I think that one thing that is very clear is that GRRM clearly is "experienced" in terms of psychedelics which explains Bran tripping on Jojen paste, Danny in the House of the undying , and basically everything with Euron, especially his winds chapter

Thanks for the readalong of ASOIAF Alex, Jimmy and Liene! I watched the run through of the first three books and decided to join up on the readalong before this episode. I therefore listened to all the five books on audio in January and February. I know that Roy Dotrice gets a lot of flack for his pronunciation of certain names, and the voices he gave the characters, but I was able to get past that and enjoy the books anyway. (I would not have been able to read all five without audio in less than two months). On this reread I found the books to be less nihilistic than I remembered (even if Jimmy has made a better argument than the usual "everything is meaningless" attitude) the first time around. I had only read the first three and watched the show, which was darker than the books, before this reread. I will probably continue with you on the journey onwards with the extended stories.
Happy to have you with us! The reread has been awesome and as much as we joke about Roy it didn't actually detract from my enjoyment of the books either. 🙂
Missed the stream but watching and it's great how you guys go into even little stuff people might go over, like the Tyrion development thing with how he treats prostitute, and multiple things like that, good discussions

I have a friend who called ASOIAF a misogynistic rapefest. Long story short, he's no longer my friend. His Watch has ended. I did warn him not to trust me.
Awesome chat! but I will not have this blasphemy about denying Tyrion's Targaryn heritage ;), I strongly feel that Tyrion is a Targaryn, here is why( don't take this as a rant btw since it turned out quite long lol): 1 His facial feature's are Targaryn, missmatched eyes, Ash haircolour closer to Daenarys and Visery's then the blonde of Jamie and Cersei. Imo this makes no sense if Tyrion wasn't Targaryn. Besides this his chapters and backstory are filled with dragon references, they could almost rival Danearys lol. I suspect the dragon has 3 heads is an 'empty saying' but if it will play a role Tyrion is definatly 1 of the 3 hehe. I don't think there is an issue with the timeline, since Tyrion could have been concieved at the wedding night, but even if it is, George isn't too good with timelines and admitted to a big error relating to the tower of joy. Maybe he leaves the option open for Tyrion being a Targaryn or not but imo he already closed the door on him not being it, still in Dance George continues with dragon references like Tyrion writing a book.
I didn't audiobook for ASOIAF. I do not like Roy's voice lol. I don't know how people like him I see that on ASOIAF forums that people think Roy is a great narrator. All his voices sound the same to me. But that's just me.

I just couldn't take it any more. Most of the others were flawed in some way, but I consoled myself with the knowledge that at least they weren't Roy Dotrice.
@@prolifik5 Dude same. People tell me "he's fine" or someone who got them into audiobooks. And I used to listen to audiobooks prior to him and Roy is why I vowed to never listen to audiobooks again until I listened to First Law and that was when I decided to give audiobooks another chance.

Then again I think Daenerys is Rhaegar's daughter so feel free to think I'm crazy lol. Did you guys notice the similarities between Bloodraven's Cave and the depths underneath the House of Black & White? There's a cool (and horrifying theory) that the Children of the Forest of Essos founded the worship of the Many Faced God. I don't think the Others have a leader in the books... yet. I think they're looking for one. My candidates are Jon Snow and Euron Greyjoy...

I love Jimmy's enthusiasm, however, it makes me sad how much he's interrupted throughout. I only noticed because he never interrupted anyone.
