This is so awesome. I'm glad the community came together and put this up. I was really sad when I found out the servers were taken down due to hackers. This is like a big middle finger to them lol. It may never be the same as the original servers, but I will 10000% take this over nothing. Amazing work from everyone involved, I am truly thankful for this. Had an issue where I couldn't connect but then found out its because when you get the download files for lbp2 there 2 seperate messages the bot sends you containing more update files, I didn't see the second message. After i did it fixed the problem I am very glad we have beacon, I can go back and play all my favorite levels. Better yet I gotta get my friends to set this up so we can all play together again! Thx a lot for this tutorial. Its not everyday i find a tutorial that actually teaches me what im trying to learn. You made a very detailed and understandable one. :D
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I salvaged my profile from a USB backup and got my levels uploaded to the lbpunion server. Keep in mind though, setting your SPU Xfloat to "Accurate" will soft-lock the intro level. Keep that at "Approximate".
All of this makes me incredibly happy, seeing the collective effort of this amazing community to keep the franchise alive is proof about how much people care about this wonderful game, it's a shame that Sony doesn't see that and has basically buried LBP, at least they're not doing what Nintendo does and shutting down any community effort to keep games alive...
Great instructions, everything was perfect until I completed the first chapter, as soon as I unlocked community tab I get 5fps and the little globe spinning on the bottom left. EDIT: To anyone else having this problem, just restart RPCS3 once or twice. Wicked tutorial, thank you so much.
it's all setup but it fails to connect online for some reason. it tries to when launching the game but doesn't work... then again I just remembered I have a VPN on I'll try with it off. **Turning off my VPN worked!**
Great tutorial. Have you had any issues with frame drops in multiplayer? I tried connecting to someone and it worked but it was basically a steady 15 frames for both of us.
Both of you need a powerful enough PC for LBP to play smoothly, especially multiplayer, the thing about the multiplayer is however is if the host is running the game at a low fps, then the other players are also affected, no matter how powerful their PC is.

You're welcome! The patching procedure hasn't changed in the slightest, however online multiplayer on RPCS3 has seen *massive* improvements. The issue between two different CPU brands is long gone and friends lists finally work alongside finally being able to join and invite players and *finally* being able to rejoin friends after disconnecting/getting kicked/diverging! :D
COUPLE OF ADDITIONAL INFO TO FILL YOU GUYS UP AND FAQ: BIG DISCLAIMER: PLEASE DO NOT USE ACCURATE XFLOAT, IT ACTUALLY BREAKS PHYSICS TOO. USE APPROXIMATE XFLOAT INSTEAD. -*Q1* : I get 'Mounting Database Failed' when I try to run the game! --*A* : You have most likely installed game updates in the wrong order or only installed the latest update. You need to make sure that ALL updates are installed IN THE CORRECT ORDER. In case if that happens to you, uninstall the game from RPCS3, install it again and reapply the updates. -*Q2* : I get 403 error when trying to connect to servers! --*A* : Make sure you have network settings configured properly as shown in the video, have uh_wot's Beacon Custom Server patch enabled AND the latest version of the game installed. The patch won't work with any older versions of the game! i did everything in the video but i always get failed to connect to player when I dive in and even when I try to load in a level with my friends the same thing happens to all of 3 of us
Everyone needs to keep restarting their game and try joining again. Unfortunately this is the only way to do it right now as the Friends feature in LBP game on RPCS3 currently doesn't work, and I'm aware joining is pretty inconsistent. Hopefully this should be improved over time as the RPCS3 emulator improves.
I've noticed RPCN isn't logging in when the game boots. If I hit community, then it says "logged into RPCN" but I still get error 403. I think this was working when I last tried it like 8 months ago now, so I think it may be a problem with the wifi I'm currently connected to, but I'm wondering if you have any clue why this might be happening?
Check if you have everything configured properly - Network tab in game configuration menus, latest game version, Custom Server patch enabled, etc. Also make sure you select *only* one Custom Server patch, selecting multiple causes issues with the server URL not patching correctly.
I went through the same process twice, I did all the steps correctly, updated the game, made an account, did the game configuration thing and put the right network settings, did the patch thing and put it on beacon. game works perfectly fine though, just won't let me connect to the servers, maybe it's to do with my cpu idk
so tried to update it and i got the "Filesystem mounting failed. (8001002b)" error message, so i tried to uninstall it and try again and still appears that message, how is it supposed to propperly uninstal the game files or whatever you need?
If it's a disc version, you will need to uninstall the game data of it, for this you need to go to View -> Game Categories -> Game Data. Then find the Game Data which has a matching title/name and game version and delete it by right clicking it and choosing Manage Game -> Remove PS3 Game Data, this should hopefully downgrade your game to the lowest version, so you can reinstall updates.
Do you have a controller with the motion controls, like Dualshock 3, 4 or Dualsense? Xbox 360/One controllers won't work because these don't have them.

