Im glad i experienced this ride as a kid back before the movies came out. Looks like they changed allot. Also the restaurant that was attached to the ride was so awesome! Some of the best memories in my life so far! :D
I love how Johnny jumps back when the robot Sparrow swivels around to stare right at him. He seemed a little freaked out by it... :-D That ride has always been one of my favorites. I love the changes they've made since the movie!

Seems pretty cool but what makes this ride great is the fact that, ever since I've ridden it as a kid, it was always a blast to the 60's stereotypes of pirates. To me that just made it seem so much more authentic. The new additions aren't much, but the ride is still great. The only time it gets rough is the beginning when you drop off the 'world's edge.'
I remember when I was little and I would ride this ride the line would be forever and a day long...omg. The winding in and out of that thing takes forever lol!
I went to the grand re-opening of the ride this weekend, and as a die hard pirates fan, I have to say they did a spectacular job. the only changes were burning wreckage in the brigg, 3 jack sparrows (one replacing the pirates pushing up the chest at the end), the addition of music when the cannons are shot at you, the mentions of jack sparrow, and davy jones. we rode it 5 times...and I agree that walt would have done the same thing. they also smoothed out all the jerks in the animatronics.
I love that ride so much! If you ever get a chance to go, dont over look the ride-throughs! They really are worth the wait! I rode this one 5 times. :P

Love this ride! When I went on it a few years back, something went wrong and the all boats got in like a traffic jam, lol, but we were right in the spot where this song was playing :)

I LOVED this ride, it was one of my FAVOURITE. 'Course it would have been better with the lovely Johnny Depp beside me but hey, cant complain. Alot of people say Disney is was expensive, but when you see this kind of stuff, i have realized the money is SO worth it.

You can REALLY see the progress in animatronics and sculpting that's taken place since this ride was created in the Jack Sparrow animatronics. But to the credit of the original designers and crafters, the original animatronics are still nothing to scoff at. When I was a naive little kid riding this for the first time, I thought they were all real human actors. It certainly must be a peculiar thing to see yourself in animatronic form. Definitely a dip into the uncanny valley.

LOL! Johnny was cute when he tried to touch his charachter towards the end...:D :D :D The ride seems to be much fun, even though it does not look like very scary. There's nothing similar to that here in Hungary (or if it is, then it is hidden somewhere, for I don't know about it)
Can't wait to see the upgrades to the POTC ride, one of my faves at Disneyland! ^_^ I'll be going on July 5th, after Anime Expo ends.. and then POTC 2 will be out shortly afterwards!
OH MY GOD, I can't believe how lifelike those animatronics were! If I were any better at physics and just plain smarter in general I'd love to get a career doing things like that...wow.
I concur. my grandfather was the electrician foreman on POTC when it was being built and since he died, it bothers me a lot that they messed with it, especially since I never got to ride it when it was still 'classic'.

The wait was really long, about 30-45 mins and it was quiet! lol
