😂😂 Plus I can’t believe the top spec specialized levo isn’t on this list It’s £500 more than Scott spark at Number 2
@@CarnivoreDMD I have a voodoo Hoodoo HT that cost £600 27.5 and I Street ride A Alcatraz JB And a 2014 glory still rocking 26s The downside of my glory is A decent set of 26s is £500+ as it is a old school DH it’s heavy The worst thing is peddling 10-15 miles throughout the day riding spot to spot and if it’s on a 30° day it’s a death sentence thankfully The UK hardly gets any of those 😂😂
Specialized is falling over itself trying to sell me 2023 S works epic. MSRP is 13,000. They offered it to me for 7 1/2, one year maintenance free, frame protector, and tubeless set up. If you want one of these ultra bikes now is the time to do it.
Why are wheels so expensive??? Can you do a video explaining this? Is it the man hours? The R&D expensive? Carbon and aluminium is not an expensive raw material. I don’t get it?
They likely charge that because they can. The same with hubs, it don't matter if you use Tourney or DT Swiss, both are CNC machined and the 2 bearings inside a through axle hub are industrial bearings, which are less than 20 € for both even if they are SKF
The Syncros wheels on the Spark are technological wonder wheels. The rim, spokes, and hub flanges are made from a single piece carbon layup. The spokes are tensioned when they insert the hub cartriges between the two flanges. Super cool, unique design. But impractical for 99% of riders for a variety of reasons (cost, broken spoke = totaled wheel, proprietary hubs, etc).
I think half decent mtb's are becoming too expensive for the average joe which is a massive shame, before i moved over to emtb's, my last mtb was a Cannondale Trigger 1 2016 which is carbon frame, carbon wheels, carbon lefty fork, carbon handlebars, carbon brake levers, cost me £6000, which I will never ride again since owning ebikes. It will remain a classic mtb in mint condition. I think the mark up on these bikes is crazy, my current Specialized Levo cost me £5250 Dec 21, my local Specialized dealer have now reduced the over stock of my current bike to £3450 last time i checked. Clearly these manufacturers can sell these bikes alot cheaper but choose not too.
Agreed, it's wild. That said, you should go read a tech review of those Syncros wheels. Technological marvels. The rim, spokes, and hub flanges are made from a single piece carbon layup. They tension the spokes when they insert the hub guts between the two flanges. Neat from a tech perspective. Wildly impractical from every other perspective.

I just refurbished my 1992 Cannondale M800 non suspension and now it is a Generation X gravel bike😂😂😂
I was expecting a we are one arrival to be on the list
No1 reminds me of my old super burner tbh
The Giant Reign and The Orbea are so much cheaper in Australia. 15,000 AUD here for the Reign whereas 12499 quid is $24000AUD. WTF
My newest bike is a 2008 Santa Cruze BLT2…😂 can’t seem to want more. I like 26” tires too so guess I’ll have to stick with Vintage parts😂
@@CarnivoreDMD I have a voodoo Hoodoo HT that cost £600 27.5 and I Street ride A Alcatraz JB And a 2014 glory still rocking 26s
The downside of my glory is A decent set of 26s is £500+
as it is a old school DH it’s
heavy The worst thing is peddling 10-15 miles throughout the day riding spot to spot and if it’s on a 30° day it’s a death sentence thankfully The UK hardly gets any of those 😂😂
Keen to get me a Orange Phase AD3..... if they ever build any more
Specialized is falling over itself trying to sell me 2023 S works epic. MSRP is 13,000. They offered it to me for 7 1/2, one year maintenance free, frame protector, and tubeless set up. If you want one of these ultra bikes now is the time to do it.
Correct. I'm seeing some killer deals for top spec bikes, 2023 models that are sitting on shop floors.
Any chance of a proper list , hope ibis dogma , please 👍 Andy.
After wathichg this video I imagined Steve Jones in wellies on that golden bike going straight into the bog. 😁
Haven't you heard? Steve has throw out his riding wellies for some proper riding shoes!
@@gmbn I haven't. Sad news.
Why are wheels so expensive??? Can you do a video explaining this? Is it the man hours? The R&D expensive? Carbon and aluminium is not an expensive raw material. I don’t get it?
I don’t know but my first guess would be supply. Not a ton of competition or large suppliers?
They likely charge that because they can. The same with hubs, it don't matter if you use Tourney or DT Swiss, both are CNC machined and the 2 bearings inside a through axle hub are industrial bearings, which are less than 20 € for both even if they are SKF
The Syncros wheels on the Spark are technological wonder wheels. The rim, spokes, and hub flanges are made from a single piece carbon layup. The spokes are tensioned when they insert the hub cartriges between the two flanges. Super cool, unique design. But impractical for 99% of riders for a variety of reasons (cost, broken spoke = totaled wheel, proprietary hubs, etc).
so basically the scott spark is the number 1 on the list.
you forgot the digit datum for the same price of the yeti
Rocky Mountain Instinct Carbon 90?
You missed the Mondrakers 🙂
yeah but I just built a bike about 2mins ago, and I have decided it has a price tag of 10 quadrillion uk sterling.
beat that.
DIGIT DATUM $11,499
btw I’d LOVE to see a feature on this bike!
4.5G for wheels? that's a good one haha
The wheels on the Scott cost more than my bike!!!