@@leepic1103 Which game, is it LBP3? If it's LBP3 then unfortunately this game tends to corrupt Adventure Mode progress and you have to delete it and start over to fix it.
@@leepic1103Now that I think about it, it might be because of Accurate XFloat enabled (I did say in the video to set to either that or Approximate for which I apologize). Accurate XFloat actually breaks some physics in game and it should be avoided altogether. Set it to Approximate instead.

4 core/8 thread CPU - it should be fine, as long as you set these settings in the config: On CPU tab: - Xfloat Accuracy to Approximate (required for LBP physics to work properly) - SPU Loop Detection enabled - Preferred SPU threads: 6 - Framerate cap: either Auto or Off (the game locks fps at 30 anyway) On GPU tab: - Write Color Buffers enabled - ZCULL Accuracy as Relaxed On Audio tab: enable Audio Buffer and set to 150-200 ms (helps reduce audio stutter at low fps) On I/O set Keyboard Handler to Basic if you want to use keyboard in-game Also you will need to enable 'Disable MLAA patch for LBP2, LBP3' from RPCS3 main window in Manage -> Game Patches. This patch also requires CPU blit to be enabled which in custom game config is under Debug tab, which is hidden by default. To enable Debug tab you need to edit the file inside the RPCS3 folder\GuiConfigs\CurrentSettings.ini, look for show_debug_tab, change to true and then save file.

the first level in the eu version is broken, larry falls at the star of the level and he cannot accompain you through the level, also there is a door you cannot unlock because you can't place the right sticker. is this a problem that can be solved?

Set Preferred SPU Threads to 4, Set XFloat Accuracy to Approximate, Set ZCULL Accuracy to Relaxed, Enable Write Color Buffers Also make sure to check Silence All Logs from the Advanced Tab. LBP2 and LBP3 are known to generate *tons* of logs which can cause slowdowns in the game. There is also an MLAA patch which works for both LBP2/LBP3. If you don't mind certain missing graphics for extra fps boost, you can enable it by going into Manage -> Game Patches.
Yes, but then for example you get limited experience with Versus mode. Online Multiplayer lets you have separate screens, Parsec does not. Also it is strongly dependant on latency. Not to say LBP itself is not reliant on low latency but at least there is lag compensation in some capacity.

Well legally you'd need to somehow rip the game files. If you don't have a PS3, you can try getting one of the compatible blu-ray optical drives (mentioned in the video) and use the PS3 Disc Dumper tool: github.com/13xforever/ps3-disc-dumper

You can safely delete all .pkg updates after you install them. I suggest you keep them in case if you mess up installing updates. Plenty of people have done that already 😉

@@reset3365 I've put my save data that I copied over from my PS3 into the save data folder, but the levels do not show up. Would it have anything to do with the level files and profile being from the digital version?
@@LVL58Designs I don't think the game version matters, as long as you put your backup profile onto the /dev_hdd0/home/00000001/savedata, then it should show up in the game. After all, I did copy the backup file from the LBP2 EU disc version into US digital version without any issues.

The game should initially compile all the shaders as you play the game for a while for a first time and it should smooth out after all a while. It also depends on PC specs, some CPUs will take longer time to compile shaders than others. Also there is a config you can set to minimize stutter and framedrops, I've mentioned it in a previous reply so be sure to look that one up.

@@SonicXDcool You both have most likely installed either only one, latest update or all updates in wrong order. Reinstall the game and retry installing all updates *in a correct order*
Well... you compile shaders as you play the game, so the more you play the game and the more things gets compiled, then the framerate becomes more and more stable overtime, there's no way around this. As for the crashes/lags - crashes will inevitably happen due to the fact that the emulator is still in alpha and is still unstable, you can tweak the custom config of the game (say increase the Driver Wake-up Delay to 800us) to migitate that, as well as tweak other things such as increasing Preffered SPU Threads to 6, enabling CPU blit, enabling Disable MLAA Patch in RPCS3 menus to improve the performance. However the latter still largely depends on your PC specs, most notably -your CPU. The minimal CPU specs for LBP series should be a 4 core/8 thread CPU (and also with dedicated graphics).
I'm going through the RPCS3 Discord right now to install all the updates. I saw that version 1.19 is missing, will this cause any issues or is it ok like that?
I've answered the other guy in this comment section what settings you can use to improve the framerate, so you should look it up and tweak it as I proposed. Personally the most notable 3 things are: setting Preffered SPU threads to 6 (helps with the collecting bubbles lag), silencing logs (saves disk space but also can prevent the emulator from crashing because it generates tons of logs) and the Disable MLAA patch, which you can access from the RPCS3 main window's Manage -> Game Patches option (it disables a pretty expensive anti-aliasing but also removes certain graphical effects so it does give a huge fps boost if you need it).

