    Banjo-Tooie is technically a 3D Metroidvania, and that's why I love it. It took what the first game did, which emulated Mario 64, and gave it it's own identity with all sorts of bells and whistles (FPS sections, sports minigames, splitting up, all the transformations, and even PLAYABLE MUMBO) that only added to the experience.
    Glad to know there's people out there that love Tooie as well

      @justanotherhankhillaccount @knatkniht Banjo-Tooie is not at all a metroidvania. A metroidvania is a game that merges Metroid backtracking features and Castlevania (SOTN-like) rpg features
      And Banjo-Tooie does not do that. There is no level or experience, there are no weapons or armors, there is no deep statistics system (str, mag, agi, def, res, luck) and there is no build system (magic, physic, tank, support)
      Because of the backtracking system, Banjo-Tooie is at best a Metroid-like (and it is not, it's or an action-adventure game, an action-platform game, or a platform-adventure game)

      me too, I absolutely adore BK of course, because childhood and so on but (unfortunately) it's just "too easy" and is just too known after so many playthroughs (so almost "boring") same almost with tooie though, it (still) is more difficult though. and, because the worlds are (meanwhile just slightly) bigger, isnt that cool?! more playtime and so on (not counting the "time-wasting" stuff, that obviously/definitely could be fixed somehow nowadays!). on the other hand, why can't people just love BOTH, the same...
      P.S.: and last but not least: all the multiplayer stuff/minigames add (lots of) (re)play value! 😄

    The only context in which Banjo Tooie was "too big" was in the sense that it ran pretty badly on the N64 at times. And I still had a blast. I never felt like traversal was a chore, that's what the teleport pads are for. My only actual issue was that navigating was sometimes a bit confusing because the levels have so many interior areas that even after playing it several times I always misremember where certain entrances lead.

    Edit: Unpopular opinion: I actually think Grunty Industries is one of the better worlds in Banjo-Tooie. It's obtuse and initially hostile to navigate, but it feels intentionally designed that way, like finding easier ways to traverse it is a puzzle in and of itself. Compare that to Glitter Gulch Mine or Terrydactyland where they feel difficult to navigate as an oversight. It also perfectly compliments the changing of control with certain characters, particularly the washing machine transformation. Admittedly, a series of analysis videos by Veegie helped me in seeing the appeal behind Grunty Industries, and now I appreciate it far more now than I used it.
    Original comment:
    I miss cheat codes in video games. Some games still do them, UFO 50 is a good recent game that does something like that, but stuff like this feels, more often than not, stuff that's relegated to DLC (paid or otherwise)... or maybe a preorder bonus or some nonsense.

      @8Kazuja8 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      I played Tooie for the first time during the pandemic and I ended up being really impressed with that world in particular. Grunty Industries essentially re-contextualizes Banjo Tooie's mechanics into a metroidvania-like progression where you slowly unlock each level of the factory for each of your different states and transformations. The way you break into the factory immediately sets the tone for the rest of the level, it's essentially a big puzzle that makes you think about Tooie's exclusive mechanics in a way no other world in the game does.
      Mad ambitious level, really nothing like any of the other levels in either game. If anything I wish other Tooie levels would've tried as hard as it did, I'd say a lack of strong identity is something most weaker Tooie levels have in common.

    The bigger areas isn't what makes me lean away from Tooie... Kinda. It's the loading zones. the four million and five different loading zones. It's not that I mind walking a bit extra (well a lot extra), it's more I always wind up forgetting which loading zone leads to where, by Glitter Gulch Mines, I end up always forgetting where any one door leads to, even with the warps and all I never know which ones to use when I'm trying to find an area that I know I need to go to.. Maybe it's my shit sense of direction but I just always get way to lost, go in circles, nope, this isn't the place I'm looking for but I do need to keep in mind I need to come back with the transformation (proceeds to instantly forget) .. I think when you boil things down, Banjo Kazooie was about rewarding players for COLLECTING things. Tooie on the other hand rewards EXPLORATION with things to collect.
    The direction of the games are very different in terms of level design, but for me I loved Tooie more because as a kid all I wanted was to get lost in an immersive world with zanny and charismatic characters. I loved going to random worlds and just goofing off, even if I already completed that world. And sometimes that behavior would rewarded by finding new things about the world that only added to my immersion (such as the interconnectivity of levels and figuring out if I could go through most of the worlds without hitting Isle o' Hags or using the train once).

