- What a TREAT! My daughter Shelley is our guest tutor in this video that shows you How To Create And Manage PLAYLISTS in TH-cam.
Playlists are the closest thing we can get (as of now) to "Channels Within Your Channel" (or Sub-Channels), but figuring out how to create or manage them is sometimes confusing.
This video shows you a truly easy way to create playlists, and to manage them after you have created them.
Let us know (in the comments below) if you'd like me to have Shelley do more tutorials here. It won't be as often as we might like, however, because she lives a full day's drive away!

Thank you so much, @neserdoryrajoo7312! As you might be able to tell, I am an educator at heart and I always (especially in my videos) try to figure what questions there might be, and answer them. Starting in the middle of a procedure is never productive, but it seems many video makers seem to think it's okay.

What about adding subfolders to Playlists? I haven't found that yet. Piano - Blues - Songs - Techniques, etc. (so they're not all just under one label Piano)
I've been searching for that also. Sadly, they won't permit it (yet?) and turn a deaf ear to pleas to add it. Sigh.

Is it possible to make hierarchical playlists, say Math at the top, then Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Differential Equations underneath. I want to populate each of these four playlist with many videos. Right now, I have 60 playlists, but I would like to organize them, so that I only have 12 at the top, and subplaylists underneath.
I just the other questions below, looks like it is not possible at the moment.
You're right - not possible at the moment. I have submitted several queries and requests to TH-cam about this very thing, but so far, crickets.

A quick question, do saved playlists add to storage data used on your smartphone? Keep in mind I have not downloaded any TH-cam videos, but I do create playlists of favorite videos, a lot of music, I have different music playlists sorted by music genres (types). Will TH-cam playlists deplete my storage? Thank you. Jim
Hi, Jim - unlike many people, I do not live on (or even function on) my phone, so I really don't know. However, since your phone only displays what's on TH-cam for all the stuff you "save," I would GUESS it does not use up your phone storage. It's all in YT's cloud.
I'm watching recipes on my phone (on TH-cam) and wanted to save them. I hit the SAVE button under the video and named a folder for them. Do I have to have a private TH-cam channel in order to refer back to them and watch? Help please.

Can we create a sub-list within a playlist? E.g. I've a cooking playlist, within it, I may organize it to air-fryer, eastern, mixer, soup etc.?
I’ve been trying to figure this out.
I've really tried hard to find this out. And as near as I can tell, there is no way TH-cam will let you do that. The only thing I could suggest is to make several playlists, with the MAIN topic as the first keyword, then drill down from there. For example: FOOD-Air Fryer Vids; FOOD - Eastern Cuisine; FOOD - Soups, etc. I wish there were a better way, but if there is, I haven't been able to find it.
@@DavidsTutorials Understood. Thanks for trying. I'm using exactly the method you mentioned. It seems to be a relatively simple feature for TH-cam to add, but somehow it hasn't risen up enough in priority. If I use the prefix-naming method, soon, I'd have a proliferation of playlists. And they don't seem to be sorted alphabetically, which means they'd be scattered on my top-level play list.

Maybe I'm just not hip enough, but TH-cam and TH-cam Music are very difficult sites to navigate. You would think that a company like Google who gets more than a billion views per day would know how to design simple navigation controls. If you don't know about a key piece of information, like what people thought of your playlist and how many people viewed it, you are left stranded.
I often find myself wondering if they often shuffle "who's in charge" there, and the new person in charge has to MAKE CHANGES just to leave his or her mark and show they actually DO something. Me, I'm of the opinion "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I agree show he’s easy to follow because you actually can pause to think about what she saying. People who talk very quickly don’t allow you time to process the procedures.

Hi Shelley & Dave. Great tutorial. I am in Singapore. 80 yrs old and just started to watch TH-cam on Android phone. Great Lesson 👍. I have created quite a lot of playlists for future watching and reference. But I cannot locate some of the plsylist, although I can still call them up when I want to SAVE a video into that playlist. So it is still within my youtube channel... but how or where to locate them lster after saving videos ❓... cannot find some of them. Now is Nov 2021. Thanks & Looking forward to your guidance.
Thanks for your comment, and congratulations on staying so active into your eighth decade. You're only about 5 years ahead of me, so I can identify with the challenges. Sadly, TH-cam either doesn't allow or doesn't tell us how to sort of find our existing playlists - not that I have been able to find. Good luck, and if you learn how to do any of this, let us know.

