How To End The Simpsons.

- With The Simpsons making headlines again by canonically killing off another character, and not even a speaking one but the smallest, background character unnoticed for the decades. It's been leading me to ask the same controversial thought about the Simpsons Franchise. How long is this really going to go on for? And at what point do we call it quits? Will we keep getting canonical Simpson deaths until the roster is unfunctional, or do we get the even MORE grim reality of waiting until the real cast kick the bucket? What is the best ending for The Simpsons Franchise and how soon should it reasonably be done? Well here's my two cents on the matter. This, is How To End The Simpsons.

...Or maybe I just want the magic of the first Simpsons Movie again... - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
I didn't know that Fat Tony had died until yesterday, and it bummed me out. Not just because I love that character, but because the show is so stagnant that I didn't even realize it'd happened 13 years ago.
His cousin more or less evolved into a copy of him and in fact he was in the salon in the Larry episode. The joke is that he's a such a copy of Fat Tony that he never died plus he has his same mannerisms and personality now.
He just got replaced with Fit Tony, who then put on a few pounds and became Fat Tony again. The new Fat Tony behaves exactly the same, and is still voiced by Joe Mantegna, so its really just a gag.
Yeah Fat Tony was killed off, but his cousin pretty much became another Fat Tony, so it doesn't even matter.
Actually I found this to be really funny xD
It is just a Landfill 2 situation.
they’ll never stop the Simpsons, have no fears we’ve got stories for years like: Marge becomes a robot, maybe moe gets a cellphone, has Bart ever owned a bear or, how bout a crazy wedding, where something happens a doo da da doo da. sorry for the clip show, have no fears we’ve got stories for years
I was just thinking of that
😆yup, summed it up nicely and musically 🤣
Kinda reminded of Don Hertzfeldt couch opening where the Simpsons continues into the far future and becoming more twisted parody of themselves, stripped of their humanity, with only Homer remember some good memories when they were a family.
That was my "I'm done with this show" point. Just a "screw you" to the hardcore fans that care about it.
"Marge becomes a robot" could actually happen if they replace Julie Kavner's voice with AI
"Death has never really been a canonically enforced part of The Simpsons"
I mean... I guess? Bleeding Gums Murphey, Maude Flanders, Frank Grimes, Krusty's dad, Mona Simpson, Edna Krabappel and Fat Tony all died and had plots revolved around that fact for a while.
Also adding Mrs Glick to that list
Wait, Fat Tony died? When tf did THAT happen lol
While characters like Dr. Monroe meet the whole ambiguous circumstance thing. sometimes dead, sometimes not.
Mostly minor characters apart from Edna. Fat Tony doesn't really count IMO since they immediately pulled another character out of thin air who looks and sounds the exact same and hs the same name.
@@userdetails1 mostly minor but maude and especially mona definitely had a huge impact on the show
The final episode of The Simpsons or SpongeBob is going to break so much TV/streaming records when it air.
Which will inevitably lead to the higher-ups thinking that they shouldn't cancel it afterall...
Don't forget, there's still One Piece.
You mean "if" it ever airs
also the final episode of One Piece when it happens
It'll probably break mash or friends numbers
I very much agree. It'd be a shame if we get to Season 99 and NONE of the original voice cast are still alive, that all of their voices have been digitally captured and recreated using AI. That none of the charm and the magic of it is still there.
They are slowly changing the va in other languages.
That would be depressing to see 100 seasons of the Simpsons using ai and none of the original voice actors are alive. I bet Matt Groening would be rolling in his grave.
Basically Don Hertzfeldt couch opening
That would be grossly immoral…
@@longwlenguyen4214 Not that bad simply replaced and voiced modulated. Last this was just a back ground character please this video is mostly click bait and making a big deal over a small character I mean if his actor died rest in piece but come on.
Modern simpsons was always and will forever be better than the hate filled toxicity that is modern family Guy
Agree
I remember the huge outcry when Family Guy was cancelled after 3 seasons
Exactly I'm glad Family guy ended
Wait? They are now cancelling the Simpsons? Modern Family Guy should have died a decade or two ago. The soul and heart of old Family Guy and modern are beyond too different. They aren't even close to the same show, writers, and the only commonality is voice actors... I assume. I never watched later, or if I have. Then I must have forgotten them till the end of time.
