Love this! I don't like tutorials that drag on with information that I won't remember and that go in details for things and builds I wanna figure out myself. But you just touch on everything essential briefly - and offer pointers to other vids for people who actually want them! Also thank you so much for still making a base game tutorial, these can be hard to come by after the DLC release.
Great tutorial! The sightseeing module could be buffed if its effect made dupes better or faster at creating dream journals, cutting down on the investment of dupes and ressources.
Much appreciated. I've tried a bunch of different methods for generation of steam. Some work better than others. Anyway, it had never occurred to me to send solid cargo containers to gas giants. I simply thought that it wouldn't be compatible with it.
I believe it should be coming back soon, but in the meantime Zari has implemented a version of it here which should still be useful: zari.rtk0.net/ProfessorOakshell/RocketCalc.html
I'm glad to hear! My plan is to cover ranching and critters in their own series once I finish the tutorial bites, which hopefully won't be too far in the future now.
Do you have any tips for calculating the fuel required without the use of that online calculator? It feels odd to me to use a third party tool without giving it a go myself first
So I wasn't actually sure and there's very little information out there but I did find a steam discussion that seems to have the answer, and it's also quite clear why you can't really hand calculate it: "The nominal range (without mass penalty) is given by the fuel mass times the fuel efficiency times the oxidiser efficiency. Fuel efficiency is 40 km/kg for petroleum and 60 km/kg for liquid hydrogen. Oxidiser efficiency is 1.00 for oxylite and 1.33 (i.e. 133/100, not 4/3) for liquid oxygen. The mass penalty is either 1 km/kg or (mass/300)^3.2 km, whichever is greater. In both cases, the mass is the total mass (dry mass plus fuel plus oxidiser). The cross-over point is when the total mass is ~4009.5 kg (=300^(3.2/2.2)). In the former case, you have range = Mf*Ef*Eo-(Md+2*Mf) => Mf = (range+Md)/(Ef*Eo-2) where Mf = fuel mass, Md = dry mass, Ef = fuel efficiency, Eo = oxidiser efficiency. In the latter case, you have range = Mf*Ef*Eo-((Md+2*Mf)/300)^3.2 This doesn't have a closed-form solution; to find the fuel needed for a given range you need to solve the equation numerically (with Newton's method, bisection, etc)."
I do have a couple of playthroughs in playlists, but they are all unedited VODs. I'm sticking with that at least until I finish the tutorial bites as I don't have time to edit down a playthrough into highlights otherwise.
Annoyingly you do need a telescope somewhere to be able to access the starmap, but once all discovered you can place it anywhere and leave it unpowered.
Very nice job i see all your videos! I recently went from atmo to petroleum engine but i have issues. It seems like the rocket cant go many miles although it has 2-3 fuel tanks full of petroleum. Please help me with the setup of the rocket.
Thanks for watching! If the fuel tanks are full then have you filled up the oxidizer tank too? They are filled 1:1, so you will need as much oxylite or liquid oxygen as you have fuel to get the maximum range out of the rocket.
Is anyone else having issues with a steam engine + solid fuel thruster? I'm trying to reach 20K distance but it seems max steam and solid fuel won't even reach the 20K distance. Should I just switch to petroleum engine?
I do want to go back and redo some of the older ones, but this one wasn't particularly one that I thought needed it. Are there specific things here that make you think it needs to be updated?
Yes the ONI assistant site is currently down, so you have to use the way-back machine or use this alternative site: zari.rtk0.net/ProfessorOakshell/RocketCalc.html

Thanks for this! I'm still on the base game and was really struggling to find a guide for rocketry specifically for the base game.
Criminally underrated channel, great video
I am playing the base game just for a while. I never thought it can launch a rocket. Wow
Well hopefully this gives you the info you need to give it a try!
Great tutorial! The sightseeing module could be buffed if its effect made dupes better or faster at creating dream journals, cutting down on the investment of dupes and ressources.
Great video. At the stage I was about to first attempt the rocketry part of the base game so most helpful.
Glad to help - let me know how it goes!
great video as always. wish something like this was around when i first started the game

Well it will only work after you've discovered the rare solids, but yes it's super helpful!
Is there any way around the calculator? its been gonefor months
I believe it should be coming back soon, but in the meantime Zari has implemented a version of it here which should still be useful: zari.rtk0.net/ProfessorOakshell/RocketCalc.html
@@GCFungusThanks!
Yet another informative video! Thank you GCFungus for the quality vids!
Good tutorial man nice and clear plus a calculator 👍
hey i found your channel really helpful when learning the game, and im wondering if you could make a guide about ranching?

Hyperinformative as ever! 👍
Do you still need to keep the telescope after you've discovered all the space locations?

Will there be an updated tutorial for rocketry?
