      Saying all Infjs do this or that is just factually inaccurate. Everyone of every type is their own person and nobody of any type is a carbon copy of anyone else with the same type. We don't have to constantly agree with every stereotype. It has the same energy as saying all white people love mayo.

      Yeah, all those videos titled something like "signs you're the very rare INFJ personality type, only like 1% of the population!" My INFJ sister makes fun of those videos and I, an INFP btw, agree bc they're always just generic things that kind people want to believe are true about themselves, so you get millions of views by people who are almost certainly not actual INFJ's eating it right up and commenting things like "oh I always knew this was me, I'm like so empathetic!" I love your example of how much stronger the tertiary function is when compared to the inferior one (as shown in the ESTP-ISTP example)
    Many people would think that having the first letter be different would simply make them introverted/extroverted versions of the other type.

    • @emilys3638
      @emilys3638 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      This!!! Such a crucial nuance. The tertiary function comes into play a LOT more than people realize, and in my opinion it's one of the biggest factors in mistyping someone, especially if the person typing them is simply using the 4-letter title rather than the actual functions. For example, an ISFJ with well-developed Ti can EASILY mistype as an ISTJ, and vice versa for an ISTJ with well-developed Fi. It's just the third function coming out strong in their mannerisms, but it doesn't mean they are "a little bit of both types", it just means they've worked hard on personal development, a great sign of success!
      Similarly, but more concerning, is a person who mistypes in a way that reveals a strongly-present 4th function. This is a sign that the person has been under a great amount of stress, either temporarily or lifelong. For example, an ISFP mistyping as an ISTP is worrisome because it means they've gotten into the habit of relying too heavily on their 4th function, and it's overshadowing the use of their ideal top functions. Kind of like forcing a left-handed person to use their right hand. Eventually they'll adapt, but it isn't ideal for them, and it will never be as healthy and fluid as simply using their naturally-dominant hand.

      Question: You know "Objective Personality", the personality typing of 512 types? They put every MBTI type into 32 subtypes. So, for example, INFJ are put into a spectrum of 32 between Ni-Ti and Ni-Fe _(though part of it is how "masculine" or "feminine" they are, which's a little controversial concept)_ regarding which is they strongest 2nd function.
      My question to you is, since you say that many people's tertiary function is so strong that they get mistyped in MBTI - do you think that the "Objective Personality" folk are on to something when they for example split each MBTI type into 2 regarding which function they call it's 2nd strongest?
      Hope this made sense..

    • @emilys3638
      @emilys3638 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@edmis90 Oh interesting! I have not looked into that theory, so I cannot speak definitively on it, but it sounds like they could be on to something. Perhaps it's a complex way of trying to explain the concept I was describing? Although with that many subtypes, I'll bet there's a vast amount of additional nuance and variation covered by their idea. I'm honestly not sure I could grasp it if I tried, but I have definitely benefitted from learning about the ways we interact with our entire 8-function lineup. Understanding my natural abhorrence to Ti as an ISFP has really helped me understand the triggering nature of my relationship with my mom on occasion, since she is an ISTP! Recognizing that it's not intentional insensitivity towards me on her part, but rather just her natural top function to use (and my naturally most-avoided function) has REALLY helped me to objectify and feel less hurt by her sharp Ti zingers that are actually meant to help, and it's also helped her understand better why I'm "so oversensitive" sometimes! And on the flipside, we bond beautiful over our shared Se-Ni core functions! We love to do projects together, and go out and about kayaking and such.

    • @artixi3291
      @artixi3291 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Firmly agreed. I've always found the "child function" to be a misleading title since if anything the child, it's the 4th one. If anything, I've found many are more in tune to their 3rd function than their axillary or even the dominant function simply because there is more thought process behind it. The first two functions are often so natural to the user that they may not even be aware they are using them.

    Interestingly, as an INTP, I often relate to the ESFJs and ISFJs in your videos. I may be introverted compared to wider society, but compared to my friends… I take on the role of networker, meetup-planner, maintainer of friendship, because someone has to. And it bloody hurts being ghosted by people you’ve formed deep connections with, all because they use their introversion as an excuse. Social circles with excess INxx types never survive because nobody cares enough to maintain it. Makes me appreciate the ESxx and ISxx types a lot more tbh. They really are maintainers.

      @kyurei4478 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@concerninglife Ah, I see what you mean. That's true but in the same way I see it as a stereotype for the type. I think the problem is between the fact that there is some basis of truth to it caused by the struggle to be understood and the actual unseen depth + the fact some INFJs really take it to an extreme as you pointed out, AND the fact that some other people genuinly don't understand them and undermine this difficulty to be understood, which creates a big confusion on is there an exaggeration or not. That would lead to reinforcing the stereotype of being unique for the INFJs who genuinly are misunderstood and would make them appear even more cliché. Some sort of vicious cycle that could create this obsession over their uniqueness. To be fair, the whole MBTI marketing around INFJs for being the rarest type really doesn't help and reinforces many stereotypes in the eyes of other people and even some INFJs themselves, such as videos which reuse the same structure Kristin parodied. That also leads to unfair hate. Now she capitalizes on this stereotype, which is funny but can sadly always participate to reinforcing stereotypes for any type to some people who keep a superficial understanding of the MBTI types (like any comic video using stereotypes in the end). At least that's my whole understanding of it.