Hi, 1st Name, and no. I have repeatedly asked YT about this and no answer from them; I have searched diligently, and so far have been unable to find a way to sort playlists. Let's hope the YT engineers give us the ability soon.

I saw the comment asking about nesting folders inside folders and you wrote what apparently everyone else has, that TH-cam doesn't offer that even though we, the masses, keep asking for it.
What about changing the listing order of our playlists? Looks like the same easy to fix problem that Google could care less about. Any new info. you all might have? or are we all just still stuck with a listing of our playlists in the order we first created them? Thx.
It's been a LONG time since I've edited my playlists, but I'm pretty sure I remember that on a certain page, you can drag the vids in your playlist to put them into the order you want. But they don't make it easy to get to that page.

I have too many playlists and too many videos in each playlist. Can I create layers/folders for my playlists and videos? For example I want to categorize my playlists into "movies", "food and cooking", and "sports". I also want to create groups under a playlist, say "violin", into "performance" and "teaching". Is it possible?
I've been begging TH-cam to give us this capability for a few years now. So far, it seems they have more important things to do. Oh, well.

I work hard to keep my playlists current and up to date. I delete all videos that have been removed by TH-cam and the users themselves. If I remember which video was removed, then I'll replace it. I will also check my playlists before I decide to add new videos to so I don't have any duplicate videos

The video is helpful, but you did not specifically mention how to change the access status of videos on your playlists from the default setting of "public" to "private" or how to grant access specific people. Thanks for taking the time to make this video - you are a natural teacher.
Thanks, 98. I'm not sure you CAN change the access status of playlists, but you CAN do it from your video's edit screen. Sorry, I don't know the rest - YT is often a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
How Can I organise the Library that my playlist live in, they are all over the place, would be very handy to easily find a specific playlist, if they were alphabetically listed, I donate mean the content in a play list, but the play list itself

Hello, can you tell me how to organise my playlist library in alphabetical order on windows 10 on PC? I have created many topics/labels , when I try to save a video I like on my Playlist, I have to scroll sooo many labels, sometimes I can't find them! Ah..gets gets frustrating😖! How is it that on my Android phone, the labels are beautifully organized in alphabetical order and NOT on windows PC?? much thanks!

Thanks for the video. I have never had a problem with my playlist. A few days ago I had a total of 20 playlists, public. For some reason now 10 of those are no longer visible to the public. I can't see them on any of my other accounts but I can see them as remaining public on the account which they were created on. Any idea what has caused this? any idea how to fix it?
Aaahh, that sounds frustrating. Sorry, I have no clue about that. I'm not sure ANYONE can fathom the inner workings of YT or their reasons why they do things.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I've done some digging into this, and as near as I can tell, the ONLY way YT allows us to organize our playlists is by playlist. No folders, no sub-channels, nothing. They don't even make a distinction between playlists of videos we have created and playlists of other people's videos we like. The only way I have found to keep them organized is to be VERY CAREFUL in naming those playlists. Of course, there MAY be a way to organize them better, and I just haven't found it yet. Let me know if you find it.
@@DavidsTutorials I think GameSkiller tries to explain how in video that is 2:54 minutes long titled How to Arrange You Tube Playlists 2017... I couldn't do what he suggests because I couldn't locate the "add a section" button. I don't make my own vids, just save others' but would like to organize them into folders of a sort. I have several that I would like to categorize under "health", several under "polymer clay", etc. Each of these primary categories will have a dozen or more playlists related to main category but each a different subject related to main category. Just trying to streamline my playlists. There must be a way.
@@kaygustin7032 That's why I came here. I have so many playlists and many are related to the same topic. It's getting to where I don't know which playlist to put what in or what playlist to look for what. I thought about going through and cleaning out some of my playlists, renaming playlists with more detailed titles, and moving some playlists into others. Then again, that seems like alot of WORK. WORK that would take alot of TIME. Lol! Time that should probably be spent on much more needed things. So I've also thought of just deleting most of them, only keeping what I really really need for reference, and starting over. This time being more diligent about what I keep and being very accurate in how I name my playlists. This time using the notes sections. However, It would help if you could refer to the notes sections as you were saving videos to your playlists. I guess these are the types of things that are supposed to be addressed in their reviews. How else are the developer's supposed to know what we want?

