I love the LazyMattMan representation. He's more than just a Binding Of Isaac enjoyer. He used to play DBFZ and even hit top 16 at NCR/Norcal Regionals 2019.
1st/2nd place prizes is absolutely insane, an all paid trip and registration for EVO 2024? Holy. The round robin seeding matches were great to see everyone with all their varying levels of play.
Was a blast catching this live. For anyone watching here, be sure to stop by on Sunday (tomorrow) at 3pm Pacific time for the real tournament. Most fun I've had watching a fighting game tournament in a long time. Been great seeing a lot of these streamers morph into real fighting game players.
Huge shoutout to the people who actually go out of their way to improve the scene. There is no small amount of FGC heads that will complain about things but there are so few people who actually push the scene forward. Max has probably brought more people in then anyone else. Spooky kept the tournament scene going for so long no matter how much work, no matter how popular or unpopular it was he did it for the love of the game. Sherry Jenix saw that it was hard for people to get work visa's for competitors and put together a whole setup to enable that. And Sajam has always talked about things that needed to improve regardless of the consequences to him, he's always willing to try to push the scene forward in new ways. He talks about ways to make events more fun, he breaks down commentary and content creation and really makes you believe that if you want to do something just go out and do it.
This show taught me that if you procrastinate your homework, realistically you won’t get anywhere in the finals. 😂 Those who were streaming every single day for tekken were significantly performing better
I loved seeing Porcelain Maid play. He got a bit down partway through the tournament from winning one round and losing the match nearly every time. He had the moment of "wait was I actually playing well?" When he saw a lot of people were getting 2-0ed
I've only seen from Lily's perspective and, as someone who has never watched Tekken before and not really into the game, it was still super hype watching her and her team. She seems to be hard on herself, but I thought she was doing super well. And she's played for like a month, maybe less? Crazy. Time to see what I'm missing with the commentary.
Honestly, Lily is soooo good for her time in the FGC space. The fact that she's hard on herself is what makes a great FG player. I cannot wait to see what she's going to do if she keeps going!
Steve talking about Obama, my brain went to Barack Obama, and forgot that he was talking about MAJIN Obama. Me, internally: “when did Steve get close to the president?”
This has been so awesome to see. Hope all the contestants are having fun and generates even more continued interest in Tekken. Hope you and the team all will feel rewarded by the fruits of your labor. I wonder for the Round Robin session, since it's more about having fun and gaining experience, and a lot of people may be coming to see particular streamers, since they're already paired by tiers, if it'd be more beneficial to swap the player order every Round Robin round so everyone for sure gets their time (and so maybe lower level players don't always feel that pressure first.) Maybe this is more for clippers, but I'd love to see training montages. Excited to see how things shake out on Sunday!
Sajam!! I'm a Rosemi fan I wanted to thank you a lot for this tournament I discovered a lot of fun people and I really like seeing thekken matches, and I wanted to thank you for inviting Rosemi and victoria, i hope to see more tournaments in tbw future!!!
I watched the entire event live and I'm going to let the entire video play through at 0.25x speed for maximum engagement because this event is awesome and should get more views. Can't wait for part 2 on Sunday
Shoutouts to super smash bros. Coney really was the mvp. Not a single soul was prepared for this man going OUT OF HIS WAY to find the Quickest path to victory with absolutely NO shame. Most of the rounds he won he won with only 5-6 attacks. Not combos, just 5 to 6 successful hits
Yeo Sajam, I've been on the fence about picking up Tekken 8, and even after watching T7 at evo last year was unsure. This tournament is so freaking hype and is showcasing so many characters and play styles that I'm absolutely picking this game up! Thanks for putting on this tournament, it's such a blast!
Missed the stream cuz of work + RL plans, thanks for uploading the vod! This event is soooo hype man. Been watching Coney train and some of Phi’s vids coaching, I love the storylines and training arcs culminating up to these matches 🔥
the slime vs connor match was so insane, I was losing my mind seeing connor who barely played do some wild shit, before seeing slime adapt crazy well in games 2 and 3
Seeing these big names in the stream space get into a fighter and actually put the effort Is so cool. They all show some understanding of the basics and even some conditioning and mental play. Shout out to the coaches as well! Also big shoutout to Sajam and Tasty Steve, to have real professional commentary on this, and to do what they do and be hype for these "Newer players" is what makes the FGC what we are. Thank you for all the hard work and persistence to make this happen (Players and everyone behind the scenes)
Love the commentary from Tasty Jam. Specially the joke about the llamas. The anecdote about Tasty Steve being mistaken for Kendrick Lamar was also funny.
Great matches! overall great event. Thank you for holding and commentating it w/ TastySteve! I had so much fun watching these matches and I used to play Tekken a long time ago. It's still so fun to watch!
Seeing that Scarra and imaqtpie fight is exactly why everyone should play. It's kinda weird to think that you would prep for a tournament and theoretically don't get to play at all, especially when it's for fun and to highlight the players and not really for the prize (which I didn't even know there was one until the day of). I think that's why they had the points system in the CR Cups, from what I remember, so there was always a reason for everyone to play because you could make a comeback. It would suck if it happened to you, but it also puts more pressure on the better players than the newer ones.
I find that the fighting in this game is most intuitive and natural you can get. Melee second only because it’s much harder to truly master it. Your characters in this game have so many options because the fighting, when done in the highest level, is really about feeling. I think Hwoarang really exemplifies this. I’ve never been so confident with a fighting character in any other game. The things you can do with his kicks alone. Amazing.
Lily was so nervous that she literally shook. She was so competitive in the first two matches despite being ranked far lower. So close. She ran out of energy towards the end. She did some practicing today to work on a couple things, so look forward to her improvement tomorrow.
NGL this is kinda more entertaining than the usual tekken tournaments. Everybody is swinging and not playing too much neutral. I know it has to be that way if anyone wants to win. Im just saying I find this kind of level more fun.
I'm not sure what to highlight here, this whole tournament is great! Shout-outs to the first Alisa in the second set; lost the on-stream match, but hit a fantastic couple clips with the boosters and chainsaws. That's the energy I want to bring to my Alisa gameplay. And Seanic made me want to try Lars! And I'm not even halfway through this vod yet!
2:32:43 This round hurts so much to watch. Literally Justin Wong is just trying to activate heat and PhiDX is clipping the startup over and over. Justin tries to mash heat, then he tries to delay and then heat, then he tries to block something and then heat, and literally he just loses every interaction. Feelsbadman.jpeg
This commentary duo is GOATED because Tasty Steve can go "Uh uh uh, uh-uh UH" and Sajam would respond "You're so right Steve, he got that combo."
It's like the reverse of when I match Steve with a Japanese commentator in sf6 lol
"Me like klondike bars".
But fr the whole reason I’m hype for this event is just how much of this duo we get. These guys are just the best of the best
next match time ⌚ ⌚??
Man only thing missing is TKBreezy
Scarra and qt playing regardless of the rules is the most fgc shit i've seen and i love it. "Fuck the tournament. WE PLAYIN'"

Love Mattman’s Jack, that was genuinely wild.
The steve duo returns, inventing tournaments just so they'll never run out of commentary gigs
Loved seeing all the drip/cosplay! The customization is sick in this game
Honestly proud of the progress of these peeps, especially Afro. Man went front not even knowing how to do a whole combo to being a comeback king.