I assume you installed the game updates in a wrong order if the game fails to launch the game. Uninstall the game and reinstall it alongside all the patches
@@SurgeonOpp I mean, not only Fortnite is a pretty low spec game, but it is also running *natively* on your PC, whereas LBP2 is running on an emulator which is a lot more CPU demanding than running the game natively. So yeah, pretty bad comparison here lol

I already am connected to Beacon on my PS3 HEN! If you mean that I should make a tutorial for it - I have the video planned in the future, though unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly when I am going to start working on it. I have a pretty busy month right now, so it might be not feasible for me to do stuff at the moment.
@@Kaiju-Nick Some PS3 slim models support custom firmware, you will have to look up yours and compare to the list of compatible models and see you can mod your PS3 with CFW. Alternatively, you can use PS3 HEN which is a hybrid firmware which works for all PS3 models, including Super Slim.
Is it the first time connecting to Beacon, or have you connected before using PS3? Also double check if you have the latest game version installed, network settings applied and the Beacon Custom Server patch enabled.
After doing all of this I for some reason am unable to spawn, like im stuck in an infinite death loop even though Im connected to the servers. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Oh no.. this is a very rare bug called 'spawn pop cancer'😯I've never had this personally so I don't know how to fix it per say. I highly doubt this would have been caused by the server connection but one thing you could do is - if you're on LBP2, try to press Start, go to Settings and in Pod choose Reset Pod Decoration. If that doesn't work and say you did not have much progress in your profile, you could try resetting your profile and start over.
Well, it is a significantly smaller community and way smaller pool of levers compared to the original servers, no doubt. But heck, at least we can play LBP2 online again!

I don't think there is, if RPCS3 Discord bot doesn't list 1.19 update then it's most likely merged with 1.20. Just download and install the very next one. Also what kind of error is it? I can't say exactly what to do without knowing it but I presume you installed updates in wrong order and you may have to reinstall the game again.

How do you use your keyboard for textchat? I have configured a controller to use but can't get my keyboard to type.
In custom game config in I/O tab, change Keyboard Handler to Basic.

I went through the same process twice, I did all the steps correctly, updated the game, made an account, did the game configuration thing and put the right network settings, did the patch thing and put it on beacon. game works perfectly fine though, just won't let me connect to the servers, maybe it's to do with my cpu idk

(8001002b)" error message, so i tried to uninstall it and try again and still appears that message, how is it supposed to propperly uninstal the game files or whatever you need?
If it's a disc version, you will need to uninstall the game data of it, for this you need to go to View -> Game Categories -> Game Data. Then find the Game Data which has a matching title/name and game version and delete it by right clicking it and choosing Manage Game -> Remove PS3 Game Data, this should hopefully downgrade your game to the lowest version, so you can reinstall updates.

Do you have a controller with the motion controls, like Dualshock 3, 4 or Dualsense? Xbox 360/One controllers won't work because these don't have them.

@@leepic1103 Which game, is it LBP3? If it's LBP3 then unfortunately this game tends to corrupt Adventure Mode progress and you have to delete it and start over to fix it.
@@leepic1103Now that I think about it, it might be because of Accurate XFloat enabled (I did say in the video to set to either that or Approximate for which I apologize). Accurate XFloat actually breaks some physics in game and it should be avoided altogether. Set it to Approximate instead.

4 core/8 thread CPU - it should be fine, as long as you set these settings in the config:
On CPU tab:
- Xfloat Accuracy to Approximate (required for LBP physics to work properly)
- SPU Loop Detection enabled
- Preferred SPU threads: 6
- Framerate cap: either Auto or Off (the game locks fps at 30 anyway)
On GPU tab:
- Write Color Buffers enabled
- ZCULL Accuracy as Relaxed
On Audio tab: enable Audio Buffer and set to 150-200 ms (helps reduce audio stutter at low fps)
On I/O set Keyboard Handler to Basic if you want to use keyboard in-game
Also you will need to enable 'Disable MLAA patch for LBP2, LBP3' from RPCS3 main window in Manage -> Game Patches. This patch also requires CPU blit to be enabled which in custom game config is under Debug tab, which is hidden by default. To enable Debug tab you need to edit the file inside the RPCS3 folder\GuiConfigs\CurrentSettings.ini, look for show_debug_tab, change to true and then save file.

the first level in the eu version is broken, larry falls at the star of the level and he cannot accompain you through the level, also there is a door you cannot unlock because you can't place the right sticker. is this a problem that can be solved?
Make sure Xfloat Accuracy is set to Approximate. I set it to Accurate in the video but that setting also breaks physics.

