  • The water pump on my 2008 AC Thundercat started to leak, so I ordered a rebuilding kit (p/n: 0437-068)
Here are all the steps that I've done to rebuild the water pump:
    Step 1
Remove the hose clamps from the water pump, then remove all 3 hoses.
    Step 2
Remove the 2 cap screws securing the water pump to the crankcase, then remove the water pump.
    Step 3
Remove the 3 Torx screws securing the water pump cover, then remove the cover.
    Step 4
Remove the E-clip from the impeller shaft, then remove the impeller from the water pump assembly.
    Step 5
Put the water pump with the flat side down, then using a flat-blade screwdriver with its head bent to 90°, place the curved end down through the bearing and against the backside of the mechanical seal, then easily tap it from side to side using a hammer (instead of the screwdriver you can use the special seal driver from the tool kit p/n: 0444-258)
    Step 6
Using the same screwdriver, hook the curved end onto the backside of the rubber oil seal and pull the seal from the housing.
    Step 7
Gently drive the new oil seal into the housing until seated (the spring must be positioned downward or toward the backside of the water pump housing).
    Step 8
Remove the ceramic seal from the backside of the impeller using a small flat-blade screwdriver.
    Step 9
Apply a thin coat of coolant to the outer surface of the new ceramic seal and press it into the backside of the impeller. (make sure its marked side is positioned toward the rubber cup).
    Step 10
(Make sure the surfaces are clean and don't have any oil residue) Apply a light coat of Loctite #609 (another equivalent is loctite #603) to the surface of the mechanical seal that seats onto the bore of the water pump. Instead of Loctite I used REINZOSIL and it worked great.
    Step 11
Place the mechanical seal into position and gently tap it down into the housing until seated firmly against the flange.
    Step 12
Apply a thin coat of grease to the impeller shaft, then slowly twist the impeller clockwise and push the impeller into position.
    Step 13
Very important!!! In order to expose the E-clip groove on the impeller shaft, pressure must be applied to the impeller area with your fingers. When releasing the impeller (without the E-clip in position) the groove should disappear into the bearing housing. This will ensure the impeller and seals are installed properly. If the groove does not dissapear into the bearing housing, it may be necessary to replace the impeller shaft assembly (p/n 0813-035)
    Step 14
With the impeller installed, install the E-clip onto the shaft on the backside of the water pump. (Once the E-clip is installed, there should be spring pressure between the E-clip and the bearing surface).
    Step 15
Install new O-ring onto the water pump assembly.
    Step 16
Lubricate the water pump cover O-ring seal and install into the cover, then install cover using existing cap screws.
    Step 17
Place the water pump assembly into position on the engine, making sure the pump shaft is aligned with the engine driven gear shaft.
    Step 18
Secure the water pump assembly to the engine using existing cap screws, then secure all hoses using the hose clamps.
    Step 19
Loosen the water pump bleed screw then pour coolant into the radiator. When coolant starts to flow from the bleed hole tighten the bleed screw, then continue to pour coolant into the radiator until full.
    Step 20
Start the engine and run until the thermostat opens, then turn off the engine and check for any coolant leaks. Allow the engine to cool, then remove the radiator cap and fill the radiator with coolant.

A no spill funnel is a great way to keep from spilling coolant all over.

Thanks for sharing your video. Couldn't find the part # for the kit any where until I watched this.

My 2011 attic cat 1000 prowler has a leaking pump. Would this part number be the same? The pump looks identical

According to the parts manual, the water pump part # for my Thundercat is 0813-090 (Replaces Part#: 0813-036, 0813-056). If your water pump has the same part # then I suppose this repair kit should work for you too.

So I have done some research and it appears that my prowler and your ATV has the same pump. I was wondering where you bought your water pump kit ?
I’m having such a hard time finding just the seals. Everyone wants to sell me the entire pump as a whole unit.
      Thanks for the help

6:00 is it really neccessary to put this stuff on the seal !??

Not really neccessary to put that exact stuff on the seal, you can use something else equivalent, as I wrote at 5:54
I can't tell you if that mechanical seal can be installed without that silicone applied to it. The instructions said to apply it so I did. :)
