      When you said that there are jobs in the design department, what kind of design? Graphic design? (I'm studying graphic design and I'm really interested in moving and working in Korea, I'd say it's my dream)
      And also has it always been like this? Like since the day you moved there it's easier to find jobs in design, engineering and every other area you mentioned?
      Please I would appreciate your answer on this

    I've been trying to get a job since I finished college but it's impossible in my country. I don't know how bad it is in Korea but here, in Portugal, no one gives me a job because I don't have any experience. It's getting really frustrating and I need to help my mom with bills but literally no one gives me an opportunity.
    Thank you for making this video, by the way! Hopefully I can pursue my dreams and go to Korea to do my Master's degree.

      Have you tried getting an internship? I had the same problem in my country, New Zealand. I changed careers late in life and after studying, I went a year without being able to get a job in my chosen field. But then I got an unpaid internship with a big charity organisation and the experience from that enabled me to get my first full-time paid job.

    • @mariaantonia18
      @mariaantonia18 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Totally agree with you Catarina! (I am also Portuguese ahahah) Here and I believe in other countries too is almost impossible to find a job. You just got out of college and people are like "ohhh you don't have 5+ years of experience? You don't? Girl, bye" Like we need the experience but NOBODY gives us work to get experience ahahahha Oh god -.-' I graduated in December 2017. 2018 was almost the death of me and I am a really positive person, like REALLY optimistic. 2019 did a teacher training, and then our lovely Employment Center gave me 3 months of paid Intensive English classes which were not intensive...it was pretty basic, but hey, it was paid! And from September until now, I finally found a job that is related to my major! And I am SUPER GRATEFUL for it! Next year I am going to Korea to study the Korean Language for 1 year and I want to search for a job there but I'm not worried about that, I want to nail the TOPIK Level 6 and if I find a job there: great. If I don't? Great too, I can always keep doing what I am doing now and at the same time save money and go back to Korea and live there! Who knows what the future holds? This comment is getting way too big so, girls in this situation: we are strong! Believe and you will find a job! (Now, I am going to watch the video) ahahahahah

    Staying FIVE years in a marketing discipline for one company is impressive ! Two years is more usual I gather from friends in those positions in the UK. In software engineering however - where I am, it is longer... but you still change regularly (employer and location) ... until... marriage, children and pension considerations kick in. Uk does taxes by them taking a slice from your paycheque every month (or week). It's paid before you get the money, so you never have to worry or do any paperwork. Unless you are self employed.

    • @caricakes
      @caricakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      they do that in america too but we still need to fill out all the paperwork to make sure we've ~really~ paid the right amount hahah its so ridiculous!

      @@caricakes only really have to do any paperwork is if you think you are paying too much taxes and they send you forms to make a claim. Otherwise, nobody need to do any taxes ever in their whole life.

      Here in Korea exactly does that montly bassis too, not by me by HR and Tax team. They handle my tax plan with supporting IT system. But the end of the year, we checke and settle finally whether there is overcharged or less chared with your montly based tax-payment bcz there might be unexpected extra bonus at the end of the year and if there are added family member who you support yourselves(for example, if you are married and work only or having baby, then goverment consider them as tax deduction cases)

    • @mattingray5651
      @mattingray5651 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, similar to US, but the US will slap on extra fine, plus interest if you underpay the amount you own (your money to begin with). But if you overpay, they won't return if you fail to claim. Another word, the US tax system is the most evil thing in the world.

    While seeing your videos I’ve done a lot of growing and I’ve reached like big milestones in life since beginning to watch you until now. Like I started watching you at the beginning of my junior year in high school I wanna say, and since then I’ve graduated high school, got into my first relationship, started driving, got into college, got a job I love, etc. I believe I was 16 when I started watching you and I’m turning 20 in a couple months 🤯 At the start I was so in love with Korea and the people because back then I was having some personal issues and watching Korean shows and vlogs of people living there and what it was like and how lovely and nice the people were, it was like an escape for me. You were a big part of that. I mean years have passed since I felt like I was for sure going to move there and have this amazing life with nicer people- I’m a lot better now and have different plans haha. But you still keep that wonder alive for me and honestly I get happy whenever you upload. Because I was so interested in the culture before, videos that people upload now are kind of repetitive since it’s things I already know. But you always have something new, even if it’s simple. Like enjoying how the trees look, or having a relaxing morning. You helped me enjoy the smaller things and being extra happy when I see one pretty flower or having simple nice encounters with strangers.
    As I’ve grown, I feel like you have too. And watching you is like seeing an old friend. I can’t wait to see how life progresses for you as it progresses for myself.
    All love,
    Autumn 🧡

I’m very much a believer in doing what makes you happy, I’ve left jobs where the people were great but the job sucked and vice versa. There are always opportunities out there for people even f you have to make them yourself. Even if you don’t really know what you want to do, in the end sometime you just need to know what you don’t want and go from there. Aw Cari, my heart goes out to you. I found myself tearing up when you started crying, but it was great to see you focus on all the positives and acknowledging that it was a great experience and now you're ready to move on. Although very differently, this video struck a chord with me because I've been living in Sweden for a year now and sadly I can't adapt to the country so I'm planning on moving to the UK in the summer. It's a big change and I will probably be on my own for the first time in my life (here I have my boyfriend and his family), so I'm scared but also excited. Thank you for giving me inspiration to find my new chapter too

    I have dropped by your channel on and off. Even if I am Korean, and all the things you present is nothing new, but overall way of what you deliver at your videos is very unique and delicate. Foreigners want to live longer than they previously planned in S.K. have trouble getting their job, especially, if they want to avoid English-teaching jobs. But, anyway, you have been successful till now. Keep up the good work. I have always worried about people far from their original place suffering or being involved in unexpected, unwanted happening. Be safe and sound always.

    Fun fact: in Italy taxes are so crazy that sometimes you have to pay qualified people to do them for you (it's a very profitable job there). Like you, I quit before Christmas and went home to the US and now that I'm back from vacation, it's hitting me that I'm not having to go to an office anymore and while it's freeing (!!!) it's so odd. Very informative video. So true everything you said regarding korean culture! I have friends who are fluent in korean and one of them gets offended every now and then by koreans "still" calling her a foreigner. Like you are, a foreigner to them. But she doesn't understand that no matter how long you have lived in korea or how fluent you are in korean, you are a foreigner. It doesn't necessarily mean anything bad, you are just different. Then on the other hand, I have friends who are fluent in korean and are not offended at all when they get those "ooohhh you speak very good korean", "why did you study korean" etc. They just take them as interest and compliments.