I prefer family guy over simpsons simpsons is more for kids
cartoon characters are their voice actors, so even if the simpsons out live their voices, the show would finally, truly end there
Very true.
That is when The Simpsons should definitely end.
Don't worry. AI voice duplication has that covered. Just because they're dead doesn't mean they don't still have to come in to work.
@@peytonmac1131 please tell me your joking & not being serious (if you are it's hard to tell with text, so you should probably know that for next time you jokingly/ sarcastically type)
tbf while I don't believe it for the Simpsons, I think the voice actors are just too iconic and like you said, are the characters, there are plenty of instances where actors die and they will just replace them. Timmy Turner's voice actor from Fairly Oddparents, Aunt May from Spider-Man The Animated Series 1990's, and uncle Iroh from Avatar. Also it's best to end it on a planned high note, then end as a normal, potentially bad note. Or mediocre note. They deserve an ending as fitting as their roles.
Is anyone else just now noticing that Larry existed? When I first heard of his passing, I just assumed this was another "Graggle" fad

I would say this show would get a proper ending once James L. Brooks retires from the Hollywood industry since he's currently 83 years old (he's gonna be 84 this month on the 9th).

That's my late dad's birthday. He would be slated to turn 75 in a few days.

A way I can see the Simpsons ending is with another movie of them trying to escape the limbo they're in.
I think that would be cool, seeing the family realise they've been stuck for the last roughly 35 years (as of writing) and try to change that.
Have the ending be like a montage of all the stuff that would've happend if time didn't stand still, Maggie growing up, Bart and Lisa graduating, that sorta stuff.
And then have a scene where an old Homer and Marge are just enjoying the retired life, sitting outside on a summer evening, watching the sunset.
You are a fucking genius
Not a bad idea, but I feel that they’ve already done so many flashback / future episodes that I just know the entire history of the characters. We know Bart will be an underachiever of some kind but he will not be bitter and still be his same charming self, we know Lisa is destined for greatness of some kind and may possibly end up marrying Milhouse or Nelson, Maggie is the most mysterious character, but from the bits and pieces we’ve seen I would estimate that Maggie grows up to become a sort of Bart and Lisa fusion, having some of barts mischievousness with Lisa’s intelligence. Homer and Marge will be the same as they ever were, just older and not any less in love with each other. Still though, the concept of them realizing they’re stuck in a time loop some how would be cool, and to see them grow into their older selves over the movie would also be cool. The Simpsons is such a massive cultural phenomena that I think to end it on a movie like that would be a really awesome way to go out if done right.
The Simpsons: I’m tired boss
Fox/Disney: You’re done when I say you’re done
The thing about this comment is that it also would work if Fox played Saul, and just Disney as Walt.
Yeah, Disney will never, ever let it die. The time to end it was before that sale; now it's literally too late.

I really wish they get a proper ending soon. Saddest part is, most people I know dont even know the show is still going
I wish they'd get a proper ending too, after too many years of being on TV. Hopefully, they'll come up with a good series finale soon.
@@dreamguardian8320 it better be since I do hint for James L. Brooks’ retirement so we can get a proper ending to this show
We also don't know how to have a good finale

Maggie simpson all grown up !
@@lexramstudios1386 Well, just an idea, maybe there could be an episode where each of the Simpson members look back and see all the errors of their ways, and have a happy moment as touching as the Thanksgiving episode, or the Christmas episode where Bart tries to redeem himself after stealing. Maybe even have the finale put an end to Mr. Burns evil and bizarre reign.

"Wait a minute. Bart's teacher is named Krabappel?! I've been calling her Crappable!"
Hey here’s a thought. I remember back when the first Simpsons Movie came out, there was a commercial interview asking Matt Groening and others questions. One of them was if the theme song had any lyrics. Yes and only Matt Groening and Danny Elfman know them. If the Simpsons are ever gonna end, they have to give us the full theme song.
i’m still waiting for the simpsons to have a plot about the existential problem with the floating timeline and how no one has aged for decades
It takes me out of the show whenever anyone pulls out a cellphone...
SILVERWARE
There is that super cool opening "gag"
They should do a one-off episode as if it's a brand new show, if they were coming up with these characters from scratch today, what would they be like?
