    Do all lip scrubs need a preservative or just some depending on the ingredients? Also how long is the shelf life of your scrubs?🤔

    • @Kw0806
      @Kw0806 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you want it to last, you'll need it for every project so no mold or bacteria grows. Also it's required for selling 💗

      @@aneekanoelle516 Actually, it is not required to sell. The choice to add a preservative is up to the maker. I wouldn't bother putting a preservative in my lip scrub. But I do put it in my body scrub which has a higher risk of water getting into it. hth :)

      Maybe a week or 2 .. keep in a dry cool area ot refrigerate

    • @rhondal8887
      @rhondal8887 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, the shelf life would be the same as the ingredient with the shortest shelf life. Keep in mind oils can go rancid. A preservative will not help with that. Oils and butters usually have a shelf life between 6 months and 2 years, depending on the oil/butter used.

    • @sidology1.0
      @sidology1.0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rhondal8887 I thoughts oils don't go rancid as long as their no water based products added ..?

    • @rhondal8887
      @rhondal8887 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sidology1.0 Oils will go rancid. They have a shelf life too. They'll start to smell old. Have you ever ate an old peanut, or old sunflower seeds? 😂 It's bad. Lol. Or have you ever smelled old peanut butter? But, Vitamin E will help them last longer. The preservative is to prevent nasties from growing in the product should water be introduced. Because water will cause it to grow bacteria quickly, otherwise.
      That's why lotions must have preservatives or they won't last long at all. They are made with water.

      You do not NEED to use it. They are correct when they tell you that. However, if you are selling your product you may want to. That is up to you. One way to decide this is to make plenty of lip scrub and test test test. Store it with / without and see what kind of risk your product poses for contamination. You can certainly find lip scrub on store shelves with no preservative, but some people think that is a taboo. It is up to you, but at the end of the day, you are responsible for any contamination in your product.

      you can try candelilla wax. Do research on making the swap. I believe it's harder than beeswax. So whatever your amount is for beeswax in a recipe, use half (50%) of that.

      Did you make any adjustments? or did you make it exact? The texture looks so nice in this video.

    • @ThermalMermaid
      @ThermalMermaid  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you package it the way you see me make this one it will set and become hard. This is how I like it because there is no spilling or leaking when I store it or ship it. You need to scoop it out with a little spoon when you use it in the shower and put it on a wash cloth for a scrub. You can use your fingers too, but a spoon is easier. If you want it to be more fluid then you just use less sugar. You can decrease the sugar until you get the texture you like to use.
