Go to car parts store, buy gasket sealant, fill hole outside of tire hole. Then use patch on inside tire. SLIME patches work great inside of tire. I carry both and paid off.
Gasket sealant. Got it. Never thought of that. I think I over killed that fix and I still left the gap open so that would work great. I'll be sure have some on me next time. Thank you Tom and thanks for watching
Tires, Tires, Tires - I was an expert fixing tires when I was 20 and broke - Now in my late 60s I budget for extra tubes and buy only the best tires at shedding thorns, glass and other road hazards. Now I mostly ride tubeless and always with a spare complete tire and more sealant to fix and go. I just watched another video of a guy on California coast with five flats in one day - yours scares me because a full blow at high speed beside a guard rail or fast cars can be fatal. Be safe.
I had a new tire waiting for me on that occasion but a few days away. The patch worked but I was worried as you know. I use a Schawlbe Marathon Mondial DD and even though I had about 12 flats last year, this year I've only had one in 3,500 miles so far. I actually have only inflated my tires three times until last week when my rim cracked at almost 10,000 touring miles. I had a new rim, Astral Radiant, sent to me here in Denver and now good to go. Starting the climb west tomorrow. I always have a spare tube but not sure I'll be doing tubeless. Seems functional when in a race or in a hurry which Im hardly ever on. Thanks for reaching out and checking out my channel. Its a work in progress and Im enjoying every angle of it.
Chaotic is accurate! Billings is the #1 housing market in the nation right now and people are moving here left and right! It's becoming a little too crazy around here for my liking. Haha and yes, Red Lodge is a super cool little mountain town. Great in the summer and lots of people go to ski in the winter.
Thanks Tony. I was out of fuel. The part I missed sharing in the episode is that the whole ride was a light incline the whole way to Red Lodge. Mac at The Yodeler told me the Harley guys complain about it every time because they use up a lot of fuel getting there from Billings.
His name was Columbo. I was a bit freaked out by seeing someone stopping me on the freeway but right away saw he was well meaning. Very cool road angel.
What a cool comment. Thank you so much. I love cycling this way is all. Working at it to try share with you all what Im going thru. I think Im progressing in my story sharing. Let me know
This popped up on my feed. Been doing a deep dive watching your amazing journey. Wow, the scenery is absolutely beautiful. You have done such an incredible job of documenting this adventure. Everything about it is truly a pleasure to watch. Thank you for your time and efforts in sharing your experience with us all. I definitely look forward to viewing the rest of your time on the road and, subsequent, tours in the future. I hope this message finds you well and good. All the Best, Rob
Thank you Rob. Thank you for your kind words and for watching. All this has been new to me and has been an unbelievable journey from building my bike, riding across this amazing country, and then learning what I have so far about creating as thorough a documentary, of what it entails to tour across the USA, as possible.
@@FlyscoutRyder someday I’ll be doing some extreme exercises like this. Pretty cool that you had the vision to film and narrate your cycling in addition to do the cycling. Really happy to see you smiling so big
Hey ! Another awesome clip, Kudos for those last 13 miles !!!! Laughing at your tyre issues, I'm going to write a paper on bike tyre puncture/slow/flat/is it/isn't it/ will it/ won't it psychology !!! My over-riding memory of cycling round Australia is punctures from Spinefax grass spines (pre Kevlar days)!! Loving your views of the mid West, looking forward to next Mondays episode - like a kid waiting for my weekly comic coming through the door!!! Stay safe, take care A.
What a comment. You are awesome to share. Thank you so much. Spinefax spines, what? I want non of them. Its so true what you say about the psychological effect of flats. The doubts get in your head and won't go away. Ahrrrrr!!!
Yeah, I90 is all good for cycling and its insanely beautiful. Other freeways are not and I've been put in the back of a state trooper car before and pulled over here and there, so research before you go riding into any freeway, or not. Spare tire is more weight to carry and I like to go light as possible. My tire is really good, Mondial DD, so even though Im taking a chance its worth the effort. Thank you for watching.
What tires do are you running? Have you tried the Tuffy Liners, I've been using them for a few years and they work great, through the Goat Head Thorns will still work their way thru.
I use Schwalbe Marathon Mondial DD with tubes. I learned my lesson in Arizona this last tour with the goat head thorns. I had daily sessions fixing punctures. Then I met Ed at the SpoksMann Bike Shop in Kingman, AZ. He had me take the valve off of my tubes and fill them with sealant. From then on I never had any issues and my tire pressure stayed true for the rest of my tour.
By this time I had about 8. The whole trip totaled no more than 12. My Mondial DD tires are legit. I truly don't mind the patching as they allow me to take a forced break and I like the routine after learning it. Thanks for watching. Well, sometimes they are not nice especially when multiples in a row in one day when Im pushing too many patches into one tube.
@@FlyscoutRyder I used to got flats all the time but since I installed flat resistance tires, and having also a liner inside, I haven't got any flats last 1500 miles, it really helps.
How much was the night at the KOA campground? I usually try to find campgrounds that have a Hiker & Biker campsite as they are cheap and that's all I need.
The Billings' KOA is the first KOA ever and this one was especially pricey at around $60/night. Most KOAs are that expensive but they do have nice bathrooms. I prefer to find the community centers that let you camp for $5 or $10. Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa have plenty of inexpensive camping options if not free.
@@FlyscoutRyder If a campsite is more than $10 I ask other campers if I can pitch my little tent on or between their sites. That is free since you are their guest then. If that is not possible, I move on. $60 no matter if you come with a huge motorhome and leave a ton of garbage or just on a bicycle with a tiny tent - that is ridiculous.
Hi Dan. I use the buff to cover from the sun, to keep the wind noice down, to stay warmer when cold, and to keep bugs from hitting my face and from going in my mouth. It's a habit of mine since I was young and it feels weird not to use it.
Thanks man. Appreciate. Yes my insta is same as my TH-cam FLYSCOUT RYDER. Some good clips of what to come in coming episodes if you look beyond the episodes plugs.
True. It is the worst part of riding in them when busy. This I-90 to the west was actually nice without too much traffic except when in congested areas.
Yeah, better give yourself time to rest once in a while. KOA? Pricey but that's bear country, better safe than sorry. I prefer to wild camp when possible.
I love to stealth camp but as long as its not trespassing private property and that's very difficult to do in this country. Even National and State Parks prohibit camping off designated sites which is a total bummer. If I break a law it has to be one that won't keep me out of doing the riding
@@FlyscoutRyder you're right. Better not get in troubles. I heard that out west is easier to do it because there's more public lands (blm, the righteous one not the blm that burn cities).
But bikes are not allowed on interstate highways. In the eastern US you'll find yourself sitting in the back of a police cruiser riding on interstate highways
Yeap, I've been in the back of a state trooper before and pulled over other times. Interstates in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington and Missouri are cool with cyclists riding them. I try not use them but at times it makes sense and they are very scenic and entertaining except for the road noice. Thanks for watching and commenting.
a little message; Adcveraries of God are the lives who make an effort to LEAD souls away from Jesus Christ and they do not get along with those who are obedient and follow Jesus.

Another one beautiful seen and spectacular sound of the water , Montana is a nice state. See the next one episode next Sunday. 😘
Next Sunday is good
The view at the camp ground is fantastic. The sound of running water to fall to sleep to must have been something really terrific.

What’s the thingie called that mounts on your top tube and locks the steering???