That would be a great addition, but I don't think they have that capability. It would be great if YT had a suggestion box.

When I share a video, I do so in an email by sending a link. This way I can add as much commentary as I want.

This is so confusing to me. I am trying what I feel is a simple task. I have a TH-cam channel with existing TH-cam videos from others TH-cam channels. They are on my playlist. I want to categorize them and put them in their respective playlist name. I also added 2 videos and there is a playlist that says "0" videos. If I delete the one that says; "0" videos will it delete the two new videos I added? Is each video considered a "playlist?'
I'm so sorry, Fred, but the way YT does playlists (other than what we said in this videos) is pretty much a mystery to the public. I've looked and looked, and have been unable to find a way to sort or otherwise manipulate the playlists. Maybe that will change in the future? (But let's not hold our breath.)

I had a question about saving a video to my playlist , when i click save and the drop down box appears , not all my created playlists are displayed , some of them are missing and i am unable to save the video to the playlist i want as its not showing up in the dropdown box.These missing playlists are however listed in the library but they dont show up in the drop down box while saving , any ideas on how to fix this ?

Big question. How can I have my existing Playlist come up alphabetized? I have 301 playlists with over 1,000 videos. Yes...I know, a lot, but I still use most of them. It takes too much time to scroll through to find the random non-sorted Playlist I have already set up. Thanks
I did more searching on this question, Richard, and I don't think you can do that. I even discovered they have a FILTER for your playlists, where you could supposedly put in a keyword in the playlist title that you're searching for - but IT DOESN'T WORK! I have two playlists with "Skills" in the title, but when I try to filter for that word, it finds no results. Bummer! I've submitted this request through TH-cam feedback several times, but so far, sigh, no reaction. Let's hope they get to it soon. Many people are wanting this. I have also submitted the bug report about the filter, and maybe they'll fix that, too. One can hope.

There should be a pencil-shaped EDIT button in your playlists area.
How do I change the order of my playlists? I am not meaning the order of each video in every playlist. I have a lot of playlists, and when trying to save a new video to a playlist, it is hard to find the one I want because I have to scroll through so many, I want to be able to put them in alphabetical order.
I'm so sorry, Carrie - I've asked this of YT several times but as near as I can figure, there is currently no way to do what you want. Many people want this, so I keep reporting this to YT in the hopes they will listen and do something about it. Sigh.

How would you move videos from one playlist to another? A bug in my current version/install of YT means I can't direct videos into specific playlists - it just saves them all in the one (the last selected one) playlist. I would also be interested in how to download a whole playlist into my home computer as I have found a few previously liked and or saved videos have been removed for some reason or another!
mekuranda I have the same problem. It saves to the last playlist and doesn’t give me a choice.
Go to your Creator Studio, Video Manager. Click on the video you want to change the playlist of, and on the video management screen that then comes up, in the right column below the video is a drop-down list with all the playlists you have created. Drop down that list, uncheck those lists on which you don't want this video to appear, and check the list(s) on which you do want it to appear. Boom. Done. Hope this helps.
There are programs online (use a search engine) that will allow you to download TH-cam videos to your computer. Sorry, I don't know what they are off the top of my head.
I found in a recent YT update that a long press on the save button shows all of your playlists and allows you to change where to save a video or to add it to multiple lists if you want to.

@David's Tutorials You didn't quite finish with everything that you can do, I think, and ,thus, didn't cover what I was looking for. You were right there at the end it seemed so I think I got what needed and ,therefore, gave you your much deserved thumbs up. I really like how clear and concise you are. Your video being so clear and the editing as spot on as it is with you not jumping from one area of the screen and back too quickly ,like most tutorials do, is something I really appreciate. So thank you to you and your father for making this video. By the way, that last tidbit I was hoping to find out was if I could combine some of my playlists. I'm trying to organize and do some "spring cleaning" if you will and right at the end I saw a control that says, "add all to". I think that may be what I'm looking for. It would've been nice if you had expanded and finished with what you could do with the rest of the editing functions. All in all, it worked for the procrastinator in me who didn't feel like getting her laptop out right now to see if this was even an option for when I do feel like doing it. Sadly, TH-cam has not been very friendly to people wanting to do more than just create a playlist and reorder playlists. So far, I've not found a way to do much of anything else with them. Others may know this, but I do not. Take care.

