René Herrera was my dad’s friend. They met while singing with los amigos de Jesús in Saint Patrick’s church in Laredo tx. My dad was asked to sing this song for him at his funeral by his family. Great man and I’m honored to have known him.

@Daniel Navarro Even in b/w tv, do these artists look "colored" people to you? I guess it's an American point of view, for me as South American they look white, meaning that they are direct descendants from Spaniards and thus no Native American or Afro-American ancestors.
@Dutch Van Der Linde I greed but Mexico has more dope rock groups at the time we had los apson boys Johnny laboriel Javier Batiz los baby’s y los teen tops ! Rene y Rene sound it to Mexican but Richie s valens manager change his last name for that reason ! And with la bamba latin rock was born !
I found this and was shocked, I hadn't heard this in so many years. Reminds me so much of my Mom, this and "Lo mucho que te quiero" her favorite songs from Rene and Rene. My Mom could dance too, she and my best friend's Mom went to a James Brown concert and she came home all happy and was doing the James Brown dance on one leg across the floor and she was so good at it. She did all the dances in the 60s including the boogaloo, the twist, mash potatoes, watusi, he tighten up the jerk this list is endless. She did a mean ChaCha too which she'd do to this song as we'd all sing along. I can see her smile and dancing. We had nothing and as kids we didn't even realize it, she had 7 of us and my Dad had taken off to make a new family so she did it alone. I dedicate this song to her, I miss our talks so I still talk but now I can get a word in edgewise cause she's not here to interrupt me. Thank you for posting.
Awesome, what a great tribute to your mom. I bet she is a fantastic woman. Reminds me of mine, seems like the same story-line. Now at 89 she still singing strong. Jokingly says she would have been a star if she hadn't met my father (RIP), they were split up after 25 years and 16 children. Dad left with 12 kids still at home. My mother is an amazing woman. Music was good to all of us. I still sing these songs and like my mama, I LOVE to sing. Had I not met my wife, I would have been a star, lol......

My moms uncle just showed me this video and this is my 3rd cousin. So crazy to see this because I love to sing and wondered where I got it from. I love music like this and I will be playing it forever now.

RENE & RENE, MY CHICANO BROTHERS FROM LAREDO TEXAS. I AM SO PROUD OF THESE GUYS. IN THE 50'S RAUL ORNELAS, COUSIN TO RENE, WE HAD A VOCAL TRIO AT MILLER HIGH IN CORPUS CHRISTI. AND I HAVE TO SAY, THE ORNELAS ARE A VERY TALENTED MUSICAL FAMILY.
I wouldn't say they are spanglish but absolutely bilingual, equal respect for English and Spanish Languages. They are sweet not aggressive, respectful, and their Spanish is impeccable so is their English. That's how educated people in our Hispanic countries react. Wish they would have come to South America then, they would have been a huge success
I was just starting fourth grade when this was released. I remember listening to it over and over on KILT-AM radio out of Houston. This was a pretty big hit.

This song was never played in NYC in 1964. I only remember hearing it many years later on WOR-FM, by DJ Bill Brown. What a fantastic song! It should have been a bigger hit.
Hermosa, feliz.
Lovely song from my childhood, so soft and romantic ....
Nice and truly bilingual duo they sing in Spanish with absolutely no accent and sing in English too. This song brings to me so many remembrances of those times 54 years ago. Very good to hear again.
Wow!!! I am glad I was able to remember songs I heard on the shortwave radio and the Mexican radio stations who would have million watts to power their radios and not be restricted by the FCC of the U.S.A. Definitely they were the pioneers of the bilingual format in which Spanish/English were used interchangeably many years before Freddy Fender, Santana, Malo and many others used it, In their LP's they have countless bilingual songs that are awesome, such as Las Cosas, Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero, Put Me In Jail, Baby Doll, etc. etc.

According to Wikipedia :René y René was a Latin pop duo from Laredo, Texas. Composed of René Ornelas (born August 26, 1936) and René Herrera (born October 2, 1935; died December 20, 2005), the group scored two hit singles in the U.S. in the 1960s. 1964's "Angelito" ("Little Angel") peaked at #43 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart,[1] and 1969's "Lo Mucho que Te Quiero (The More I Love You)" hit #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart,[1] #14 on the Hot 100 chart,[2] and #15 in Canada.[3] René y René were among the first Chicano artists to appear on American Bandstand (August 8, 1964). They were inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in 2001.[4] René Ornelas was still performing (under the name "René René") as of 2010.

Definitely they were the pioneers of the bilingual format in which Spanish/English were used interchangeably many years before Freddy Fender, Santana, Malo and many others used it, In their LP's they have countless bilingual songs that are awesome, such as Las Cosas, Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero, Put Me In Jail, Baby Doll, etc. etc.
