I adore this song as a female powerhouse number, but this quiet more subdued version really hit home. It also made me happy because I can actually sing this version.

I've listened to a few different covers of this song, and Andy's definitely is my favorite (likely partly because its the first version I head), but also because... I feel this version perfectly captures that lost feeling you have after someone dies, that almost numb feeling as you try and figure out how to live and adjust with this person being gone. I feel it perfectly captures that fake-happiness, where you feel such a deep sadness that you try and force yourself to be happy and it almost works but no matter what you just have that deep sense of sadness under under all the smiles.
Idk if that makes sense, but thats kinda just how this made me feel.

Would love to hear Andy sing in person. He's got such a beautiful, calming voice. Sadly I live in Vancouver BC so I doubt that'll ever happen. If he comes back to film The Flash at any point I'll hopefully get to say hello.
I've started collecting versions of this song, and while my favorite one is Kait Kerrigan's performance, each one has something distinctly special about it. In Kerrigan's version it's the fragility of the whole thing, like she's on the burst of tears at any moment. In Lauren Samuels' version it's the slightly manic power behind it, especially the part about not writing her eulogy. In this version the part about some days going so fast and some so slow just kills me in the best possible way. What a good song that it can be performed with such emotional range and every time hit something deep inside me.
But have you heard Rachel Tucker's version??? I'm utterly obsessed with it. In my opinion it's the rawest and most gut-wrenching, undercut by this howling nihilistic horror. Especially at the crescendo to "GODS". I first watched it at like 4am on a sleeper train from Edinburgh to London and was literally weeping by the end. Ridiculously powerful!
Oh my favorite is Emma Hunton's. When she's talking about the 15 year olds, she just looks like she's about to break, and she just portrays vulnerability so perfectly.

"Do you remember how we used to read, Rilke, Joyce?" suddenly became accidentally funny for me since Andy played Hanschen in Spring Awakening (specifically, blond Andy). In the Czech version of (the original) Spring Awakening, "Hanschen Rilow" got changed into "Jenda Rilke". Yeah. Not kidding.