Ameircan Dad! at least rebranded like 100%. When one of the creators left it did a 180°, got new characters, tossed out a ton of characters, the plot-beat changed, it got funnier and maybe more relatable to the audience that stuck around and grew up with it. I remember as a kid seeing the world of warcraft episode as a WoW playing teen thinking it was hammy and missed the mark, but latest season klaus stoned playing eldenring as an astrologer, right on the money😂
What's with all the talk about simpsons ending?
Y'all know damn well this show won't end by choice
It will only end at gunpoint
For me it would be good enough if the show ends with season 40 (a nice round number) that would bring the stories of the side characters to a close and a second movie right after for a banger ending.
I agree. It should possibly end sometime in 2028/2029. Since I hinted that James L. Brooks will retire from the Hollywood industry since he will be around the time when he's 88/89. We see the likes of Clint Eastwood, Michael Caine and Bruce Willis retiring, so he could be next (and maybe Scorsese)
I vaguely remember a supposed quote from a writer saying the show was halfway done when it celebrated its 20 year anniversary. So that could happen.
I think the thing to ask is, is it relevant enough to keep going? Would anyone *really* miss it if it did end now, if they could go out on a high note? Where does The Simpsons even fit into pop culture now? The episodes might have improved recently, but this show peaked a very long time ago.
Yeah i agree. I dont know a single human that actively watches the simpsons anymore. Its not relevant. Ive watched episodes that were popular over the years but nothing crazy. Honestly they should have stopped at the movie.
I said this up top but the Simpsons in their traditional format, the moral centric sitcom format that of which originated in the 90s, thereby solidifying its identity: that should have ended in the year 2000
As for the characters you can still use them in comics, video games and maybe spin off cartoon shorts but they are a product of their time and it’s really odd and arguably a hinderance when the characters don’t age but the setting and it’s time period changes along with the characters pasts. I think it’s a problem anyway
@@KRobinson-ko1ne I think what broke me was the episode when Homer and Marge were in college in the 90s. I think that really hurt the dynamic of the show, as did switching from cel animation to digital (I get why they did that, but a lot of charm was lost. You can't get those wacky in-between frames with digital)
"Death has otherwise never really been a canonically enforced part of The Simpsons except for Maude and Edna"
Bleeding Gums Murphy having an entire episode about his passing in season 6 and Lisa dealing with her grief: Am I a joke to you?
The Simpsons ending i imagine would probably be something like them moving out of Springfield because of rising prices n stuff (the classic Simpsons riffing on current issues) and the whole movie ending with the family moving out (like how in 90s shows characters leaving or shows ending cause they "went to college")
This just STINKS of a show DESPERATELY trying to be relevant again. "Let's kill off a character to make headlines! (But one who's barely in it, shh!)"
You guys would just moan and complain about it anyway if they killed off a relevant character. Give me a break
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 either way it shows they are stretching for ideas.
i think it just shows the shows trying to change, rather than be what it has for 20 - 30 seasons of shit.
Least they actually kill off characters and don't bait for cheap views like what Family Guy did
@@slayer21121 (laughs in Fattony)
Because the core of what the Simpsons is refuses to grow up while following whatever trends are currently in circulation...
... any story around their future would lack any possible impact whatsoever.
“Mrs. Crap-able”…… that is not how you pronounce that name….
Wait a minute. Bart's teacher is named Krabappel?! I've been calling her Crandall!
Well 20 years ago would have been best but a little late for that now
Here’s what I think they should have done with the Simpsons:
The Simpsons have been a product of their time, a spoof of a 90s suburban family/moral centric sitcoms of the time.
I really that factor combined with the fact that the characters don’t age despite the fact that the setting/time period reflects that of the real world.
I know the writers try to incorporate such into the shows humor and changing homers past but, again, I find that more frustrating especially when the quality of the show arguably declined.
I think the show, at least in its traditional format, should have just ended in 1999-2000. I do like the comics because they unlike the show can get away with more surreal material and that arguably keeps the universe from feeling dated/out of place. The Halloween specials are the same thing
I think they can use the characters in full perch movie parodies, video games, etc.
I’m open for debate
I like your ideas about the traditional format ending and the Simpsons characters staying around for parody movies and the annual Halloween special.