Also make sure to check Silence All Logs from the Advanced Tab. LBP2 and LBP3 are known to generate *tons* of logs which can cause slowdowns in the game.
There is also an MLAA patch which works for both LBP2/LBP3. If you don't mind certain missing graphics for extra fps boost, you can enable it by going into Manage -> Game Patches.

Yes, but then for example you get limited experience with Versus mode. Online Multiplayer lets you have separate screens, Parsec does not.
Also it is strongly dependant on latency. Not to say LBP itself is not reliant on low latency but at least there is lag compensation in some capacity.

Ensure you copy and paste the token correctly.

You can safely delete all .pkg updates after you install them.

RPCS3 has built in support for Dualshock 3, 4, Dualsense and Xinput controllers. All you need is to configure them in Manage -> Gamepad Configuration.

@@LVL58Designs I don't think the game version matters, as long as you put your backup profile onto the /dev_hdd0/home/00000001/savedata, then it should show up in the game.
After all, I did copy the backup file from the LBP2 EU disc version into US digital version without any issues.

Game stutters at times like crazy and still says compiling shaders, anyone knows if that's the norm?
The game should initially compile all the shaders as you play the game for a while for a first time and it should smooth out after all a while.
It also depends on PC specs, some CPUs will take longer time to compile shaders than others.
Also there is a config you can set to minimize stutter and framedrops, I've mentioned it in a previous reply so be sure to look that one up.

Check if you've got everything else: RPCN account setup, network settings in game's custom config, patch enabled from Manage Patches menu
Is there a way to compile all the shaders so it won't crash/lag again?
Well... you compile shaders as you play the game, so the more you play the game and the more things gets compiled, then the framerate becomes more and more stable overtime, there's no way around this.
As for the crashes/lags - crashes will inevitably happen due to the fact that the emulator is still in alpha and is still unstable, you can tweak the custom config of the game (say increase the Driver Wake-up Delay to 800us) to migitate that, as well as tweak other things such as increasing Preffered SPU Threads to 6, enabling CPU blit, enabling Disable MLAA Patch in RPCS3 menus to improve the performance. However the latter still largely depends on your PC specs, most notably -your CPU. The minimal CPU specs for LBP series should be a 4 core/8 thread CPU (and also with dedicated graphics).
I'm going through the RPCS3 Discord right now to install all the updates. I saw that version 1.19 is missing, will this cause any issues or is it ok like that?
1.19 update does not exist, just install the next one, which is 1.20.

I've answered the other guy in this comment section what settings you can use to improve the framerate, so you should look it up and tweak it as I proposed. Personally the most notable 3 things are: setting Preffered SPU threads to 6 (helps with the collecting bubbles lag), silencing logs (saves disk space but also can prevent the emulator from crashing because it generates tons of logs) and the Disable MLAA patch, which you can access from the RPCS3 main window's Manage -> Game Patches option (it disables a pretty expensive anti-aliasing but also removes certain graphical effects so it does give a huge fps boost if you need it).

I assume you installed the game updates in a wrong order if the game fails to launch the game. Uninstall the game and reinstall it alongside all the patches

@@Kaiju-Nick Some PS3 slim models support custom firmware, you will have to look up yours and compare to the list of compatible models and see you can mod your PS3 with CFW. Alternatively, you can use PS3 HEN which is a hybrid firmware which works for all PS3 models, including Super Slim.

After doing all of this I for some reason am unable to spawn, like im stuck in an infinite death loop even though Im connected to the servers. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Oh no.. this is a very rare bug called 'spawn pop cancer'😯I've never had this personally so I don't know how to fix it per say.
I highly doubt this would have been caused by the server connection but one thing you could do is - if you're on LBP2, try to press Start, go to Settings and in Pod choose Reset Pod Decoration. If that doesn't work and say you did not have much progress in your profile, you could try resetting your profile and start over.

You can enable the keyboard input by setting Keyboard Input to Basic in I/O settings in RPCS3

You need to find someone, say on LBPUnion's Discord and ask to play with them on the same level. That's how you'll get to join someone.
Also CPU brand no longer matters :D The SPU bug has been fixed on the latest version so you can play between AMD/Intel now.

I don't think there is, if RPCS3 Discord bot doesn't list 1.19 update then it's most likely merged with 1.20. Just download and install the very next one.
