    I also was bored with the prologue but now i am obsessed with the series. I have read the whole series twice and I am reading it for the third time to participate in your read-a-thon.

    I watched the first five seasons of the show before I read the books and I’m glad I did. It really does help keep characters/houses/plots straight, and when reading the books you get the added bonus of loads of history that you’re already invested in. I adore both the series and the books and I can’t wait for your thoughts on the rest! Sansa is one of my absolute favorite characters and she just gets stronger as it goes on. She has her own brand of strength and growth that’s so inspirational. I hope she grows on you!

      I think I don't like Sansa because her personality would clash so badly with mine. She's very eager to please everybody in the beginning and fixed on presenting herself "properly" whereas I am a more take-me-or-leave-me kind of person. I feel that I wouldn't make any of the decisions that she does and so I just really don't gel with her. I am thinking that I will like her at least a little more in the books though as there will presumably be a more in depth insight into her character than in the show :)

      Becca and The Books That’s completely understandable! She does make several questionable decisions (namely not speaking up about what actually happened with Joffrey and Nymeria; that was the only instance in where I truly didn’t like her for a minute lol). Also her story takes a pretty different turn in the books compared to the show so it’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts on that aspect as well! ☺️

    I loved hearing your thoughts about the first book. I started listening to the audiobooks in January, and I'm on the 5th book now. I hope you continue to log your thoughts on the series!

    I loved this video! You summarize your thoughts so well and it's cool that you have theories and stuff and pick up on such small things, like your theory about Old Nan. Your point about the Starks being the honourable, good characters that we all root for was super interesting!! I didn't even think of that but I totally agree, they all seem to act in the way they think is just and honourable but it doesn't really work out the way we all hope...
    I think with Sansa you really have to consider the position she's in in this book after Ned dies. She's basically alone now, with only the Lannisters around her, so I think the fact that she doesn't directly act out against them is pretty reasonable. If I was in a situation where I'm stuck with the family that killed my father and separated me from my sister I'd also play it pretty safe. She went from wanting to marry Joffrey so desparately to realizing how cruel he can be in quite a short amount of time so I think her actions are reasonable considering she probably doesn't want to get too hurt while she's alone (she is only like 12 or 13(??) in this book right?). I think at this point she's just trying not to get any more hurt than she already is. She is definitely annoying in the first half of the book tho lol
    (sorry if this doesn't make much sense, i'm pretty new to writing out my thoughts 😅)

    • @BeccaandTheBooks
      @BeccaandTheBooks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You made perfect sense! I think my main problem with Sansa is that her personality is so different than mine that she really rubs me the wrong way and I've never liked her at any point even in the show. I'm hoping that I will enjoy her character a lot more throughout my read as the series as it will presumably go a lot more in depth!

    [Attempts not to be spoilery] There's some huge foreshadowing r.e. John Snow's mother in book 1 - I actually figured out who she was like... there. Where you did. So even on first read with no show it was very clear...

      I'm interested to see the differences in the rest of the series as I read through the books as I'm pretty sure they changed a lot more as the series goes in! Especially excited to find out who Lady Stoneheart is as I know she isn't in the show and people talk about her a lot regarding the books!

      That's such a good point! I've been recommending it to people who are familiar with the show and want to get into the more dense adult fantasy as they will already be familiar with the world but it would totally work the other way around too!