But I don't think 1999/2000 is when they should have called the traditional format quits. I'll admit that I have a sweet spot for the 2007 Simpsons Movie, but besides that it would have also been a nice thematic end to the show. 2007 is also right before 2008 (and wide scale internet adoption) shaped much of North American culture. The early 2000s still felt like a natural development from the '90s, and I think the Simpsons still felt like a "part" of that '00s culture. Cutting it in '99 would be killing it at its height, while most great shows were allowed a small (but still tasteful) fade from relevance in their later seasons. The Simpsons should have gone out with the sunset of its era, not been turned into a zombie (our timeline) or killed at its height.
“Mrs.Crap-able”
Played by "Mar-see-uh Wallace"
the only way i see the show truly ending is if either matt groening dies or if 1 of the long time cast members like dan castellaneta and nancy cartwright dies and even in those cases i have a hard time seeing it end considering we all know disney's tendency for milking things for everything they're worth if marvel and star wars proves anything.
"Plus, you can replace the voice actors and nobody can tell the diddly-ifference!"
It would definitely end with Matt Groening dying. Then again, Stephen Hillenburg has been dead for nearly 5.5 yrs and Spongebob is still going.
Larry Dalrymple actually never had one episode about him, he was quite literally a background character in the sense that he just shows up in the background scenes at Moe's to just show that they are other people there beside the main cast. I think that was the whole joke for the Simpsons to suddenly have a whole episode dedicated to his death, where we find out Homer and everyone else apparently had a deep friendship and shared experiences with him that the audience never got to see. I binged the first 25 seasons of the Simpsons, and when I saw online that they killed off Larry, I didn’t even remember who he was
Most long-running franchises do not keep at it with the exact same program. Most shows, even when they're theatrical shorts like Mickey Mouse, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, etc. would eventually transition from one version of the franchise to another. Sure, the core idea of the franchise may be the same, but it's not like most of these shows are still going the same way.
Though at the same time, The Simpsons is far from the only show to keep going with no sign of stopping. Just look at Sesame Street, another of the longest running and most profitable television shows of all time: it's gone on since 1969 and *still* isn't anywhere near cancellation. But even the longest running shows have to end eventually. The longest run show in *history,* Guiding Light, went on for 72 years, from 1937 to 2009. And obviously, a lot of changes had to be made over time with such a ludicrously long run.
1989, not ‘69*
@@TrulySoviet2436they're talking about sesame street
@@cheezit2398 oh right lol
But the other shows have a rotating cast of characters. The Simpsons have voice actors that are irreplaceable. It could be spun off, but the original series will and must end, hopefully in the right way.
@@matthewcole4753 And that's the problem with The Simpsons going as long as it has. The VAs may eventually get too old to keep voicing the same characters for so long.
Thing is in Australia Neighbours finally 'ended' and everyone tuned in and then it did so well it got brought back but not really and so the irony is any attempt to end it may just pick up ratings so much that it wouldnt stick.
But yeah, let them end it on their own terms before it ends on some arbitrary whimper.
Oh, yeah, that terrible soap drama they'd broadcast after The Simpsons, back in the day. Surprised boomers are still around to watch it.
@@urbanyouths It actually did have a long-standing loyal fan-base who, from what I can tell, were baffled it had to end. I mean they seem to be aware it was melodramatic but they enjoyed the up and down of how stupid or how intense the plots could get. For my money I'd be flipping channels and shake my head at it and then get hooked and then fall off and that'd be a cycle every few years. I sort of liken it to Doctor Who, its usually easy viewing, it's probably absurd but its made on the cheap and it's got such a legacy behind it, it's Australia's Big Thing that made it overseas and was a lot of peoples entry gateway into TV writing/acting. I'm often complaining why Australia hangs its hat so much on Neighbours and Kath and Kim (like, where's our Doctor Who in terms of fantasy/sci-fi/any genre other than suburban drama) but again made on the cheap so most things are set in suburban drama or suburban comedy.
The fact that it ended and we couldn't let go of it really says something to me about the state of Australian Film/TV industry internationally. Many will mention Crocodile Dundee, Kath and Kim, Hey Hey It's Saturday, but I'm sort of like ... name something recent? Aunty Donna made it on netflix but it's not on the same scale as Crocodile Dundee was? And they had to go to Netflix, I'm waiting for the next big international thing MADE by US.
