I think Credo and the other Angelos from DMC4 are some of the most cleverly designed enemies in all of video games. They look superficially like angels, but upon closer inspection you can see they have demonic faces and disguised cloven feet, their feathers are fake, and the halos are just deformed horns.
Every original DMC game has at least one demon with an angelic appearance: Mundus's statue form in the first game, Lucia's devil trigger in the second (sorta), the Fallen enemies in the third and of course the Angelos in four.
Credo applies the best for this and the beauty of that is, it's because his outward look mirrors his belief of becoming an angel, or being a force of good. Then, you got Agnus and Sanctus, the latter of whom cares none for that and both have no qualms about their appearance, but of the two, I do like Agnus's appearance. Scientist angel bug. He's a great foil, he's just underdeveloped like most of the cast and the only hints of what he could've been, were with Dante's play of Hamlet.

To this day, I hate myself have no enough strength" It's brilliant how DMC5 taken Credo as a pivotal point for Nero's Character development and this comes as a shock for most players cus it came out of nowhere and He lost the only person who's closest to an actual family to him and he's not willing to lose two more.I mean,granted Dante and Vergil won't die anyway but this is Nero we're talking about it. I appreciate Capcom for making Credo relevant in DMC5 rather than turning him into some disposable filler character.
It's rather telling that Credo does look legitimately angelic despite what is very obviously demon energy pumped into his body. It makes for a contrast to Sanctus (blood red eyes, horns growing out of his back) and Agnus (classic demon horns on his head, constant hunching forward). This likely reflects how he's the only senior member of the Order who isn't a world-conquering megalomaniac, genuinely believes his church is still benevolent, and is only fighting Nero because the latter was framed. He's no goody-two-shoes, he has MASSIVE hangups about Nero even before the frame-up, but even then it's rather telling that he threatens Nero with arrest rather than death
He was the perfect foil to Nero, like Dante and Virgil, which is most definitely what the creators were going for. Credo and Nero even have a brother-like relationship having grown up in the same orphanage together. And like Dante and Virgil, they put family above anything else.
And the only way Credo can arrest him is by beating his ass, cause we all know Nero is tough to put down He seems very straightforward when it comes to his family

Law of inverse boss size in DMC, the bigger the boss, the easier it is, so after the humongous Berial, the enormous Bael, and the even bigger Equidna, this small guy was a beast to defeat on dmd mode.

That was MPV moment for me, I was both shocked and EXTREMELY happy that they actually didn't forgot our best boi entirely (unlike Nero and Kyrie totally did in DMC 4 ending bruh).
"No Credo, what you've become is a demon!" This fight was really awesome. I wish they'd fleshed out the Nero/Credo rivalry a bit more but nevertheless this fight was still my favourite in the game.
Nero and credo were never rivals Nero looked up to him because of how kind he was to know and treated him as if he was his brother the only reason Nero was part of the order of the sword was because of credo and kyrie
Tbh they weren't rivals and had a good relationship, which I suppose wouldn't be 'as cool' as a rivalry on-screen, so they just sort of made their interactions minimal. Credo was only so furious with Nero because he'd been convinced that Nero was doing...well, the bad stuff that the demonpope was actually the one doing. He's very...very loyal, so he was unfortunately easy to rile up this way.

