  • Greetings, art and culture adventurers! Welcome to a new installment of ARTECONTODO, your window to the world of art without borders.
Today we embark on a fascinating journey to Punta del Este, following route 104 of Manantiales, to discover a hidden treasure that will open its doors in 2022: the Atchugarry Museum of Contemporary Art, an architectural gem that redefines the concept of a museum.
As we enter MACA, we are enveloped by its design, where Uruguayan wood rises in an iconic ceiling, with eucalyptus ribs treated in France, each with its own inclination, telling a story of uniqueness and beauty. The vision of architect Carlos Ott and sculptor Pablo Atchugarry is intertwined in this space, uniting their passion for curves and nature in a dance of creativity.
But the experience doesn't end there. Join us on a walk through the immense 25-hectare sculpture park, a green canvas dotted with more than 75 sculptures by world-renowned artists, including Colombians Edgar Negret and Jorge Riveros, along with other masters of art such as Bruno Munari, Arman Fernández , and Miguel Ángel Battegazzore.
As if destiny guided us, fortune smiled upon us when we met Master Atchugarry, recently arrived from Europe, who received us with the humility of the greats. Not like certain politicians and official employees who believe they are kings without being anything at all.
He told us that in the beginning he worked with wood and especially these types of trees with their soft lines, curves and voids.
Living in Europe, at the age of 25, after experimenting with wood and other different materials, he discovered the extraordinary elegance of marble.
If you do not know how to recognize marble and other minerals, we recommend purchasing the Book: Minerals How to Identify Them and thus you will contribute to the support of this channel. We leave you the Amazon.com link below in the description of this video.
He invited us to explore his monumental work “The Cosmic Embrace,” an 8.5-meter, 30-ton sculpture that stands like a beacon of inspiration.
Atchugarry cannot spend a day away from his workshop, both in Italy and Uruguay, where he works on the entire process from choosing the marble piece, through drawing, carving and polishing. “He needs contact with the material and to be able to express himself. He works with the subject 365 days a year. He means that he somehow likes what he does. Although he doesn't know if it's so much that he likes it or if it's an inner need to express himself every day."
It was precisely in Lecco (Lombardy) in northern Italy where he began his brilliant work the Pietá in homage to the master Michelangelo.
Suddenly in a gesture of generosity, he offered us a window into his creative process, a dance of precision and patience that gives life to the stone.
See some of his works that we were able to see in the museum. I believe that his first works with wood and especially those trunks with such monumental and sinuous folds, in one way or another, continue to come to him from his unconscious every time he creates a new sculpture. I invite you to contemplate every detail.
With a sigh of nostalgia, we left the museum behind to continue our odyssey to Punta del Este. There, “The Hand” by Mario Irarrázabal was waiting for us, emerging from the sand as a symbol of life. And how can we forget the Marijuana Museum, a reminder of the Uruguayan avant-garde in the legalization of this plant.
Our last stop was Casapueblo, the habitable sculpture by Carlos Paez Vilaró, which welcomes us as a museum and hotel, offering an embrace of art and hospitality.
This is how we close this chapter of ARTECONTODO, but the stories and inspiration we have harvested will endure. Art is a journey, and each journey shapes us as artists of our existence.
