    Thank you for this ! Just had a fight against gravity with my golden knight FA100 which damaged rear bearing on impact . So everything needed to come apart and be replaced . But this is the first you tube I found on timing it .

    Thanks for the video! I plan to replace the bearings in my 15 yr old Saito 100 this week. Engine runs great except for noise original bearings.

    One question David how do you remove the cam followers so you can get your little screwdriver into the hole in the crank?

    Hi David. I just tore down my FA-72. The timing mark on the cam gear was mated to the shaft at BDC not TDC. Does it really matter since it's a glow engine (not driving a spark)? Thanks!!

    Another cool trick I learned with Saito cam timing is to put one side of a strong rubber band under the rod pin and the rest around the case. This holds the crank at TDC. Thanks David !

    Pulling the timing gear from Housing , I thought would be evil to get the nylon washers back in place , some oil to hold them and went back togeather fine .
    Question , after cleaning ,i was putting barrel back in carb, a turn felt a snag so removed the barrel and had a look inside the carb body and it appears someone [before me ] had taken flat screw driver and scoured around inside the body [ for what reason?].
    Since inside the body is etched with ? some tool , WILL this allow more air to enter ?causing lean and had I better find a new carb housing? The barrel rotates in the body OK , after i used small emory paper and went around inside with some oil.
    Thanks

    Great videos, when you insert the push rods back in which end of the push rod goes towards the bottom ( cam housing) the tapered end or the round end?

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The round end goes into the cam, the tapered and goes up into the rocker arm.

    I have a FA-65. It's all apart. When I try to push a screwdriver (or a T pin) down the intake valve, I hit a wall. And it's not the cam shaft. The camshaft turns freely. I can't get access to it. I've been soaking the cam housing in Marvel Mystery Oil and heating it to see if something will break loose. Short of taking a punch and a hammer to it, I don't know what I'm trying to break through or if I''m supposed to get aggressive with it. Thanks for any advice.

      Sounds like you are headed for destroying the engine to me. It is a simple as I have shown. If it isn't then there is something wrong and you need to find out what it is. Have you taken the timing gear off the engine and the gear out of the case? Not much information provided but the path you are going down is the wrong one.

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the timing gear isn't removed then the timing can't be off. Yes the timing gear must come off you you intend to replace bearings. The crankshaft cannot come out without the timing case off. I show this is several Saito videos, just watch them all!!

    • @tomepixel
      @tomepixel 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what ya mean , as I see the timing gear OUT of the case in container with all the parts . I've had all the parts in the Ultra sonic , cleaner is brown now . I just hate trying to get the nylon washers back on the shaft in the case . Patience Patience Thanks

    • @dmrcflyr2
      @dmrcflyr2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me amend what I said above. If the timing gear has not come OFF the crankcase, then the timing is not messed up. If you have removed it from the crankcase, then yes it will have to be re-timed.

    • @tomepixel

      I found a screw driver phillips that the OD was almost the ID , but not quite snug in tube to lock gear in place , looked around found a small plastic straw that would fit where push rods go . So with straw and phillips , it was SNUG and held gear in place. I found that getting shaft at TDC , was easy - with bolts that hold cyl on ,screwed into block, was able to keep wrap around where connecting rod attaches , looping rubber band around and up and around the 4 bolts . Held it up just perfect at TDC. then lower the timing gear etc down on shaft.At first it would not mesh ? Further exam showed the main bearing was not fully seated! urrg Back to heat and press- fully seated timing gear meshed just fine. The Ultra sonic cleaner worked well , the Yellow cleaner Awesome Al's , was brown after several timed runs .

      OK, that explains why I couldn't use the Hole/Screw Drive method. I'm waiting for new gaskets and need to clean up some carbon build up but the engine is in pretty good shape otherwise . Reason I'm doing the was a clanking noise heard when spinning the Starter and lack of restart. I did get white smoke out the exhaust strangely enough.
      Your Videos a greatly appreciated...well done Dave.

      Hi Dave, just updating the clean up of both my Saito 120 and Saito 52 four strokes that you helped me with. Both are running perfectly. One note to mention that you might like to try when setting the timing that I did was to determine exact top dead center an easier way. On the 52 Saito I had the head off and just watched the cylinder come up to the top of the cylinder, and on the 120 with the head is still on put an allen wrench down the hole to touch the cylinder head and just watched it , rise to the top. Worked perfectly and was easier then watching the connecting rod through the back of the case when putting the Timing gear in.

      Tip: A strong rear earth magnet on the outside of the timing gear case will help hold the gear in position.

  • @paulinfrance5
    @paulinfrance5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry, but you have it wrong for the first series Saito 150 the cam followers are shouldered, so you can't pull them out to put your screwdriver down the hole, they come out only after you have taken the cam gear out.
