  • Aaron Barcheck founded Mosaic Cycles in 2009, and the small company in Boulder, Coloardo now builds custom (and a few stock) titanium road, gravel and mountain bikes for riders all over the world.
    Aaron and Mosiac brand marketing and sales manager Mark Currie give us a tour of their production facility that includes Spectrum Paint and Powder Works.

    One of the best titanium build video’s on the web. Nice work Ben, thanks for bringing it to us. …they look like salt of the earth folks too. I would love a Mosaic! ...maybe one day.

    Nice. Good to see you covering some of the local Colorado brands. And Mosaic is definitely restoring the luster of titanium bikes that have taken a back seat in recent years to carbon.

    Thanks Ben, those frames are truly a thing if beauty. It's great to see the passion and attention to detail, I don't need another bike atm but you almost sold me on one of these 😁. Maybe a future build 👍
    Great content, cheers 🍻

    Thanks Ben and Mosaic. I watch these hand made manufacturing walk through videos and immediately want to have one built. How do you fit a once in a lifetime bike into an n+1 mindset? 😆

    The machinist in me died when I saw a hole saw on a mill 😂 but if it works it works

    I love my Moots bike but they should learn from Mosaic and start offering paint in house!

    Proprietary bend and squish, very funny.

    Something I have always wondered. At about 6:07, the tubing miter is wobbling. Every frame maker has the same wobbly cutter -- just watch everyone else's videos, too. It's not an optical illusion. Why do frame makers put up with this plumbing-caliber tool?

    • @AndrewDemack
      @AndrewDemack ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The hole saw does have some run out (a.k.a ‘wobble’), but cos its held by a collet chuck in a very rigid mill, its still within a level of precision that works for making bike frames. Also, a hole saw in a mill is more precise and repeatable (and much less physical effort) than cutting mitres by hand with a hacksaw (which is how it was done old-school). One alternative is using an abrasive tube notcher for this mitreing process, but that seems relatively uncommon.

      No, not just you. A bit weird, like they wasn´t really up to speed that Ben was coming to visit them

      I thought the awkwardness came from the dude explaining technical aspects assuming Ben was up to speed on common machinist processes

    Why is it that titanium bikes are only made by boutique handmade frame makers.

    Pretty disappointed that they're using that very out of center hole cutter

    Left football and basketball because of all the social messaging, tuned in and tuned out after reading the owner's shirt, can't we just do fun stuff without all the crap tearing us apart?