If anything the surprising good quality of recent seasons should be more incentive to end the show soon, that way it ends on a more positive note. If the show ends during a bad season it will forever be mocked as the show that overstayed its welcome then canned, if the show ends during a good season then it will be remembered as a long lasting pop culture phenomenon that has touched many lives before finally ending.
I always suspected we'd get some big three part episode/movie as the penultimate thing - then, just a humble little standard-length episode as the actual end of the series that quietly alludes to the first episode and the roots of the show. It seems right to somehow end exactly how it began, like they tried in a way with 'Holidays Of Future Passed' in Season 23, which was written as a possible last episode. Just a pinch after or before the 1000th episode... if there's 22/23 episodes a year on average, that puts you at about 10 more seasons before its officially done. Regardless, I think they'll get somewhere in the 900 episode ballpark - between 39-42 seasons feel like a good number - would take till season 45 to hit 1000. If capitalism truly has no decency, I could maybe see yearly 30 min specials after that, like Peanuts, until the heat death of the universe. Personally, I'd prefer shorter seasons of 13 truly bang-up episodes - they average about that many great ones per season, and if they could focus a pinch more on some of them that'd make all the difference. If they weren't still beholden to a degree to Fox, they probably would shorten the episode order per season. They also have this odd thing where 9 episodes from the previous season are held over to begin the start of the next season, so some shorter seasons overall would rectify that and have a clean ending where there isn't a shortened 9 episode final season.
If they ever end the simpsons, they need to get Ken Keeler to write. He's great at "Last Episode ever for real this time" episodes.
Ur right they should end with most of the cast intact. Living in Germany and being a huge fan of Spongebob i've already witnessed an old voice cast being replaced in almost its entirety. From the main Spongebob cast only the voices of Spongebob, Sandy and a few side characters are left and it rly makes me sad to even try to watch these newer episodes.
Also I never considered this but what would happen to South Park if either Mat or Trey couldn't do the voices anymore? Scary thought.
Sometimes I kind of want to show to just go on forever just like in Don Hertzfeldt's couch gag
Yeah, I mean, there's no reason not to. They've gone way, WAY too long past the point where they should have ended, so at this point they might as well just keep going for the bit.

What about that other side character that got killed off... 10 or 11 years ago? I think it was an episode about Krusty the Clown, and that character was close to him? I DO recall it was the same night as the premiere of the "Simpsons Guy" crossover that we all know.
10 sounds more likely. I feel old now.

@@-throat- yes it was Hyman Krustofski. I saw that season premiere.
2014 gave us the death of Hyman Krustofsky, though he occasional still appears as a ghost. 10 years later in 2024 gave us the death Larry Dalrymple who had even less significance in the series than Krusty the Clown's father. I know Larry Dalrymple was a regular at Moe's bar, but he only speaks in two episodes in the entire series. In the episode "Bart Gets Hit by a Car," he says, "Who's the chick!? [wolf whistles] Woooo!" in reaction to Marge coming in. In "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)," he says one word, "Colleague."
@andykishore funny enough, he speaks longer in the 2007 game and in one of the comics.
Who's Miss Crapable? Kre-Ba-Pul. It's said in the show hundreds of times how do you mess it up? The only exception is calling her Crandle.
I'm fairly sure its just a product of his accent
I just want an It's Always Sunny/Simpsons crossover. Charlie hanging out with Bart and/or Ralph or Frank doing deals with Mr. Burns Dennis making friends with Sideshow Bob? I could see plenty of fun possibilities.
The final episode of the Simpsons should be about then finally leaving the time bubble the series has been in the last 40 years, having the all the characters at the age they'd have in the present day and being about moving on. Touching on some really modern day topics like how the kids, as grown ups, can't seem to find affordable houses unlike their dad. Maybe with the imminent death of one of the parents as something to bring the family together for a final goodbye.
Wait, the VA of Mrs Krabble died in 2013? I've thought she died a lot sooner? Time flies am I right?
Love the use of Nintendo OSTs, especially Melee's Temple music and Poshley Heights from TTYD!
The Simpsons is long overdue for an ending, its slowly losing its charm with the lack of a orchestral soundtrack in the later seasons and episode plots becoming repetitive. I know some people are saying the newest couple of seasons are good but how long can they keep up the average/better than quality for? I'd say maybe enough to get a finale out but knowing how they are handling things, they are gonna keep it up for many more seasons and the quality will most likely drop again.
