For me the look of the phone, while important and something I sorely miss in the G4, takes a back seat when they get so much else right. You may be able to fix the looks on the G4 with the leather backs when they come out. I think that looks pretty good. The plastic back is chintzy. Apart from that if you put a case on the M9 and/or the G4 then all bets are off since the case covers the looks. The M9 still has the front facing speakers which really should be an industry standard but that said I realized I rarely play the phone without headphones on. That's just me though. YMMV.
MirroTea Better buy M8 because it has actually a better camera and processor isn't overheating. The processor in M9 isn't finished and it lags and sttuters more. So no need for LATEST and GREATEST, buy something that works, and M8 is the way to go for you.
I ended up getting the gold S6 edge. Just looking at it on my desk is worth it. By far one of the most beautiful things I have ever owned. It's right up there with the 27" iMac. Just wow sitting there. Like an art piece. Plus the gold version changes color between gold and chrome. It's like getting two phones in one. I can't see any other phone beating it after owning it.

There are slim ones as well so you don't have that bulk feel. Cases are good. Phones will drop from your hands when you least expect it. But I hear you, I sometimes take the case off my phone's too, but I only do that temporarily. Like when I'm at home, but when I go out it's on.

I was also pleasantly surprised by LG's implementation of Android. The skin is there for sure but not as intrusive and heavy as Touchwiz I feel, with some welcome and actually useful bells and whistles. Purists out there can flash CM anyway. Overall a great looking flagship with a fantastic camera well worth the switch! Definitely a contender for best Android phone in 2015.
I know that after a few minutes of continuous use, my G3 overheats and it feels like there's a fuckin hot plate in my pocket...can you tell if LG somewhat rectified this issue with the G4?

Yo Floss! LG is supposed to have included wireless charging at the last minute. Will that adjust the "Floss Factor" upward? I am definitely upgrading from the G3 to the G4 and the "Floss Factor" is an important consideration when I choose a phone.
Even though I have very little interest in this phone I watched your review anyway cause it is a 'Real Review!' You point out a lot of details that other guys look over.
The way I have worked around the buttons on the back drama is to use the accessibility button... in settings go to accessibility, turn on accessibility functions... it stays on your screen in transparent mode. You get volt up, down, home, power, pinch, screen grab, and voice mate. I don't even use the volume up and down button.
Btw the quick circle case for lg g4 allows some extra features and the case provides wireless charging that way even though the actual case doesn't do that.
Nice review. I actually like the button placement & the way that hold my phone, the sound echoes off of my hand naturally. The knock, knock code can be setup on start up & it doesn't look suspicious because it's LGs popular way of unlocking their phones. A fingerprint scanner would be nice though, but just because of the heartrate monitor feature in the health apps.
I bought the M9 and had to return it because it didn't work on my carrier and also couldn't stand not having a removable battery. I just bought this LG G4 and love the picture quality and multitasking, but hate the speaker placement and sound compared to the front facing ones on the M9. While I can still return it I was wondering if there are any phones out there with a removable battery/expandable memory that also perform well and have a nice screen? I'm fine with 5 inch
I think there might be a few Motorola ones out there but I'm not 100% sure. But caution - you might not get the same specs as this phone right here so be prepared to make a few potential sacrifices here and there
I've done several tests with friends, G4 vs S6 cameras and G4 comes out ahead almost every time. The biggest difference I notice is how they deal with light in darker areas (like a room with windows). The S6 blurs the light a blows it out. The G4 dials it down and doesn't blur as much so you get a clearer picture all round - even in the lighter areas. Definitely a huge noticeable difference. Both cameras are still great though.

How does the microphone perform in loud situations on the G4, such as a band in a bar? I have had major issues with this, but not other smartphones, with previous LG phones (Optimus G specifically). All recordings become a garbled mess when the volume is moderatelt loud. Please tell me this is not the case on the G4 so I can go ahead and get one vs. the S6.

I have the G4 and i like it but as you said, a fingerprint scanner would have been nice. I used to have a iphone 6 plus then i got a galaxy s6 but the s6's screen was to small for my taste but the fingerprint scanner was really sweet. I have a leather version and using without case so for me the build quality is fine, leather feels nice but its still not as premium as the S6. I really like the curved screen though.

