I was stationed there in the shipyard for a couple years. It's a weird place, you could go from a terrible hood to a really nice neighborhood in the space of three blocks. The area around the shipyard was a @^%$ hole back in 88, hookers openly working Washington street day and night, street crime out the wazoo, etc.
I used to live in Newport News, VA in the mid to late 90s...some things have definitely changed since then...including the Daily Press being relocated!
I was stationed there in the early 90s,, Was that Going down Warwick Blvd or Jefferson?? its been almost 30 yrs ,, i dont remember a ton, but i do remember there was a nice Little Beach front just before the James River Bridge ,, I think it was called Huntington Beach or something like that , and it had a Boat drop and a nice wooded Picnic area that had a Great View of the Evening sunset,, Used to go there with my Girlfriend at the time .
It is Huntington Beach. Back in the 80's & 90's it was a great spot for volleyball on sand courts and girls! Crab Shack is there too in front of the pier.

7:15 I remember going to Hot Dog King a lot as a kid. I took my wife there recently when I visited. Can’t wait to go back to my home town soon.

He took jefferson turned right on main, took left on warwick and followed it down to huntington to the end.