Anyone remember the friendship Lisa and Bleeding Gums Murphy had, it was just special and so sad when she would later see his ghost multiple times over the years.
There is the idea to loop the Simpsons back around to the very first episode but I think that takes away from everything that the characters have gone thought and the changes to them.
I think for a second movie they should change the status quo in a big way. Maybe Abe passes away and the family have to deal with the grief. Something to say that the family have changed and broken out of this cycle they are in. Super Eyepatch wolf has a great video on this cycle they are in, breaking it would give a good reason to end the show aside from the money / logistics to keepng the show going.
So basically what Futurama was doing for a while before it got brought back by Hulu.
The final episode of the Simpsons should be a sequel to the episode “Springfield up” with eric idle returning as the documentary filmmaker making his final trip to Springfield only this time the characters have actually aged accordingly kids are adults adults are old or dead depending on age or story and we learn what their lives are like who married who what crazy lives they lead etc end it with the documentary premiering and we can see them all watching a montage of the shows gratest moments as we the audience reminisce one last time with the characters
Family guy been real quiet since this came out
A great point about the Friends comparison. A good show doesn't disappear because it ends, especially not in the streaming world. Heck, I recently binged the original Flintstones and that series ended nearly 60 years ago.
The thing about the Simpsons is that ending the main show never risks destroying the franchise. The show is so iconic now that Simpsons fans would pick up any sequel or spin-off set in the Simpsons universe, provided they are well written/made.
A sequel or spinoff has the benefit of keeping the fundamental formula that makes the show great (at least originally) while allowing a 'reset' with new settings, plots and characters that would serve to refresh the stories. Even if it doesn't work out and they decide to resume the old show, a few years of hiatus would give the audience some breathing room they needed to be ready for new episodes, as well as writers time to do new episodes right.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling the showrunners are too risk adverse to do it.
Unfortunately I feel like the biggest problem with ending the Simpsons is how do you end the show, anyway way you end the show it would still feel like we’ve done this before, or in situations they would just never do like kill off the Simpsons at the end of the show, and with what you said about a second movie, it would still feel sort of repetitive since we already had a movie, what I’m saying is that with the shows nearly 40 Year run they’ve done so many ideas it wouldn’t really make the finale unique, or maybe I’m just talking crap, who knows
Great video Btw
For anyone unaware yes the old guy hans moleman has died multiple episode but apparently there is a giant civilization of those guys under springfield
When they do inevitably end the show, I hope they keep rerunning the Halloween episodes. Honestly, during October, if my dad is watching the simpsons on tv, I can’t help but watch as well, since they always have a decent amount of care put in
From what i remember hearing, the Simpsons was very close to ending around the 2010s.
Fox was having a hard time having the voice actors sign new contracts. So the writers, fearing for a possible cancelation, made one of those "future" episodes, ment to be a wrap up for the simpson family.
Yup, that's it
I was seeing one person before mention something that would be a nifty ending, to bookend everything: have the Simpson family be approached by studio executives to turn the story of their lives into a show. Shenanigans ensue until, at the end, they all race home to watch the first episode, this final sequence mirroring the same intro found for the show itself. Personally, I'd prefer if such an ending mirrored the original intro, and not any of the subsequent revisions, but any way of doing that could work well.
Also, Disney could easily still milk some Simpsons-related IP for all it has if they end the show proper. Built in to the show itself is the potential spinoff of Radioactive Man. They even adapt some of the old Bongo Comics stories. And, as a bit of a fun mind screw, while it can be established that the show would be fictional in the Simpsons universe, they could show that the Simpsons is fictional in the Radioactive Man universe (possibly being a TV show there).
Other spinoffs, of course, could be Itchy and Scratchy, as well as McBain, but I think Radioactive Man has more legs (especially more than Itchy and Scratchy).
Ending with a movie sounds like a great idea but I think the very last thing they should end with is a Christmas special so they can go the way they started. The movie, then the Christmas special, and it's all wrapped up.
Another possible way I've thought of ending it is by making the final season something they've never done before: a whole season-long arc. Episodes - more than just a couple - that follow on from each other and say goodbye to everyone in Springfield as they move on organically.
3:24 - 3:39 is an absolute amazing point I wish everyone pointed out more..
