It just shows what a lazy artist she is. I’ve heard her original music was well liked and had a different sound, but for some reason she said “f” It and took the easy way out.
“Attention” is different for Doja in the sense that it’s not so obviously pop radio friendly. However, a good amount of her music has some neo-soul influence. So, it really isn’t that extremely different for her. I think many considering the song “non-commercial” just shows how one-note mainstream music has become. It’s actually a fairly catchy, polished song with a pretty and hypnotic chorus. But it’s considered some major risk of a song because it’s not basic pop or a turn up song and is more than 3 minutes. I appreciate Doja for trying to switch up some of the more lame aspects of mainstream music right now.
Despite being a risk, I think it’s genius on Doja’s part. She got very popular off her mainstream music, but in her new era she brought back a similar sound to her sound cloud days coupled with some modern elements like the Kendrick style rap. Despite not being mainstream Doja is practically guaranteed to be successful with this formula. She just has to balance it out with some mainstream features on other people’s music, and release a mainstream song every so often and she’ll always stay relevant.

She just has to balance it out with some mainstream features on other people’s music, and release a mainstream song every so often and she’ll always stay relevant.

@@britniemonet_3693 I really don’t bother trying to take Doja “seriously”. She’s contradictory as hell, like many artists are, and she has a lot of ambitions and instincts and influences. She also has a lot of people pulling her in different directions. I’m just here for the music. While “Attention” really isn’t that “woke”. She’s simply calling out the people who trash others online. But it’s also almost as catchy and polished as most of her catalog. I do think she shot herself in the foot by coming at people for liking her two previous albums. But I also think she was mostly aiming at folks who want her to stay in a certain box and who criticize her over every little thing.

I love Normani so much! She's so talented and devoted. In my eyes what really makes her different from many other young artists is that she doesn't act thirsty: not for men or for attention. She has quality of a real superstar, not an insta girl who can sing. There is a big difference there.

I really love that R&B is always coming back every year stronger than the last. I mainly listen to Hip-Hop and Pop, but I grew up on R&B. I will always be down to stop what I'm doing to listen to every word and melody of a R&B track. It just reminds me of home.
