"It feeds the rich while it buries the poor" These are some of the most powerful lyrics in music. There are many like it, especially back during the Vietnam war. Great reaction.

They were even more powerful when black sabbath sang them in the late 60s

@Damien.Young46 Black Sabbath sang War Pigs, not Civil War. Axl wrote the lyrics to civil war. Although War Pigs was a powerful song as well, Civil War hits a little harder to me. There were so many great War protest songs back during the Vietnam War it was crazy, but the Civil War lyrics hit pretty hard for me, and I was only 6 when Black Sabbath released War Pigs and I wasn't listening to them at that age. The history of the song is pretty interesting, though.

@Damien.Young46 it all hits hard, though. War mongers suck.

Great reaction! Yeah, Guns hit hard when they came on the scene. Appetite for Destruction was 🔥 as is the rest of their albums. I waited in line for the release of The Use Your Illusion albums which were released at midnight. Civil War was on Illusion II🤙

Speaking of "Civil Wars". Check out the group (now disbanded) "The Civil Wars". Any song. Okay, "Barton Hollow" is a good one to start with, but they're all good.

Don't need to do it for TH-cam, but listen to "Don't Damn Me". The lyrics AND the guitar is next level.

people like to lump GnR in with the metal and hair bands of the 80s. They were so much more. they could actually write really good songs that stay with you far longer than so many lauded bands they were in the same category with. no no no. there's a reason they are still listened to while the others are footnotes.

Agreed. I’m 49, and I find their music, lyrics, and Axl’s voice timeless. Its still great to listen to.

Message as relevant in 1993 as today. How little changes when unelected war profiteers have their hands on the levers of political power. Massive song.

They could have been as good as zeppelin if they could of stayed off the smack and stopped the fighting within the band!

A waste of such a great band. If they stayed together they could have been one of the great rock bands instead of a band that had a great moment. Pity.

Don't speak too soon, they may reunite. Time will tell. If they do, I will see them for sure.

They're already in that category imo.
Produced the greatest selling debut album oat, along with some of the most iconic/recognisable rock records ever. Even now I see their merch worn just as much or probably more than most other legendary bands. It's a real shame they couldn't get over whatever beef they had with eachother.

@@biggamer243 I'm a fan and they are still massive but to be in the same league as the Led Zeppelin's and Rolling Stones of this world they needed more quality albums. One brilliant one is not enough in my view. Sounds harsh but to be up there with the goats is a high bar.

    • @biggamer243

@barry o'sullivan if you're a rock diehard then absolutely. Appetite and UYI 1+2 aren't enough I 100% agree. But in terms of mainstream media and notoriety I'd argue that gnr have more Well known records than a led zeppelin. Welcome to the jungle, sweet child 0 mine, paradise city, November rain. I hear these everywhere. Its not too often ill go and hear a zeppelin song just playing. But yh despite personal choice they aren't near a rolling stones or a pink Floyd
