The second season of NBC's Smash featured a fictional new Broadway musical called HIT LIST, written by characters played by Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, American Son, The CW's 'Supergirl') and Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening, Les Miserables, The CW's 'The Flash'), and starring Krysta Rodriguez (First Date, The Addams Family, Netflix's 'Daybreak'). Recording artist and viral TH-cam star Carrie Manolakos (Wicked, 'The Greatest Showman') recorded the demo versions for many of the "Hit List" songs and plays the role originated on-screen by Katherine McPhee, who was unavailable for the concerts.
The fictional musical opened at Manhattan Theatre Workshop and then transferred to Broadway, opening at the Barrymore Theatre and winning seven Tony Awards. HIT LIST the musical received its actual world premiere performance at 54 Below on December 8 and 9, 2013.
HIT LIST, a modern fable about identity and the price of fame, tells the tragic love story of a wannabe pop singer who transforms herself to become a star and the hidden songwriter she uses to get there -- but at what cost?
A note from the Music Director: this video is a rough edit I did in December of 2013 to share the footage with my family. I generally prioritized the takes that were strongest musically and contained the correct lyrics. The footage is presented in its raw form, and without the attempt to mask transitions. I hope you can enjoy the energy of it still this way - it was a magical run for all of us, and I am glad to trust 2013-Ben to pick the takes he liked best, rather than diving back into the footage!
The HIT LIST BAND featured Benjamin Rauhala (Piano/Synth/Conductor), Charlie Rosen (Guitar), Shannon Ford (Drum Set), Alisa Horn (Cello), Dennis Michael Keefe (Bass), and Hiroko Taguchi (Violin).

When Jeremy sings The love I meant to say, it just shatters my heart. The 1st time it broke me was when he sang it on Smash in tribute to Andy’s character who had just died. His voice just rips my heart out when he sings those devastatingly sad songs.
😭😭 this was my favorite thing when I watched season 2 (especially in the height of my Jeremy Jordan obsession) and I STILL hold out for a full broadway production but I am so glad this exists. Thank you, Benji!!!

When Smash was on Hit List did not make any sense to me..Loved the songs though. NOW after watching this it finally makes sense. Thank you!

I'm a nurse in the city, in the past month I've found myself often walking through an empty hell's kitchen, it's not on my commute...I just walk aimlessly from the hospital until I feel like I can start heading home... to brooklyn. Start the whole decontamination process & try to act human thing...
I walk past the places I used to go, in "normal" times, to commiserate on our seemingly, lousy days. I look at 54/below and just stop and stare.
It's 4am and like most nights I'm still up by myself, watching videos.
it's impossible to leave things at work, zoning out watching these videos are the best hours of my days, and who needs sleep.

You posted this literally the same day I finished watching the entirety of Smash, so excellent timing! And learning that Joe Iconis wrote "Broadway, Here I Come" explains why it gets constantly stuck in my head.
About halfway through, I got so distracted by JJ's eyebrows that I couldn't focus on anything else anymore. There's a whole other life happening in those, I swear.

I'll be honest, this show always seemed hit or miss to me in Smash but this concert makes me see it for what it really is- really enjoyable if imperfect. I also adore some of the songs we never heard on the show. Haddonfield (15 years later) is freaking awesome.
