  • Headcam video from the orienteering part of a military 3-event competition.
The terrain, close to Oslo airport Gardermoen is quite unique here in Norway with almost zero contour details. Combined with partly very low visibility this required precise compass running, further complicated by windfalls which in several places forced me away from the direct line.
    System setup:
GoPro 11 Black in Action (max field of view) mode
Garmin 735 Forerunner to record the track log
QuickRoute to edit/tweak the track log and determine control punching times
Avidemux to merge the GoPro video parts together, trim the end points and extract audio and video to separate files.
OrientView merges the video with the track log from QuickRoute and generates a silent video
Finally ffmpeg is used to merge the silent video with the original audio.

Nice little run. Yeah we had an event once where three controls had the clue “Good Luck”! They were in some very non-descript wooded areas. Thanks a lot for including the procedure and tools You used to create and compile the video. I am just starting to headcam after only for the last year doing route tracks, and want to also learn how to combine for uploading.

Man the map makers need to go in there and do some major rework before the next event. The missing track/ride before 2…the huge open area before 3 shown as forest?

The race map actually included the ride before #2, but not the master I used to draw my course. Otherwise they were practically identical.
I agree that the map does require some serious updates, but that's pretty typical for these military events with amateur course planners.