A cool detail too with Credo is how over the course of the fight his mannerisms change. At first he’s proper and appears in control and has an air of authority. Then a bit into the fight he gets a bit more annoyed with Nero, and his animations are a bit less composed. By about 1/4th of his health left (maybe a bit more on DMD) he’s completely disheveled, his walk has gone from this high and mighty ‘I’m your captain’ style to just kind of angrily pulling himself towards you, his shoulders are constantly fidgeting, he holds his sword and shield down more, and even his voice lines are clearly more tired and pissed off. It’s a great bit of extra characterization.
I loved it too so much, it reminded me of Vergil in dmc3 in the final battle when he was getting more pissed, turning in devil trigger, descending his madness upon Dante by spamming judgement cut everywhere on the map screaming for his Death ("YOU'RE GOING DOWN, BLAST, BEGONE") 😂😂
I really think a player character with an arc like Credo’s could be extremely cool. A human holy warrior transfigured by demonic science into a being that can better defend their flock from the darkness. If the world truly has no angels to match the devils that plague it, man will make their own.
Credo had such a cool design, I was wishing he'd be a playable character when I saw him; I mean, Imagine going from parry, to sword combo, to a massive air combo, to a grab, then a shield bash... So much potential and plot relevance. Good thing Dante didn't disappoint him.
What I love about this boss theme is that, in my personal opinion, it perfectly represents how Nero feels fighting Credo. Unlike most other themes in the game, both boss and normal fights, this one isn't as fast paced or high octane. It's slower and sometimes creeping with how the music builds to those faster pace moments. Another thing is that for many parts of the song the guitar is either less pronounced or outright missing, showing how Nero is conflicted about fighting against the man he looked up to for so long. And when the guitar takes center stage its almost as if Nero is having to remind himself that he HAS to fight Credo no matter what his personal feelings may be.
The music also sounds like its fighting itself in a way and which one is holding the dominate position. i like to imagine that the synth angelic sounds are credo while the metal sounds is nero.
Credo, Nelo Angelo, Vergil, and Dante are all excellent bosses because you're not fighting another big monster, you're essentially fighting another player that can do all the same stuff you can.
Not just another player, but your family. Whether it be a brother in blood, in adoption, or your old man, the toughest fights are always the ones you share a bond with.

@@user-sl7ie9te5r you can 100%\closely enough replicate most of Vergil's moveset in every fight, but he has very limited ones in 1-2 so it's not that fun. This is why I really enjoy VsV in mission 20, also due to it being an actual challenge. So enjoyable to boot it once in a while on Very Hard (DMD is not fair and not very fun, I like to dramatically trade blows and, well, actually win while playing suboptimally). I really like to replicate his force edge+upper slash+up teleport+helm breaker+stinger combo in mission 20, and what is even more cool is that this is exactly enough damage to get him into "flinch-autoparry" state. And in overall being creative with your combos to get exactly enough damage for that autoparry state, but in style and not just jump cancel spam. Also not running and jumping, just like true Vergil. The only things you can't replicate in any form are his parry system and judgment cut end. What a shame not a single DMC game gave him the parry...

+CGB Dumping Ground It's because Credo is basically Vergil ultralite with slower attacks and a shield, fighting him with Vergil is literally a final boss teaching a mid game boss how it's done.
This guy was the closest thing to a Vergil fight that DMC4 has. He only walks or teleports, has summoned swords, uses very fast and carefully aimed strikes, etc... I bet they wanted to have him face off with Nero multiple times but ran out of time to design it. His AI feels kind of weak as a result, he only gets tough when he health gets down to the last 20%.
This theme song has a little bit of church-like and futuristic-like melody but nevertheless, the musical creators of this song have done an outstanding job!
I love how Credo's design makes him look like a fake angel. He looks angelic from a distance, but also has lizard characteristics. His 'halo' is demon horns that have been twisted into a broken circle. I think it's rather clever!
why do we have to face the rest of the bosses like 3 times when we just have to fight Credo once? that kinda sucks due that he is the best boss fight in the game and that this theme is catchy
ha ha yeah! especially Credo! i fought against him so many times with Nero, then i would die on purpose to fight Credo again. and it all happened on DMD difficulty xD good times though! still have it on my ps3 and PC :D (cause im a huge fan of dante and nero :D )
This song feels like such a perfect mix of Nero's punk/rock energy and Credo's holy/angelic energy. It feels like a back in forth in the song which is the best duel tracks to me. Combining aspects of both characters in an interesting way.
Over years of playing this game, i have noticed little things about this boss battle that make it a tribute to Vergil 1 from DMC 3, the setting, the spiral swords, hell even the voice actor, and just like Vergil 1 this is the best boss battle in its game.
I always loved how he was frustrated during the entire fight. Meanwhile I’m having the time of my life in the only good humanoid boss-fight besides Dante.

