Just ordered. Tried it on a couple of months ago and LOVED how it looked and felt on my arm.
This watch is a fantastic tribute to G-Shock's in it's 40th anniversary. Casio kept it true to the original with a bio-resin outer case, stainless steel inner case, and a beautiful case back. The metallic dial adds a classic and elegant touch while keeping the original functions. A must-have for G-Shock collectors, especially fans of the 5000 series. It's pricier due to its anniversary status, but it's unique and worth it. This watch may look quite normal, but it's the very heart of G-Shock's legacy. Great video and beautiful cinematography, good job!

This watch is particularly the special G Shock everyone can collect, myself included. Perhaps some will be better off finding another alternative G Shocks with similar price range but with more sophisticated features (Multi Band, Solar Powered, etc.) but this is like a “love letter” to the first and original G Shock square back in 1983. Yes this is in fact my first G Shock to own and I like it as this has reaced a remarkable 40 years and the recrystallized finished is just an icing on the cake😊

For me it’s a good watch thanks to your review I buy it 😀 I really like it and I only wear it on the weekends. I did pay a hefty price of 500$ on Amazon Canada🇨🇦. I think it’s no more available but a few days ago it was. I even wrote to comment my purchase.😃
The 5000U on a combi is the way I went. It is hard for any square to top that for me as it's such a work horse - maybe my 35th GMW-B5000TFG-9JR bought NOS from Japan.
I've been eyeing the combi bracelet for my 5000u, do you think its worth the extra cost? Does it really make that much of a difference? Only one I've been able to find is in ebay for 120usd

@@ekasism I bought me a 5000U in Japan and after I got back to my home country I decided to also buy a B5600. It was the perfect decision for me because not only do I prefer the 5000U with the combi bracelet. I now also have a secondary watch that I can use for slightly more active use cases. And I like the fact that I still get to enjoy the nice material of the 5000U's strap in it's own right (but now on the B5600). Also, the B5600 has Bluetooth just in case I ever want to use that, which feels good. While the negative display on the B5600 is not my preference, I actually enjoy the variety of having both types of screens.
Basically I feel like the 5000U and the black B5600 with their outsides swapped over complement each other perfectly. Together they cover every feature and use case that I could/do care about.
Great photography 👍 I know what you mean, just changing batteries every couple of years is so simple and the watch can be put in a box when not used. The screw in case back looks nice, but will cause shearing forces on the seal that you don't get with the standard one.
as far as GSHOCK go they all are not straightforward for replacing batteries, however, the 5000 Series is one of the easier G SHOCKS to replace .

@@BraveBeaters I wear it on its own strap and find it pretty good. I put the cheaper Gs on the gw5000 strap usually, but in the case of DW5000 watches, I like to keep them original

I bought 4 years ago the all steel GMW-B5000 and then you get spoiled, no need for more squares. That one was about 425€ so offers in my opinion far more value for money.

My friend, unless they have restocked, this was sold out hours after it’s European launch, months ago. I managed to get one of the last ones from Japan through Amazon US delivered to Europe.
They are still available, here and there :)
I just bought mine. Beautiful watch. Going to swap out the strap with a knock-off combi bracelet soon.
The more I watch videos on the 5040, the more I can see it’s worth the price. It looks great and it is limited edition (currently sold out in Canada).

very nice review!!! i just picked up the 5610U but i'm so tempted to return it and get the DW-5040PG-1. I'm a little torn and maybe you can help. I love so much about the 5610U, looks, functionality, module specs, solar and multiband. It's got a ton going for it and i can't stop staring. Totally brings me back to childhood but with modern flair. But i really really really dont like how its viewing angle is so limited. I like glancing at my watch for time, but i find i have to have it angled very specifically to read anything. I'm between 2 notches on the band, one is kinda tight and the other is loose enough that i have to move the watch with one hand to get it out from under my sleeve. Both get old quickly. I'm not sure it its the caseback, but i wouldn't say it feels amazing on the wrist or that i can wear it all day no prob. It irritates eventually. I keep trying both slots to see if it breaks in better and hasn't. The DW-5040PG-1looks stunning. I love the gold screen and having the brickwork more prominent. With so many square's looking similar, i really like that this is traditional yet stands out as unique. Do you think this model has a wider range of viewing angles than the 5610U? would its screw caseback be more comfortable? Even if the band leave me between notches, maybe the caseback would make it feel better overall. I can live with it lacking solar (but it is cool) and i can always manually adjust the time with other multiband watches. But I do wish it had both. I don't use world time a ton but it sure is nice when you do, so I'd eventually miss that too. I think it's looks keep bringing me back to want this, but i would miss some of the 5610's tech. If it is better to see time at more angles, and feels better on the wrist, it might be for me. But if its the same bad viewing angle and fit it similar, i guess i should stick with the 5610. Any feedback on these questions is much appreciated and I'd love to hear your thoughts on if you think i'd like this 40th better than the 5610 based on my comments. They are very similar in design, yes :)
They needed to make the bezel flat around the whole front like it orginally was in the very first versions. It wasn't until mass production did the taper the sides and raise where it says "protection" and "g shock"

Pity that Casio still continues poor space allocation to the time digits. Wait as you get older, those are no longer comfortable to read at a glance. This is strange, because at the same time Casio has learned how to do it right in a model series AE-1500WH. However, considering that the latter is 100 m WR (I've been swimming with it regularly), perhaps that is the right replacement for the original, simple G-Shock. As a bonus, it only costs < $25.
It's true, the dial layout is smaller, also the numerals compared to the majority of models.
Great looking model, but was selling for $699 aud, the mark up here in Australia was ridiculous and a kick in the teeth for G Shock enthusiasts...
I bought mine with $200 from ebay.

I always enjoy your reviews and I am a huge fan of Casio in general and g-shocks in particular. This watch is very nice but for me, it’s overpriced for the features it has. I’m with you on preferring batteries to solar power. Well done. 🥃

I agree, it is well overpriced, you can get a better watch from CASIO at a much lower price, and if I spent up to £200 for a watch I would not be happy getting it in a basic cardboard box, which looks like it should hold eggs and not a rare limited edition watch.
You can get a pelican case and have a custom reflective logo on which would look far better. Think CASIO do some brilliant watches, but the last few years they have been skimping on the packaging!

Hi, the cam is a canon eos r7, macro and an all around one. (I am not an expert on lens) and 2 lights. Mainly it's more about experience and the way you play around with the compositions than the cameras or lights. Cheers!

I have several g shock squares and appreciate them all, but this one is definitely special to me. I ruined one by getting deep woods off on it (DEET MELTS RESIN! BEWARE) and I had to buy another lol

@@audie-cashstack-uk4881Bluetooth function is useless for normal g shock without additional function.. even one useful feature you get is phone finding, which isnt effective.. watch will disconnect automatically from phone after 15 mins.. and about the setting time easy... I dont think thats any good .. once you set your time all casio watches are very accurate.. so no need to engage in that stuff..
But if it only has solar function it will be better.. but again i think this watch battery will last very long. So its ok .
This is full metal case so the price would generally be higher than regular resin case g shock.
Still i think GW-5000 1jf model is better than this.. bit more expensive than this but worth it.
The GW-M5625 and GW-M5630 also pay homage to the original square. At least Casio put a decent module in the watch...
