The reason why this b-roll is still compelling even though it's the same "old fashioned cinematic b-roll" is that the camera movement is at least somewhat motivated by the subject. That way it feels more progressive than "I had no idea how to link these two clips so I did a whip pan".
And of course the sound design was another driving factor combined with the lighting.
