It's odd, but this theme actually feels like a spiritual successor of the original Wangan Midnight R car selection theme. The orchestral vibe and all. It would've probably still fit if the game still had that kinda vibe. But ever since the first Maximum Tune, the series has always been about Electronic Trance. Very energetic ones too.
I don't hear anything wrong about this song. "Black Pressure" was much more over the top even for a race song, omnious vocals and all, yet it still made into WMMT3 soundtrack. And let's not forget that the mysterious Latin chanting is all over the place in the anime adaptation so this song would be like at home in a WMMT game.

Call this an idea out of a fever dream but... A special Story Mode mission that you can play after completing 1000 Story Missions, which you can then replay anytime after completion. In this mission, you'll have to race the entire cast of characters, like you would during 3DX+'s 10 Outrun Mode, with the addition of the entire car selection roster (all brands AND their respective cars) on both the Shuto Expressway and Kanagawa Prefecture (59.5 & 48.7km respectively, making both courses around 108.5km long; an almost 21 minute long race). The music? A complete version of this. Would be cool but yknow, a bit over the top. But hey, a man can dream.
I'm imagining selecting a car to this tune, and pausing to think "Wow, I feel like this car selection is the most important choice I ever did in my life..." And then I would choose the car and play the game. Who cares it doesn't fit, it creates a memorable moment, and that's what classic games are made of.
