Is there a second bios in the computer? Because while there was a bios update on my computer which is the 7820 tower I tripped the wire and it unplugged. I cannot boot it anymore. Is there a way I can fix or is there a second bios?
Not you probably want me to tell you this but unfortunately, that is one of the things they tell you not to do when updating BIOS. That said I did send this to our support team and they said: "This model does not feature a backup BIOS. If the system doesn't power on after disconnecting from power, draining flea power, and resetting CMOS, then the mobo might be bricked." This video talks about draining flea power: th-cam.com/video/UJ-cXhhRJ6k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3pMhkfYd_HPBjKVU This talks about resetting CMOS: www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000025368/processors.html This may help too: www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000124377/how-to-perform-a-bios-or-cmos-reset-and-clear-the-nvram-on-dell-systems Tell us how it works out and good luck!
Yes, many of them do but some don't. Therre is a list of requirements from Microsoft for support of Windows 11, which came out in October of 2021. Here is a link to that list and you can also see what processors are compatible with Win 11 as that is a possible deal killer too: www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications?r=1 Sometimes certain hardware attributes are not active and you have to enable them through BIOS. Our Z8 G4 is a good example in that it originally said not compatible (which would have been ridiculous…) but the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) was not enabled. Once enabled, good to go. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
It use to have quiet fans at idle now the fans are to loud with the BIOS update. And there is no way of backing it down to the old BIOS anymore. And the setting to LOW in the BIOS doesn't do crap.
HI there Green Meanie, you are not alone. Apparently this is a thing and they have not fixed it yet, here are a few posts: www.dell.com/community/Precision-Fixed-Workstations/Precision-7820-BIOS-update-fans-run-fast/td-p/6204608 That one on Dell Support. This one on Intel, which does offer a solution of sorts but is more generic, this: www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005890/server-products/intel-compute-modules.html Hope one of those helps, and thanks for watching!
Hi Jeff, I'm not sure what "those things" are but I am going to have to assume you are referring to the M.2 Front drive trays. Those can either be purchased with the system or separately and use the SATA hot-swap backplane to connect, just like standard hot swap drive trays. If those are not the items you're talking about, send me another comment and I will try to answer your question. Thanks for watching!
I love my Precision 7820 Tower, but not the 'options' Dell offers with it. The keyboard is lightweight with chiclet keys and the (rather pricey) wi-fi add-n gives me between 1/3 to 1/2 the speed I get with the built-in wi-fi on my Dell Insperon laptop.
Love the chicklet key description! Yes, most of these systems come with the most basic of accessories. But, this is a great system and I really like the front load M.2 drives, just wish they were dual cartridges instead of just the one. I would say this reminds me of a title to one of Clint Eastwood's movies "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" but there's really no ugly part and the bad is not too bad. It's all mostly good! Thanks for the comments, gave me a laugh!
Hi again Abdullah, it will take two up front in the special hot-swap storage trays designed to hold 1 x M.2 each. You can also install four more in a Dell Ultra-Speed Drive Quad x16 card. NVMe RAID 0,1,10 option (Intel RSTe vROC). Not sure why you can't install more PCIe M.2 but that's what the specs indicate. Look here, and you will see Documentation at the bottom of the page for more information: bit.ly/2xQilGW

I know I'm 4 years late, but thanks to the 7820's forced airflow design there won't be a performance difference due to temperatures alone. However, if your OS decides to run a program on the 2nd CPU that needs access to a PCIe device (Like video editing), the 2nd CPU has to go through the 1st CPU to access that. This can slow down your workload depending on how busy the 1st CPU is. Thankfully this only happens on Windows, but it is worth taking into consideration.
Hi Yokai x2, Yes there is an internal speaker but if you want better sound there are a few other choices, which you can see on page 3 of this guide under Speakers: www.itcreations.com/user-manuals/7820-Tower/Dell-Precision-7820-Tower-Workstation-Spec-Sheet.pdf? You can always add in another optional PCIe card with a few external speakers for better sound quality. Great profile pic! Thanks for watching!
@@yokaiyokai6395, so I have confirmed there is an internal speaker and you can see it on page 34 of the Owner's manual under the installation and removal of the speaker, here: www.itcreations.com/user-manuals/7820-Tower/Dell-Precision-7820-Tower-Workstation-Owner's-Manual.pdf . In the same manual look up Troubleshooting (you can use CTRL F to look for specific things, type what you want to search for in the upper right hand corner where the little text box pops in. it will tell you how many instances there are and there are up and down arrows that allow you to navigate to each instance.) You will need to reboot the system and as it is booting press F12 when the Dell logo appears (this is right out of the troubleshooting section ) it may give you the option to troubleshoot your sound system. If not, open the case (when it's off) and see if you can find the speaker, as indicated in the manual (BTW, it hardly looks like a standard speaker) and see if it is connected properly. I would suggest disconnecting wires at the port, and then reinserting just to make sure. Try increasing the volume (without your headphones installed of course. Check the sound icone in the lower left of your screen (Win 10) to see if the volume is up. If nothing works, then it probably needs to be replaced. We have a replacement speaker here: www.itcreations.com/view_product.asp?product_id=104559 or you can just go with a sound card in one of your PCIe slots along with some external speakers, which in my opinion would be the way to go. We don't sell external speakers but you can find them easy enough and they don;t necessarily have to come from Dell. Hope that helps, send me another question if you have any more. Thanks for watching!
The label on PCIe slots are incorrect. They support 2 x16, x8, x4, and x1
Wish you had told me that a few years ago… I will add an amendment to the description of the video. Thanks for watching!

Is it not possible to add NVMe storage without buying those two accessories?