Sephiroth decimates, the only characters that have feats to actually fight against him are The Despair Embodied/Argosax, Mundus, either Sparda twin with Sparda(Sword) or dmc2 Dante who was hinted to have surpassed his father Mundus has shown feats that could be taken either as creating pocket dimensions or an entire universe(Pocket dimensions being more likely) in which he has created starts which puts him around the level of Sephiroth after his defeat as Safer Sephiroth, Argosax was so strong that Sparda needed help from the Matier clan to seal him, the last 3 are self explanatory

You'll find that Bianco Angelo sounds even more similar to it as well. And in this, you're fighting Angelo Credo. The Angelos in DMC4 are literally created from "fragments" of Nero Angelo. As such, the music style itself is a reference that links all the way back to Sparda, because the composer noted that Ultra violet was deliberately made to be similar to the Sparda battle theme in DMC1 to allude to the fact that Nero Angelo bears the blood of Sparda.
I always thought of this as a look back to Nelo Angelo's boss fights (primarily the 3rd one) in the original DMC Capcom really took what made Nelo Angelo so Integral to the character of Dante and ported it so damn well into Nero's storyline. Capcom is really consistent when it comes to "Battle your loved ones" in their games.
I love this boss! You couldn't use the standard "grapple-and-tank" tactics that you used on the other bosses, you actually had to watch for the tiny clues as to his patterns (and oh were they tiny!) and dodge accordingly!
Credo was always one of my favorite boss battles. He is not to hard but he is not easy either. He has the perfect dificulty level. Dante is still my favorite boss in DMC 4 but you all get my point. To be honest Vergil is the best.

credo was such an amazing character, fighting him in bloody palace as dante is AWESOME!!! I love how his sword leaves giant slash marks across the ground, too bad more bosses aren't like him.
You know, when it first came out back in 2008, I always thought it would have been cool to play as a character that possesses the enemies in DMC4 and using combos with them. It may be contrary to the style of DMC, but I like the more strategy aspect of moving from enemy to enemy since the enemies and bosses all seem to have cool moves and how hectic and fun it would be with DMC's type of combat. Remember how fun it was to play as Ganon in Ganon's fury in HW? Or playing as the Blue Mage in FF having all the monsters moves? How about taking direct control of your units in War for the Overworld? I want that for DMC!
Dante was too aggressive, sure he retreated to taunt you and acted like another player, but he never really gave you any room to combo. But Credo. He had super armour and his attacks were easy to dodge, plus he guarded as well, making the whole thing drag out more *plus* he actually clashes with you a lot more, nothing felt bland fighting him! In fact when I fought him, we'd always ended up walking in circles while he delivered some dialogue. I wish we had the ability to replay boss fights without going through the levels again.
Like my name says, I´m a big fan of dead rising, this was my first DMC game, when I listen to Credo closely in this fight, I realized that is the same Voice Actor of Frank West, TJ Rotolo! Since that moment reality punched me in the face DMC is fucking awesome and I was being an idiot for not playing them before. Now I´m a fan of DMC.

Notice how he is the only "angel" who dies peacefully, transforming into dusts of light because he did not believe in domination but rather for the great of all humanity and his sister. As far as im concerned he is a real angel and would likely end up in heaven with Sparda, not like his other "angel allies" who died a terrible death and ends up in hell.
I like how the Angelo enemies have a sort of DMC1 vibe with their music, Hell Bianco Angelo’s theme even has a remix of Ultra Violet in it at one point.
Credo is such a memorable boss not only because he can match you and predict you, but you don't ever fight him again.

Credo's Pseud-DT angelic look kinda proves the theory that the will to protect is what gave Nero's DT in DMC5 its own angelic look.

Undeniably one of the best bosses in all of Dmc, my personal favorite of 4.

+CGB Dumping Ground It's because Credo is basically Vergil ultralite with slower attacks and a shield, fighting him with Vergil is literally a final boss teaching a mid game boss how it's done.

This guy was the closest thing to a Vergil fight that DMC4 has. He only walks or teleports, has summoned swords, uses very fast and carefully aimed strikes, etc...
I bet they wanted to have him face off with Nero multiple times but ran out of time to design it. His AI feels kind of weak as a result, he only gets tough when he health gets down to the last 20%.
And then he usually is dead to one more combo

I love how Credo's design makes him look like a fake angel. He looks angelic from a distance, but also has lizard characteristics. His 'halo' is demon horns that have been twisted into a broken circle. I think it's rather clever!

The part at 1:40 was hype as fck when I first played it a year ago when I was like 17, credo had the best boss fight and theme in all of dmc4.
This song feels like such a perfect mix of Nero's punk/rock energy and Credo's holy/angelic energy. It feels like a back in forth in the song which is the best duel tracks to me. Combining aspects of both characters in an interesting way.

