CFA vs CFP - Comparing Difficulty and Content

- I'm excited to get to speak about the differences I found between the CFA program and the CFP programs. Both the CFA and CFP exams are difficult but can be beneficial to a career. These are my opinions on the difference in difficulty between these 2 exams, and how they can be best applied. Which finance designation should you go for? Check out my advice on this, and a couple tips to pass on your first attempts.

Great insights AJ! Watching this as I finish up studying Level 1 FRA. One of the reasons I want to tackle CFA first is like you mentioned it’s makes it easier down the road if you do want to do the CFP.

Hi AJ, Top video! Could I request a video on the IMC programme? It’s the baby sister of the CFA provided by the same institution, but easier to obtain quickly and still allows myself to be a member of the CFA institute. I feel the qualification could be used to get my foot in the door in the FS industry. Then later on I could specialise in a more complex qualification. Many thanks!

Not a bad idea if you want to be a trader! I know some CMT people who speak highly of that program.

I did the licenses before these exams so they weren't a factor.

Just finished my masters in finance need to undergo one of the two not sure which one. I prefer ultimately to own my own business and become self employed so perhaps cfp.
Yea if you want to work with retail clients, the CFP is likely better!
AJ great video, I heard on another one of your videos that you would recommend that anyone looking to complete the CFP as quick as possible to do the CHFC to be eligble to sit for the CFP exam. Do you know if this is still the quickest way?

Any idea how to get the hours for the CFP if your day job doesn't include the CFP activities? I'm considering this field as a side gig & something to leverage even more as retirement comes closer.
Hmmm, good question. My guess is that you are just required to work in some full time job that does count towards their experience requirement for them to ever give you the letters.
CFA is 10 times more difficult than CFP according to this video.
I'm registering for Level 1 May session, will there be enough time to study? I will have 6 and a half months! A lot of people told me that it's not doable and I should consider registering for August since I'm a fresh graduate who wasn't that good at college, but now I have both motivation and time!
What do you think would the realistic decesion?
That is plenty of time if you get in 3 good hours each day!
Currently 30yo math and fin undergrad, masters in financial services. The CFP material looks relatively easy due to my experience in the field. I am curious if I pass servicing my book to someone if I can pass the CFA in one year if I just exclusively focus on it.
No, you can't take the exams that often.
I'm in the insurance industry and pretty new to finance in general but I want to gain more knowledge to help create better value for my clients. Would you recommend CFP or CFA. Or are these designations not useful for the industry.
The CFP is great, but its overkill if you are just going to do insurance. BUT if you want to get into broader financial services, go for it!

Pls share which university in Canada provides certification for cfa and cfp and what’s the cost involved for both the cases.
Neither the CFA or CFP are taught at universities. They are both administered by their respective organizations.
