  • TIMESTAMPS BELOW!!
Hey y'all, in this vid I share about my recent experience on a 5-day ayahuasca retreat at Soltara Healing Center in Costa Rica. See timestamps for more context--this is a long one, so feel free to skip ahead!
1:30 The story behind my decision to do ayahuasca
    3:45 Why we chose Soltara
4:55 “The trip begins when you decide to do ayahusaca”
6:55 What my “goals” were going into it / goals vs. intentions
9:00 The role of psychedelics in my personal growth
10:00 What my parents said when I told them I was going
11:05 What a Soltara retreat is like; lodging, setting, food, the dieta, itinerary, the vomitivo, yoga, and most importantly, the people
16:40 Ceremony 1 (diagnostic night): The flow of ceremony, drinking ayahuasca, introduction to Icaros, feeling completely sober after three full doses, and having a bad reaction to mapacho smoke…or so I thought
22:19 Day 2 reflections: Meeting with facilitators and shamans to discuss the first ceremony and overall reflection going into ceremony 2 while feeling congested
22:40 Ceremony 2: Setting more specific intentions, blasting off, interacting with beings, purging, becoming my parents, outpouring of compassion and sobbing for hours, experiencing the technology of Icaros, realizations around how I can help family members heal
30:30 Day 3 reflections: Getting stung by a jellyfish, realizations around learning from every moment even in “less-than-ideal” circumstances, sitting in poop on the beach, feeling sick as a dog and feeling sorry for myself
35:44 Ceremony 3: Feeling like shit, tripping while sick, chaotic/fever dream experience, couldn’t breathe AND was nauseous, setting a new intention, breaking through the chaos, getting called out on my impulsive shopping habits, feeling convicted to shift behaviors, why I finally purged after resisting it all night
40:25 Integration: what I learned and continue to unpack about my experience. Am I changed forever?
42:45 Is ayahuasca like other psychedelics? Did I have crazy visuals? Was my experience similar to that of the other people on my retreat? Would I do it again? Would I recommend it?

Thank you for sharing your experience ! I found it super helpful as I navigate the beginning stages of me pursuing this path, specifically at Soltara. I’m curious.. I have a lot of mobility issues.. or I should say .. pain. I can walk, but it hurts. I have feet issues and am concerned with the walking there especially with the heat.. heat makes me worse. I know u mentioned it’s about an 8 min walk to the beach but how far is it from the maloca to the rooms with the a/c (I will need that 🥴) and to and from the pool/sunset deck/eating area etc? Is it all pretty close together ? And did u happen to notice if they have any means for people that have mobility issues like a golf cart to bring you to some of these places? Also u mentioned yhr 4 hour trip to get there, did that include the 2 hr fairy ? Just wondering the best way to travel there as well. Thx for your story !

Hi! Some of your questions should definitely be directed to Soltara re: your specific needs. Here’s what I can answer:
Everything at Soltara is within a few minutes’ walk, except for the beach which is a little bit longer. However, after ceremony your sense of distance/space is disoriented-I heard from some of the others that the walk back to their rooms felt longer. That’s why I said I was glad I stayed in the eco tambo hut.
All travel to/from Soltara is coordinated by Soltara-you don’t have to arrange anything. And yes the 4 hours includes the ferry.
      Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video, it's been very helpful as I'm planning my trip to Soltara ✌️
How did you go about asking for 3 cups at once for the start of your 2nd ceremony and did anyone do this for the first ceremony? I'm sometimes too anxious to go up for a 2nd cup as I notice others approach on their own to ask for another. At once seems like a helpful tip for me. I've had a similar experience where the first night or two I don't feel much.

Everyone takes 1 at the beginning of the first ceremony. You can go up for more… everyone has a red light flashlight that they turn on to signal to the facilitators that they’re ready for more.
My dosage for the second night was decided on in the diagnostic meeting that morning I mentioned in the video. The shaman told me (in front of the facilitators) to take 3 at the beginning, so that’s what I took.
All of this is discussed in great length before ceremony 1!

Hello Betsy and welcome back. Do you think they increased the potency of the Ayahuasca each night, it just seemed as though you had a different reaction to it each night? The voice that spoke to you, was it your voice you heard or was it a completely different voice? Looking forward to the next video, have a great day or night or both!

I was in the same group as Betsy and I can say that the potency was about the same but drinking 3 cups all at once made the experience more intense rather than spreading the 3 drinks out over a couple hours. However, the experience varies from person to person even at the same dosage. For example, there were people in our group who were smaller in size but drank twice as much but had a less intense experience than others.

Hey Vern! Yes--I would agree with what Ryan said. Same potency, but it definitely matters how much you take at once. At least in my experience.
Good question re: the voices...it's hard to qualify because it's not like normal "hearing." It's more like receiving a message directly to your conscience--like a thought that comes into your head. So it's hard to say... while these psychedelic experiences seem to take you to an entirely different "dimension" of sorts, they feel very familiar at the same time. Like you're returning to a place that you once knew very well. Similarly, the voice felt both "other" and like my own.
Not sure if that makes any sense--it's hard to explain something that isn't altogether "rational" haha. Thanks for watching!