    The best part about these codes (other than SuperBanjo affecting Mumbo who sorely lacked a mobility option not having/being Kazooie)? They’re toggleable, which is important because certain codes make certain Jiggies harder or in the case of one transformation impossible to turn back to Banjo and Kazooie without quitting out to the title screen. Now, you have to go back to the code room to turn them on or off, but hey, better than it being stuck on and getting softlocked if you couldn’t anticipate it.

      For the invincible snowball issue, what I always did was make sure I activated the warp pad in the icicle cavern before going to transform. That warp puts you right next to a bottomless pit you can still die in, which will respawn you at the wigwam at minimum size so you can fit back inside

    • @MasterOfTrapos
      @MasterOfTrapos 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There's a little bonfire next to the wigwam for that purpose. You have to hurt yourself to turn minimum size.

    I'll be honest.
    I loved Banjo-Kazooie, but Gruntilda was a bit of a pain.
    Then in Tooie, i was getting tired by Witchyland, i already had issues with the swimming control in Jolly Roger's lagoon, Terrydactyland size did discourage me a bit, HailFire mountain crushed me, and i tried Cuckoo something something and it was brutally hard, making me fall back to grinding the other levels i didn't really like. I was please to see the fight against Gruntilda was challenging, but more manageable than the first one.
    All in all it's a mind blowing game. But the first is more manageable!

    Sadly there's no turbo cheat for the Canary Mary races. That would've made the ones in Cloud Cuckooland so much easier on the 64 version. I remember struggling so hard with them on my actual N64, but getting all the Jiggies and Cheato Pages were worth nearly breaking my thumbs over.

    I did know about the code before, but forgot for a long time. I finished a 100% playthrough last night without super banjo. I played on the xbox version. Here's a sentiment from another video I saw somewhere; treat banjo tooie like a metroidvania. You move around everywhere to get all the moves as much as possible in sections. Once you get all the moves, you can clear everything in one swoop. Yes there is some interaction between worlds, but that was the point of the game. To feel bigger. I remember playing the original on launch day and got so pumped.
    Interestingly enough magazines rated banjo tooie slightly higher than banjo kazooie when it was released on n64.

    I’ve been waiting a while for Banjo-Tooie to come to NSO and I had forgotten this cheat. I’m glad I clicked on this vid
    I think the sensitive stick could be due to the much longer stick on the N64 controller. Having a longer stick might have allowed finer control over aiming, or it could be just modern sticks are more sensitive. I don’t really know but it feels similar to aiming in Zelda OoT. Aiming the slingshot or bow feels harder than I remember back when I played on the N64

When kazooie released on switch, I was confused when the jinjos and notes reset when leaving each world, I stopped playing at the snow world because it was too much replaying to get all of the collectibles. Tooie feels way better

    To me, the big difference between BK and BT is: BK is a platformer/collect-a-thon. BUT BT could be considered a bit more like an adventure/collect-a-thon. More places to go, more cutscenes, more lore to it. People expected a BK2 but got way more than asked and felt it was a bit too much.

    I don't know there needs to be weird apologetics around Tooie. "Might be too ambitious"...no, it was just cool. It's just a good game. The interconnected worlds are neat.
    I appreciate Daniel gives the warning that this code would upset the balance in boss fights and timed challenges but...again, that's more why I'd say don't use it. It wasn't designed with it in mind. Rare added the warp pads to account for the larger worlds.
    People just need to chill and not try to go go gotta go fast minmax zoom vroom vroom optimize games. Just play the intended way.

    As for it I knew of this cheat, yes I did. Never really used it though.
    I feel it should be noted however while using this cheat in the N64 version doesn't stop you from saving there is another thing you need to be careful about. If you use too many of those cheats that you don't get from Cheato you will be warned by Grunty that your save file will be erased if you do so again... and she is NOT joking about it.

    You earned my immediate like when you said you're a fellow sicko that enjoys Tooie more. I love both games, nearly equally. But Tooie has DRAGON KAZOOIE and a functioning Washing Machine transformation.
    Also I am a huge Metroidvania fan I consider it to be in the genre, albeit with the caveat that it is first and foremost a 3D adventure platformer. But the elements of progression based abilities exists, so it's a technicality I accept.

    I don't remember if I ever knew about the cheat, but I did 100% Tooie back in the day. Just have to upgrade my online account to play both Banjo games. Been wishing to play them for so long, but unlike our old SNES that got put in the box, mom tossed the N64 and games in the trash when we couldn't sell them at game crazy.
