I have spent a couple hours listening to Lupe's first two albums and his mixtapes...I don't think I am capable of stringing together the words to accurately describe how much I appreciate Lupe's music. He is amazing.
I see some of you are getting it wrong.. This is dedicated to his mother, not some random chick, his mom and his grandmother. The first verse talks about how she was his supporter, and she kept him on his path. The second verse talks about how she was the best mother she could be to him, and how she gave him what she could. How she always saved him, when he was in a situation, and how she taught him.The third verse talks about her being his spiritual role model. How she was a religious woman.
that third verse almost made me shed tear. all i could say was wow after hearing it. it was so beautifully written and delivered and extremely deep. "Hommie they might not be looking good to you but they aint looking good for you they lookin good for dude, who's the most good lookin especially when they look into so me and you hommie they looking through..." :o
i wouldnt say elzhi is underrated he is just slept on...whoever hears him spit knows instantly that hes one of the greats...no one ever says hes not all that while a lot of people only know lupe for his mainstream stuff and dont give him credit for songs like this
I wish people could understand what Lupe really spits. He would be so much more popular if the less intelligent side of society didn't need everything dumbed down. ;)
Interesting how his albums (excluding Lasers) were on my best list then his mixtapes just steamroll his albums. His albums are awesome but his mixtapes...damn
the song is dedicated to females. 2nd verse; his mom. 3rd verse; muslim women. I think the first verse is a reference to cocaine(slang=girl). If not, someone enlighten me. "bought for what I couldn't afford, but couldn't afford to leave the scene 'cause this mission here we couldn't abort yup, she helped me bring FNF up...." I think I'm right, but if not prove me wrong 'cause I would luv 2 truly know where he was going in that 1st verse.
I wouldn't expect the fabled CRS album to come out after LUPend by Lupe and 808's and Heartbreak by Kanye, maybe Neptunes are producing some of their songs for their albums. They were talking about the members are focusing on their own stuff from now.
What does he say in the beginning after " Though, sinner I be, winner I be to her/She ain't God she don't judge/ When it was hard she ain't budge/............" Still can't get it after all this time
@@aryaa9900 not too much. He was in my city for a concert and had a meet n greet. Asked him about that and tried to pay him for all the albums I illegally downloaded 🤪
@DeliciousMartini89 Nailed it bro, totally a GREAT song.. The third verse actually put it in perspective for me on why they cover their faces. And now I have a new out look towards the Muslim women.
one of lupe's simpler rhymes. He is talking bout they are not looking good for people they are looking good for God, who is the most good looking ha. love lupe. Other ppl they just looking through.
Imagine there were two painting artists that both worked very hard, one of them could of even worked harder. Painter A and Painter B. Painter A worked very hard and tried his hardest to get his message across in his paintings, and his messages did get across.. but it was easy to understand what his message was. Now Painter B worked very hard also and also had a message in his painting, but to figure out his message you would have to do alot of thinking. B's painting would be considered better.
She helpd me bring F and F up (FNF UP) therefore she's forever the 's' in the 'us'. That is a beautiful fucking line! all lyrical shit aside. really ill.
Lupe's complexity is about reality. A reality that is bigger than what neighborhood your from. Check out "Gotta Eat" by Lupe, and if you think that song is about a drug dealer then you didn't get the whole message.
agreed, however times have changed and likewise the audience for rappers of pac and lupe's caliber has dwindled. pac songs was in heavy rotation in his time and at his prime. now to hear that kind of talent u hav to look underground. this is a new generation more easily influenced by nursery rhyme mainstream BullShit. am i right?
lup end is is last album and mayb the same cud b said 4 kanye im nt sure bout tht yet. but jus shows how much bullshit goes on in music most ppl dnt understand and need to listen mor into wt these ppl r sayin
@Stalaheid in l.a.s.e.r.s.' defense lupe him self said he hates it. had to make many sacrifices just to get it approved to be distributed, then we still had to protest for them to put it out there. but if you say words i never said ain't wanna of the realist songs you ever heard your crazy.
the REASON he is not as popular is because the media don't wanna to promote the kinda shit he talks about in his music... they'd rather play Katy perry Lady gaga and them other shit artist... people don't understand his lyrics so the media tells him to DUMB IT but he chooses not too cause hed rather make real meaningful music then get paid more... this is why LUPE IS THE BEST RAPPER IN THE GAME
Rappers are called Hip-Hop artists. Now your right about Pac getting his message across, but I'm just talking about -how- he got his message across. When it comes to work ethic and time spent, I'll give you this, Pac probably work as hard or harder than Lupe. But Lupe gets his message across in a deeper way than Pac did. I'm about to now get more into it below.
@rocklobstarr333 if you think lupe's underrated, you should check eLZhi... and az is way more underrated than what lupe could ever be, just sayin' though. lupe sometimes doesn't get any attention cause today's mainstream music industry is fucked up, he's a great artist and one of my favorite mc's
actually lupe is muslim, and so he took the writing that was originally used to right the quran (im not quite sure what that is cause im not muslim but yea...)
I dont count the beatles or abba bc they are groups. Im merely talking about solo artists. And i dont count elvis presley bc he has sold more records dead than alive.
well no, Michael Jackson accumulated more fans because of his dancing more than his songs. and then the combination is what turned him into a superstar. Lupe would definitely be the top selling rapper of all time though.
lupe is NOT underrated. Lupe IS, although, somewhat unkown. Everyone who listens to Lu knows exactly how incredibly lyrical he is (those who actually bother to listen to lyrics, that is). It's just that, for whatever reason, he doesn't atrract as much attention as rappers like Wayne or Gucci. Its a sad thing really...
Lupe wasn't inspired by Tupac at all. Don't switch things up, he was inspired by Nas. To be more precise he was inspired by Nas' "It Was Written" Album... That's what got him to start taking rap seriously (Even if you continue to argue that he was inspired by Tupac, that doesn't prove that Tupac is better... This is only if you continue to believe that).

The man who can literally stand for 2 whole minutes on stage...doing nothing...and have people not get tired of screaming their lungs off?lol.Lupe's the best rapper out right now, but i wouldnt put him with mj, thats for sure. i dont think he even does his own beats, mj made his music too
Eminem has sold 75 million records, MJ has sold 750 million and an additional 100 million the last months since his death. even Prince has sold roughly 250 million himself. to ShadyFan94 - there's a lot of hypocrites out there that are all MJ fanatics since he died but fans like myself and thevoyce123 have been fans since the at least the Thriller days if not before then. not everyone's a hypocrite...get it straight....btw you got a lot of hate in you, hope you can clear that from yourself.

Why? It's simple... Most average hip-hop listeners don't understand true art. Lupe is one rapper that I wish his record sales would match his talent. As Jay-Z said this man is a genius.
8 years on and I still think that the third verse is the best verse ever written in any genre of music.
