Man I feel that at the end. If feels so meh to pick up a meta deck and play it. Everyone knows how to play against it. Their sideboards are set up to take advantage of the meta decks. I still love the glimpse elemental. It can answer a lot of decks with its mainboard. Just fun to play. Thanks for the vid. Always interesting to see a different take vs channel fireball's list where Murk reigns supreme.
I’ve been playing Living End for about half a year now, and I struggle a lot against 4c Omnath and Yawgmoth. The main deck grave hates and responses are way heavy to give you a clear advantage. And the late game is not favorable.
I feel like the comparison between living end and rhinos is all depending on meta. I've playing rhinos for a while and it is placed in a great position at my LGS in contrast to living end! I think there is just to much of graveyard hate since most players pick up murkies on bigger tournaments. With that said though, both decks are a blast to play and I like that many decks are viable atm (to bad that most T1 decks are so damn expensive). Great content btw!
my favorite modern deck is 8-rack with Davriel (and without Urza's Saga). im a little out of touch of the current meta. last i heard the strongest deck in modern was hammertime. i however do know that Murktide is the most popular currently
my deck is technically 10-rack because it has the 8 normal racks and 2 Davriel, Rogue Shadowmages. it also has 2 Liliana, Waker of the Deads so is it actually 12-rack?
Vs living end I guess you can force them to side in their own graveyard hate if you evoke fury and evoke solitude and then flash in endurance in response to them cascading into living end, but not every deck plays all 3 of those main board. They might not immediately lose to this but it would be annoying for them until they deal with your elementals.
Thoralf "Toffel" Severin, the Mythic Champion (what-whaaaaaaaat!?) and Andrea "VEEDEO" Mengucci.. man I would love to see these two play against each other - maybe in a Pauper Veedeo matchup? :)
@@honorsquanch7044 Disagree. Most of the hate brought in vs living end is GY based like Relic, Hurce, Leyline etc where as Rhino's doesn't use the GY at all. Usually most opponents don't have much hate vs us other than removal for our Rhino's.
@@honorsquanch7044 fairs, but even if you do deal with the Rhino's the rest of the deck around it is actually decent and not full of draft chaff like LE which can and easy wins games.
This is my opinion 10 months post OP: UR Murktide. I haven’t been able to play or watch much paper magic but I think the deck just does everything you want to do in Modern format. Great turn one, hate hate hate on turn two and by turn 3 you have won, are winning, or have an easy game plan to win. Probably next closest is Amulet Titan due to its ability to poop out a whole deck on turn two, the consistency is close to great but UR Murktide is probably still marginally better. Again just my opinion, probably not 100% accurate but from my FNM’s that I do get to go to, thats my assessment.
@@caseheroes9835 Mhmm ... interesting card ... I don't think it fits in my current deck or I just cannot imagine how to use it and not kill myself ... at least until the Demonic Pact loop is not established :D But thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely take look at it!
@@mocapoable leyline is removable, but dauthi keep getting sacrified and retun on the battlefield living end, the sacrified another time to use it on your turn and repeat the process
The thing about Living End is that EVERY deck, no matter the archetype, has at least one option (or several) that completely shut down Living End. Especially after game 1, when your opponent sideboards in anything and everything to stop it. Voidwalker, Chalice, Teferi, Trinisphere, counterspells, or even just any grave hate like Relic of Progenitus or Soul-Guide Lantern on the board, and there goes your deck's primary combo. And most of those are colorless, meaning *any* deck can slip a few in the sideboard. L.E. is just not consistent enough to deserve #1 spot, in my opinion. Also, where's Boros Burn and UW Control? Those archetypes are insane against current meta.
Alot of those cards are too slow against living end , especially if your on the draw and even on the play (with a turn 2 voidwalker). They can still cycle 3-4 creatures and cast a living end in response to them (Voidwalker, Teferi, Hearse), and even if they do cast those spells you have ways to counter them for free with a FoN. They can outrace your GY hate like lantern or relic because by cycling more, or in the case of chalice or trinisphere they play the same amount of SB cards to counter them(Force of Vigor). Even so, if you spend time casting your hate cards, they can also just cast their creatures like normal which is still pretty powerful against your 1 or 2 GY hate cards that will end up doing nothing. The deck is wayyyy too consistent and gets to play 8 free spells like a legacy deck and I think its too powerful, consistent and non interactive.
The problem is that Living End has so much free interaction to stop you from interacting with you. Grief gets rid of hate cards T1 if needed, Subtlety stops Dauthi Voidwalker and T3feri, Force of Vigor deals with artifacts, and Force of Negation is free when they Violent Outburst at the end of your turn. And because they're cycling so many times per game, they're much more likely to find pieces to stop your hate than you do finding hate pieces.
Format that have been long going? You mean the new Modern Horizon block formats.... The 2 eternal formats have transferred in MH 1+ 2 blocks. These sets have have completely taken over modern AND legacy. Think about it, 2,5 years ago the best one drop was Goblin Guide $50.... Thank you wizard!
So the strongest deck is really all of them lol. I actually was overwhelmed with how many decks you can play at a high level that I actually built a deck to just play every deck by taking my opponents deck.
I find it strange for wizards to support living end when they actively banning out other decks for their claims of uninteraction or w.e its called living end can beat most graveyard hate
It's funny ... bascially his Top 5 contains all the decks he also already played atleast a couple of times , i mean he recently tried Yawgmoth once and also doesnt know the deck very well (said that on stream ) that's why he is not even mentioning it in this list :P
Right now Modern is just a worse version of legacy. 1) Modern decks are more expensive than legacy 2) Modern has less variety of competitive decks than legacy 3) Modern is similar to legacy in that games can be decided quickly except it is in a less fun way So why not just play legacy?
IDK about more expensive than legacy. Maybe a budget legacy deck, but I wonder where you can buy dual lands cheaper than shocks. Though don't get me wrong legacy is by far my favorite format.
Living end is the only reason, why i quit modern. That deck is just stupid. Literally every other deck is fun to play as or against to outplay it, Living End you just got to be lucky, that they draw shitty. Otherwise you lose. It's stupid.

Would love to see a version of this for Pauper!
I love this format, and it really nice to see mengu back
Legacy is objectively better than modern. The decks are cheaper and there is a longer list of competitive decks.
Thanks for having Andrea! His knowledge is great.
I’m just saying. The Vivien combo deck is a damn blast to play! Probably my favorite deck right now!

Sad to see no Rhinos listed even in the honourable mentions. I feel like the deck is still super well positioned from my personal opinion.

3 Abrupt Decay
4 Hardened Scales
4 Winding Constrictor
3 Corpsejack Menace

4 Fatal Push
3 Grakmaw, Skyclave Ravager
4 Darkbore Pathway // Slitherbore Pathway

4 Ochre Jelly
4 Ordeal of Nylea
9 Forest
7 Swamp
4 Managorger Hydra