From what I can remember, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Dr Marvin Monroe, Frank Grimes, Maud Flanders, Troy McClure, Edna Krabappel, and now Larry are all canonically dead in the Simpsons current continuity. Troy and Edna were written out because of their voice actors' deaths, I think the rest were all in-universe deaths from various stories over the years. Those are just the ones I can remember though.

In regards to the voice cast theres somthing I've been wondering about.
From what I've heard Disney has a system for its legacy characters voice actor where they all have a successor waiting in the wings if the voice actor dies or is otherwise unable to works. This extends to characters they have aquired cause this lead to a falling out with Steve Whitmire, who was the puppeteer for Kermit the frog after Jim Henson passes away after having disagreements about who got to be his sucessor.
This has had me wondering if this same rule applys to the Simpsons cast and what that means for the ones who play multiple roles.
I'm calling it, when they finally let The Simpsons die they'll just make a spin off or reboot, my money is on a Simpsons future series following Bart and Lisa's families
I wonder if it'd be too drastic an idea to prerecord the finale of The Simpsons and then just shelf it until the end has finally come. At the very least, it'd avoid the issue of what if one of the core characters' voice actors were to pass, they'd already have the end locked and loaded to send the show out with a bang instead of a whimper.
We have this show in Australia called Neighbours that like The Simpsons was on the air for a long time (36 years I think) before getting cancelled. It got a great final which lots of people loved and watched but literally less than a year later it got picked up again by Amazon making the whole exercise feel pointless. So really I couldn’t care less if the Simpsons is still on or not because I feel as though as soon as it shows its series final, it will be no time at all before it’s rebooted and put back on the air.
Thing is if the Simpsons stops now we know it's not coming back. If they stopped it sooner, people would want its return.
Since the executives won’t let the show die I think the best option would be to retool it to age up all the characters by 15 years or so with an all-new voice cast. While ending the show altogether would be the best thing to do, if it has to go on it needs some major changes.
Simpsons: all growed up
I could see that being a massive flop, though. I don't think anyone would really want that. It would be like that awful Joey spin-off from Friends, or that How I met Your Mother spin-off, How I met Your Father.
It's like trying to recapture that 'lightning in a bottle' by just trying to do the same thing all over again, just with a different cast.
@@BadgerOff32I feel the only way this could work is with a Spin off with a new cast, but even then, who would want that?
@@BadgerOff32 I agree. Like I said, the only truly good option is ending the show altogether.
I really liked the section of that episode where Bart and other kid characters were teenagers. Even though I'd been over the show for about 9 years at that point the idea of taking the series in that direction did spike my interest. Now that episode was almost 9 years ago and I think the timing when that might have worked has long passed.
I have not really seen the new stuff but it makes me a little happy knowing the Simpsons are the same age as me.
Thanks for the cool guide man, will do 👌
where did you find that background music 1:17
It's the Zelda 2 Temple theme from Smash Bros Melee
1:47 Krah-bopple
I think I saw somewhere the creators said if the series were to end it would be a loop where the first episode is also the last.
"mrs crappable" is insane 💀
I have no idea when the simpsons will end but it better be worth it when the final the real final happens
The issue with a final episode of the simpsons is that the show has done ALOT of stuff you could have considered a finale.
I remember thinking how the simpson movie could have been a final, or the episodes where we saw their future selves.
Idk what cliched ending the simpsons could do to end their slice of life comedy. The Simpson loved to go through ideas.
I feel like its going to be a lacklustre episode. Which makes me wish they just decide to end on a small note.
Something akin to a message to the audience through the simpson characters themselves. And then maybe ending will conclude with the future selves repeating history with their new families or selves, coming together to celebrate another year as Simpsons but within a bigger overall family, hinting at a future where although are simpson cast will be gone, it doesn't mean their world is over or dying anytime soon.
Have another film where at the end, the family waking up in Doctor Monroe's electric chairs in their 1980s/90s bodies and finding it's all been a shared family dream, hence they know the future
3:57 I'd say DECENT but DEFINITELY not stellar. The new episodes don't reach the heights of the first ten years; at best they can be as good as the movies; plus Marges voice is genuinely heart breaking to hear. I kind of wish that they had just done a time skip with everyone grown up and older like their flash forward episodes. With them still keeping the same format.
"Mrs. Crappable?" Seriously?
The problem is it’s a lot easier to just keep throwing money at the animators and writers to keep making more episodes than taking the effort to organize such a huge event and write such a great finale to such a long running series.