Over years of playing this game, i have noticed little things about this boss battle that make it a tribute to Vergil 1 from DMC 3, the setting, the spiral swords, hell even the voice actor, and just like Vergil 1 this is the best boss battle in its game.

+Pablo Delgado Credo has two wings, he just uses one as a shield, like the badass that he is.
Sephiroth decimates, the only characters that have feats to actually fight against him are The Despair Embodied/Argosax, Mundus, either Sparda twin with Sparda(Sword) or dmc2 Dante who was hinted to have surpassed his father
Mundus has shown feats that could be taken either as creating pocket dimensions or an entire universe(Pocket dimensions being more likely) in which he has created starts which puts him around the level of Sephiroth after his defeat as Safer Sephiroth, Argosax was so strong that Sparda needed help from the Matier clan to seal him, the last 3 are self explanatory
1:22 was always my favorite section of the song and I'm not quite sure why... it's a nice little down time before the loop kicks back around.
credo's fight was hands down THE best fight in this game. i don't think i've ever enjoyed a boss fight so much in my life.

Fun facts:
Ultra violet was the Theme for Nero Angelo (nelo is a typo) A.K.A Vergil.
You'll find that Bianco Angelo sounds even more similar to it as well.
And in this, you're fighting Angelo Credo.
The Angelos in DMC4 are literally created from "fragments" of Nero Angelo.
As such, the music style itself is a reference that links all the way back to Sparda, because the composer noted that Ultra violet was deliberately made to be similar to the Sparda battle theme in DMC1 to allude to the fact that Nero Angelo bears the blood of Sparda.

Just everything you did in the boss fight felt so good . From smashing his shield to tossing back his spears and grabing him!
I always thought of this as a look back to Nelo Angelo's boss fights (primarily the 3rd one) in the original DMC
Capcom really took what made Nelo Angelo so Integral to the character of Dante and ported it so damn well into Nero's storyline.
Capcom is really consistent when it comes to "Battle your loved ones" in their games.
It will be fun to fight this guy as Vergil..

I love this boss! You couldn't use the standard "grapple-and-tank" tactics that you used on the other bosses, you actually had to watch for the tiny clues as to his patterns (and oh were they tiny!) and dodge accordingly!
Credo was always one of my favorite boss battles. He is not to hard but he is not easy either. He has the perfect dificulty level. Dante is still my favorite boss in DMC 4 but you all get my point. To be honest Vergil is the best.
Small part of me was hoping for a Nero/Credo "Jackpot" scene. lol..

You know, when it first came out back in 2008, I always thought it would have been cool to play as a character that possesses the enemies in DMC4 and using combos with them. It may be contrary to the style of DMC, but I like the more strategy aspect of moving from enemy to enemy since the enemies and bosses all seem to have cool moves and how hectic and fun it would be with DMC's type of combat. Remember how fun it was to play as Ganon in Ganon's fury in HW? Or playing as the Blue Mage in FF having all the monsters moves? How about taking direct control of your units in War for the Overworld? I want that for DMC!
Hmm... makes me think of playing as Paxton Fettel from F.E.A.R. 3. Twould be very interesting in a DMC game.

Fun fact Credo has the same voice actor as Frank West and Dan Southworth did the mocap for him.
Dante was too aggressive, sure he retreated to taunt you and acted like another player, but he never really gave you any room to combo. But Credo. He had super armour and his attacks were easy to dodge, plus he guarded as well, making the whole thing drag out more *plus* he actually clashes with you a lot more, nothing felt bland fighting him! In fact when I fought him, we'd always ended up walking in circles while he delivered some dialogue. I wish we had the ability to replay boss fights without going through the levels again.
Credo is so goddamn cool, such an awesome villain/hero, even with good music. No wonder he's voiced by Vergil's VA :D

Since that moment reality punched me in the face DMC is fucking awesome and I was being an idiot for not playing them before.

Notice how he is the only "angel" who dies peacefully, transforming into dusts of light because he did not believe in domination but rather for the great of all humanity and his sister.
As far as im concerned he is a real angel and would likely end up in heaven with Sparda, not like his other "angel allies" who died a terrible death and ends up in hell.
I like how the Angelo enemies have a sort of DMC1 vibe with their music, Hell Bianco Angelo’s theme even has a remix of Ultra Violet in it at one point.
