Pla pla keep posting videos i need to gain as much information as i can about Antarctica....i am doing everything in my capeballaties to get there ....everyvideo i watch just gives me more incentive and drive to pursue my destiny...i would live in an igloo if that was the only accomodation on offer ....god be with you ❤
Cannot imagine that kind of cold but wouldn't mind experiencing it. Have done extreme heat with 45C Adelaide summers lol. Have an awesome 5 months and say hello to those cute penguins
Hello ! Next year I will be studying in New Zealand and if you don't mind me asking, how did you start working on Scott station ? The outlandish experience of working in Antarctica draws a lot of us in 😎
Very helpful video. I do have a couple of Smith goggles as well. What is the most suitable VLT for the goggles? My Smith goggles can be switched if needed. I have a lens with 12% VLT, (for very sunny days), 35% VLT, and 60% VLT (low light). On your video, I think the closest match to what I have is the Green Sol-X Mirror (12% VLT).
Absolutely, Amundsen Scott is American and is at the south pole and Scott Base is New Zealand and is on Ross Island, directly south from New Zealand. It is right next to McMurdo station, check it out on Google maps
Haha good question. At Scott base we have shorter showers than normal but can shower every day. If you are in a field camp there's generally no showers and that can be a month or more
I want to ask, where can I find good affordable trapper hats? All the ones I found were either 50 bucks up, or had quality issues. I‘m not looking for something to survive the arctic winter, just a hat to keep me warm at 0 to -10 degrees
I'm just curious what type of material the jackets are made of to keep you so warm in such extreme cold. What is the name of the brand? I would like to Google the company. I enjoyed the video and looking forward to more.
It's made by earth sea sky. A new zealand company. It's just think with lots of insulation. Some are feathers and some synthetic. The jacket is huge so covers a lot of your body. And the hood blocks the wind.
Chris...😀😀 No plan in next 100 years to go anywhere -45c...actually even my walkin freezer doesnt reach that number😀. I love watching your videos, but this one bring me chill.. Antaractica is suppose to be kind of excile❄❄❄, only white color outside, ... I dont even know if the sky is blue or white too because reflection...😷🤒😤😀😀😀😀 Is enoght i am thinking how to eacape tow month of below +32 here in NY... So i am looking for 90+ destination
Haha if this gives you a chill wait until you actually see me cold! Rather than in a hotel room at 25 degrees! Haha, lots more to come when I eventually make it down there!
Hi there thanks for your comment, I have just returned to New Zealand. No I haven't been to the South Pole. I want to but it is almost impossible to get there through the New Zealand program. Easier if you are working with the Americans since they run that station
america spent millions in tax payers money and then they name the damn thing after a british guy that froze to death and some norwegian guy that ate all his sled dogs. Americans......@@WildKiwiAdventurer
This is really interesting! The possum hat looks super cosy. Would you consider adding captions so everyone can enjoy? (TH-cam autocaptions are Useless)
Bear Grylls and Chris should do a collaboration. I mean nothing is impossible.. and Chris, travel all around the globe, leave no place untouched ( and vlog it for us to see😅😅😂🤗)!! 💙
i remember the coldest day iv'e experienced in my life, that was when i went out for a cigg at 2 AM here in north sweden and it was -34 C with jeans and a hoodie, hot damn that cigg went out with 1 inhale. so cold, i cant imagine -40 or even more than that
@@WildKiwiAdventurer thank you I had to make sure I heard right. Are there any mass made ones available for retail. When I Google fur buff for men I just get results of muscular dudes wearing fur, which isn't helpful
@@dunsdonjone1537 hahaha that's funny. Yes we make them, if you would like a possum fur one I can organise that for you. Other ones I don't know, they are quite unique.
Sorry I down voted your video. The video should have started talking about the layering of your base layer. You could have talked more about extreme boots. There is very good advice on how you can adjust boots to your temperature range. Including different felt insulation and or air gap spacers. Your Opossum headgear is a direct marketing sell. Shame on you. Find me an Opossum in Antarctica. Or any other region -40.
You are welcome to your opinion about the possum but I do encourage you to do your research first about fur and techniques used in manufacturing hats and buffs. My possum fur buffs are used by Tove Sorensen in Norway who has completed the 1000km Finmarkslopet dog sled race 20 times in conditions of -20 to -40 Celsius and she said it's the warmest garment for the job that she has had in her 65 year life living in the Arctic. So please do your research before taking down my product that you clearly have no knowledge about. If you can find a warmer hat in the world please let me know. There are some that equal them, but none that are warmer.

Thanks! Last year I went from Tonga in 30 degrees to antarctica at -40 in 8 days!
I wonder how long one can last without protective gear in - 40.
@@rozzieberry everyone is different. But it wouldn't be very long!
Well I won't be trying that out anytime soon lol.
Can't wait for the next video! 👍 super cool!
Thanks! Still delayed......
Love the gear you wear. Glad possum hats a hit
Yes they are a super hit down in Antarctica haha!
Great video and very informative. Kiwis are wooses... Us Poms only need our woolies and a green Nash Parka! LOL
Haha! What station were you at??
Poms? Woolies? Nash parka? You poms speak in riddles
Could you do a closer video of the boots in this video.
The boots are Sorrel Caribou and Sorrel Glacier XT. You can buy them online easily enough and I highly recommend these boots from experience.

yes, I just applied using my experience as a tour guide in Antarctica and my experience in the mountains, and i managed to get the job!

I will consider it. What language???
what coat/jacket should I get because I'm moving to Canada and its going to be about -10 to -30°.
Thats cold! You want a really thick heavy outer jacket, if you can afford it i would recommend down. Rab have some nice ones.

A super warm one from Earth Sea Sky.