@David's Tutorials I can no longer add to my playlists. I've never had this problem before. I can edit my Created Playlists Title and Description but there is NO LONGER an option to ADD A VIDEO to my Playlists. HELP! what do I do?
There are usually several ways to accomplish what you want on a website. Here's something I just discovered - while you are on the TH-cam page with the video you want to save to a playlist, look directly under the right side of the video - you will see icons for thumbs-up, thumbs-down, Share, and the one you want - SAVE. Click this icon and it should open up a lightbox with your playlists. There you can check which playlist you want to add this video to. HTH.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't do much on phones except make calls, send and receive texts, and use the camera. But I'm sure others online can help you out.

I am not a creator of videos, simply a consumer of those that are created. I lost my original log in and password for some reason. TH-cam no longer recognizes my log in after nearly 20 years of using the same thing. I created a new log in and password, and am trying to recreate my playlists and subscriptions. None of these suggestions, and from other videos, are not working. Any ideas?
If you set up your YT account nearly 20 years ago, you should know (and probably do) that Google now owns YT. You should try logging in to your YT channel with your Google account credentials. If that doesn't work, use their "Lost your password?" feature. Hope that helps.
David's Tutorials Thanks. I did just that. TH-cam would not recognize my Yahoo email address nor let me use the Forgot Password link under the Yahoo email address. I had just used TH-cam the day before under my Yahoo email and password. I was researching for a DIY video I had seen before and saved to a playlist. Very frustrating! I’m ok if they no longer wish to allow Yahoo email, but they should allow access to my playlists and save them to my Gmail.

I have over 40 playlists & when I find a new video to add I choose the save but the list is not in alphabetical order? How can use the save option to search for the name or sort by alpha?
Use the OLD TH-cam Creators Studio (I think there's a link at the bottom of the left-hand menu of the new version), then click on the menu item Videos > Video Manager > Playlists. This will bring up a list of your current playlists, which you can then click on the SORT BY dropdown, just below the search box. One of those options is A-Z. That should do it.

Several people have asked this same question, and I believe many have requested this feature from TH-cam. But so far, we cannot do this.

And I'm wondering why on earth TH-cam would not have created that feature in the first place, or, as you have mentioned that people have requested this feature in the past, why would they not address this issue. Oh well, we sure can't make anyone (let alone TH-cam) do what they don't want to, or don't want to acknowledge. But! On a great note! There's no way to delete an empty playlist. TH-cam made it so cumbersome :/

@@DavidsTutorials there's currently not any way to delete ANY of the playlists. I added one video to the empty playlist in order to delete it but still nothing. I wonder, is that rocket science? Can't just a 15 year old kid of all those developers sneak in and add all the edit buttons in one screen?? For God shake TH-cam, I have spent half an hour here, trying to bypass this #$%@ thing! Hopeless my friends, hopeless.

Thanks, Sharon. If you read the comments on this one, you'll see that the thing most people wish for is a way to ALPHABETIZE their playlists. Sadly, I haven't been able to find out how to do that. YT is no help there.

Sorry you're missing that. I'm guessing you're using a phone and not a computer. I bet someone who does everything on a phone could advise you how to do this. My daughter (who lives on her phone) says exit full-screen, and watch in portrait (not landscape) mode and you will be able to do anything you need to. Hope this helps.

@@DavidsTutorials i did as this lady said replacing when she said playlist to folders and i created a folder. Maybe they call is a playlist, but to me this the folder i was looking for. to this playlist-folder i can put other youtube items into it....like a FOLDER. try it....

Typical bs comment because you don't understand how teaching works. Why do that, you ask? It's a pedagogical thing. Some people are field-independent learners, meaning they figure things out for themselves; and some are field-dependent learners, meaning they need someone to build the framework for them, then they learn. Doesn't make them less smart, it's just a different learning style. You can't accommodate all learning styles - you have to choose - bore some fast learners, or leave behind those who need more. Please don't excoriate creators for accommodating people who are not like you.

You can do TONS more on a larger screen. And the older you get, the more you'll find you need it. I have my laptop connected to a 27" external monitor. YEAH!

We were experimenting with a different microphone on this vid. What we use now is different than this one. And despite how many times people ask the same question, and how many times I've asked TH-cam, there is still no way that I've been able to find to sort playlists alphabetically. Sorry. You should complain to TH-cam. Lots of people request this.