I bought the G4 last Friday and sadly it does not feature a dedicated video player app ( nowhere near the standard of Samsung devices). It features a very half -baked , simplistic , one shot video player. Had a few other technical issues.I'm disappointed LG.Returning for full refund at store.

Yo Floss I picked up myself an LG G4 a couple weeks back and I noticed crud and some lint and stuff is getting between the all around bezel and screen, now I did order a screen protector and a blue carbon fiber skin for top bottom sides and back, and front, I want to know if that will help? If not what should I do about this, and is it possible I could take it back?

While I can still return it I was wondering if there are any phones out there with a removable battery/expandable memory that also perform well and have a nice screen? I'm fine with 5 inch
I think there might be a few Motorola ones out there but I'm not 100% sure. But caution - you might not get the same specs as this phone right here so be prepared to make a few potential sacrifices here and there
I've done several tests with friends, G4 vs S6 cameras and G4 comes out ahead almost every time. The biggest difference I notice is how they deal with light in darker areas (like a room with windows). The S6 blurs the light a blows it out. The G4 dials it down and doesn't blur as much so you get a clearer picture all round - even in the lighter areas. Definitely a huge noticeable difference. Both cameras are still great though.

Yo Floss..question? How are you able to use all these different phones? Of course different service providers but then you have different size Sim cards used...micro sims, nano sims etc??? For example if you have two At&t phones, one uses a micro sim, one a nano...how do you swap back and forth between them? Hit me back, much appreciated

Once again a BIG thumbs up for the review! The only thing - bezel around the phone - trust me is not metal, it is also plastic, I have dropped mine, and I can confirm that unfortunately it is a plastic.

I have a question for you floss. When locking the phone at times the lock screen will flicker instead of it fading normally. Just wondering if this happens to yours?
How does the microphone perform in loud situations on the G4, such as a band in a bar? I have had major issues with this, but not other smartphones, with previous LG phones (Optimus G specifically). All recordings become a garbled mess when the volume is moderatelt loud. Please tell me this is not the case on the G4 so I can go ahead and get one vs. the S6.

I think he is saying yes to 'is it worth the upgrade?', rather than trying to say 'its a mandatory upgrade'.
Obviously if you're happy with your G3 and don't wanna spend the cash, then stay put.

Then don't upgrade if you just got the g3. People don't upgrade car 4 month after they just go a new car. I think floss is taking about if you had the g3 when it first came out in early 2014 is it worth upgrading.

I have the G4 and i like it but as you said, a fingerprint scanner would have been nice. I used to have a iphone 6 plus then i got a galaxy s6 but the s6's screen was to small for my taste but the fingerprint scanner was really sweet. I have a leather version and using without case so for me the build quality is fine, leather feels nice but its still not as premium as the S6. I really like the curved screen though.

I bought the G4 last Friday and sadly it does not feature a dedicated video player app ( nowhere near the standard of Samsung devices). It features a very half -baked , simplistic , one shot video player. Had a few other technical issues.I'm disappointed LG.Returning for full refund at store.

Hey Floss, I got the Verus Iron Shield for the iPhone 6, and I absolutely love it, but, I noticed that the cutout for the Lightning connector is pretty small. Should I get the m9 or the G4?? Upgrading from m7. I love the dual front speakers, but I hear it's not that loud on the m9? I watch a lot of videos and listen to music when I'm hanging out with my friends. And I'm not the type to care too much for cameras but is the low lighting on the m9 literally that bad? I mean my m7 has that purple tint issue, now THATS bad. Though I could get it fixed but I'd rather just get a new phone. I also heard that G4 has the shutter speed control, so you can take those awesome light trial pictures and that's definitely something fun I'd like to do and mess with. Yo Floss I picked up myself an LG G4 a couple weeks back and I noticed crud and some lint and stuff is getting between the all around bezel and screen, now I did order a screen protector and a blue carbon fiber skin for top bottom sides and back, and front, I want to know if that will help? If not what should I do about this, and is it possible I could take it back?