The latest seasons have actually been quite good, if it ended now I'd be happy that it goes out on at least a somewhat consistently good era of the show instead of letting it become bad again and ending like they tried to last time (with Lisa goes Gaga)
In germany homers voice actor already died and... idk since his death i havent watched any seasons anymore. The og german homer has a great voice and I actually always liked him better than the actual english homer. The new homer voice actor does a great job sure, but it doesnt feel like the simpsons anymore. So they should really end the simpsons before anyone else in the english cast dies for that reason. At least the english audience should be able to have a "happy ending"
Not only Homers voice actor died, but also Marges VA already died in 2006.
the sad reality is that one of the key Voice Actors will die and they'll either find a way to end it or continue with a similar Voice Actor or just replace them somehow , I don't see them letting this show end on good terms
Wasn’t the show supposed to end with the movie? Or some special episodes?
Make it end somewhat like The Dinosaurs
Perhaps Mr. Burns let's his Nuclear Power Plant have a complete meltdown so it blows up for some odd reason and takes all of Springfield with it or a giant sinkhole swallows up all of Springfield
Didn’t EA try to do that before?
I have an idea for how to "end" the simpsons.
Basically, the last 2 episodes has grandpa telling a fav. story he experienced with the main characters, totaling 5 stories. At the end, what a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong plays, and the credits rool, with a collection of universally loved Simpsons moments.
Then, after the credits, it is shown that there is a second Simpsons-universe, that is taking place around the time of the third season of the original simpsons, with the old drawing style, but in modern times, that could then be used to have new seasons, but please only after a long break, to finally get some direction back in the series, as well as bring some characters back, like Crusty the Clowns father, who I wish to see return as a character.
I hate to tell you this mate they’ll probably never get rid of the simpsons, as long as there are irl quicky mart and bart tshirts they won’t stop till Matt drops
5:35 i can mark hearing a British man say goated off my bucket list :)
How I feel like the simpsons should end is with a remake of the very forst episode impling that you can continue the series back from the beginning
The first episode is revealed to be the last chronologically
i cant help but think of black panther and the actor who died of cancer out of nowhere, only to not even have marvel mention that as black panther seemingly disappeared...which given how old this series now, id be not surprised if that were to happen, but at the same time, that does mean that time is our only guidance for what would happen to the cast
If they really want the Simpsons to last forever they should just start aging the characters in real time
would love a second movie to end the whole thing but it needs conan and some of the other old writers to come back. i know it’s easier said that done but i think it can happen
Perhaps with the aging main cast, The Simpsons should either age the characters over episodes/seasons or simply replace the voice cast.
Aging the characters would allow for more stories they could do.
Maybe because I grew up with the spanish dub buy I don't think that a VA death should mark the end of anythin. And the older seasons are still there for anyone to watch, I'm not bothered by the new episodes and I enjoy seeing some of the newer ones every now and then. This one in particular was pretty neat.
Maybe reducing the number of episodes per year and making them longer could work better.
I would not be mad if there's still some version of The Simpsons in my 60s.
haven't watched the show since the movie, I thought it was stale then already. Too many celebrity jokes that as a foreign I didn't understand because I did not know them
I think it would be possible to continue The Simpsons indefinitely, without also roping in the voice actors for as long as they're able, though it would be _extremely_ difficult to pull off effectively:
Future Simpson generations.
Go in to the future, see children or grandchildren, slowly phase out the original characters while still keeping them as an option (Temporarily) as supporting characters.
Or, maybe relatives. Either way, an alternative family, new cast, new characters.
Heck, Doctor Who has been able to keep going with a constantly changing cast, and has mostly been regarded extremely positively. It would be interesting to see The Simpsons take a similar route, especially after all this time. Never would a show have taken such a drastic turn after _so_ long.
They did do a Death Episode when Lisa's friend Bleeding Gums Murphy died . That was a while ago .
idk I feel like the only people that keeep asking for the show to end are those that don't even watch the show anymore, most fans are still enjoy it and there is a lot of really good modern episodes, of course they are quite different than those of the golden era simpsons, but there's still value on them, I'm ok with having simpsons for as long as they can exist
I wish the Simpsons Christmas episode Holidays of Future Passed was the finale of the show as was originally intended.
