I was always a big fan of the classic spring snare or whatever you like to call the method of using a springy branch (or even a spring or elastic) that lifts the animal off the ground, breaking it's neck quickly and humanely. The worked wonderfully for rats & rabbits.
Used to trap rabbits fox also in now banned traps from the 40 50 s were used alot in norfolk England back in the day a big farming area in uk many pheasants also

A lurcher and terrierman does the job , as nature does
