I love turning Ash. Here in the US, many of our Ash stands have been decimated by the Emeral Ash Borror. Such a tragedy. We still have two healthy Ash trees in our yard. The Ash that grows around here is called Green Ash. The wood is bit darker than what you are working with, but has the same straight parallel grain when quarter sawn. I also love ash crotch wood. Your instruction and demonstration on platter turning was very informative and helpful, thanks.

Hi Ronald. (I’ve made purchases from your shop. Nice to put a face to a name.) Nice to see the two different techniques. That center pin is a clever addition to a vacuum chuck. When I was taking a course in Maine last year, we a sort of guide stick to help center platters, but there was no real control - only patience and a steady hand.
And Thanks for the tip on reversing direction for that climb cut. Clever.
    Cheers from Paris.

Yet another inspirational vid and yet more questions. Read all the comments to see if the answer is there but no not this time. On your push cut you change direction on your lathe but if someone's lathe only goes one way does that mean the Turner needs to change sides to achieve a push cut or would you recommend not doing this as it could stop access to the stop button. PS love how you explain how to do if you don't have all the new or latest gizmos.
