  • Which one is the bestLeica 35mm M lens for street photography?
In this video I tell you my preference among these three Leica lenses that I won:
    - Summilux 35mm f1.4 New Version
    - Summilux 35mm f1.4 Steel rim Reissue
    - Summicron 35mm f2
Join me in an in-depth exploration of the finest Leica 35mm lenses tailored for street photography, focusing on the renowned Leica M series, particularly the Leica M11P and the classic Leica M6 which are cameras I own. This comprehensive video is your guide to understanding the nuances and capabilities of three exceptional Leica lenses: the contemporary Summilux 35mm f1.4 New Version, the vintage-inspired Summilux 35mm f1.4 Steel Rim Reissue, and the versatile Summicron 35mm f2.
The essential qualities that make a lens perfect for street photography is balancing portability with pleasing image quality. We'll go over the advantages of having a fast lens like the Summilux for those challenging low-light scenes, despite often relying on zone focusing and narrower apertures around f11 in typical street scenarios.
Through real-world experiences and detailed comparisons, I reveal why the Summicron 35mm f2 emerges as the top choice for street photographers, considering factors like cost-effectiveness, availability in the pre-owned market, unwavering sharpness at various apertures, and its lightweight, compact design.
This video isn't just about technical specifications; it's about how these lenses perform in the hands-on world of street photography. I discuss how even though sharpness isn't always the priority in street photography, having a lens that masterfully combines all the best features can be a game-changer.
Additionally, I provide a nuanced comparison between these lenses, catering to the diverse preferences and needs of street photographers. Stay tuned for my follow-up video featuring a gallery of images captured with these lenses, demonstrating their prowess in real-world conditions.
If you're passionate about street photography and want to learn more about the best Leica lenses for the job, particularly for the Leica M11P and M6, this video is a must-watch. I have a few Leica 35 mm lenses . The one I enjoy using is my Summaron F2.8. It really does have that vintage look which I love and it is in silver.

That’s a sweet lens. And silver lenses with black bodies is a sweet combination.

Have you used the current Voigtlander 35mm f1.5 Nokton? I bought it to see if I liked the 35mm pov and because it was virtually the same size as the Leica Summicron. I suspect it’s all I need in a 35mm but I wondered if you thought there was any advantage in the Leica lens?

    • @GastonShutters
      @GastonShutters  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I own it and that lens just like the 50 Nokton are incredible options. Small, light, fast, well built, super fluid focus ring, affordable. I shoot a lot with Voigtlander. I don’t think this lens is better or worse. The summicron tops at f2 where as the Nokton is faster. In many scenarios I would prefer the Nokton, for example for travel, so I can be covered in low light situations as well and have the added light gathering/ shallower depth of field.

I bought the 35 lux II and absolutely love it, but the summicron keeps calling me for its tiny size.

Agreed with that. Try the Nikkor 50 f1.4 for the 50’s. I’m going to do a review about that lens. Super small and has close focus. Incredible bokeh. 23 blades aperture. That lens was too early for its time.

uh, $1800 for a 35 summicron asph is a ridiculous steal; bordering on scam territory.

eBay. When you see the make offer button that’s where this deal can happen. I’ve been buying my lenses that way. The other day I lost a bid for the Apo 75 f2. Winning bid was $875 on a lens that cost like 5K new

@@GastonShutters I've never ever come close to an experience like that at all on eBay - at least in AU. is this just a US thing???
btw - I absolutely agree with you about the summicron; as much as the FLE is a legendary lens amongst legendary lenses; the size and weight of it relative to the body just makes it not as enjoyable as the cron as a daily driver for street/travel photography. The steel rim is certainly interesting; but I'm hesitant because of the documented QC issues.

I watch the auctions. 95% 9f them I lose them but those I nail, are worth the hassle. The steel rim is a great lens. Mine needed adjustments. Other than that flawless.
