Me too. He's consistently excellent. To me he's the rare combination of a super strong player and a fantastic teacher; he's a great communicator of accessible, digestible ideas. Whenever I play an OTB tournament game and I have the urge to play hastily, I start hearing Var saying, "don't rush, don't rush" and all is well again.

@12:53 seconds the computer moves queen to a7 the continuation rook to a7 leaves black up a queens worth of material hard to belive a grand master missed that and instead he chooses rook c8 @12 :56 i dont understand this i feel like a grand master up a queen should be winning even with whites spatial advantage if for no other reason than the amount of harrasement that could insue from the queen perhaps someones chess computer can tell me why im wrong
So where do I send my cash? Directly to Ben Simon for his production work? To the instructors for their weekly preparation and great lectures or the CCSCSL for putting this whole thing together? Chess has never been more relevant in the U.S. than now... ;)
1. Ra8?? Qxa8 2. Nxc6?? Nxc6 (2. Nxb7 Qxb7 3. Ba6 Qb8 4. Bxc8 Bxc8 (4... Qxc8?? 5. Ra8 Qb7 6. Qa7 should win for white) 5. Ra8 Qb7 6. Ra7 Qb8 7. Ra8 seems to draw) 3. Rxa8 Rxa8 leaves black winning with two rooks and a knight against a queen and a pawn.
Well what I think when I compare Akobian's lectures to Finegold's I think technically both are Fantastic though I would be more enthusiastic to listen to Fingold due to his more Humorous style.....Though it's just a personal opinion and some people may like more non-humorous lecturers like Akobian....
Var you're an assassin. For the sake of instruction, I suggest that you smile more to lighten the tone of your instruction and strengthen the usefulness of your phenomenal insights.
Patrick Moloney well I did learn with him and as far as I know I'm not the only one. Not all of his lectures are the same way, did you watch the videos he uploaded in his channel? He wasn't making jokes there, that was good stuff.
Varuzhan Akobian is my favourite lecturer

At 34:28 Stockfish gives a draw if Black foregoes g6 and plays Qa3 instead.

Even in 1997 computers were too strong for a human to use tactics to go ahead a queen in material. Look again at your idea.
omegaredduck, I can't make sense out of what you're trying to say. Can you explain using chess notation?
He wasn't going forward with his moves. He was going backward. The actual moves were Qa7, Rc7, and then Qc6.
So where do I send my cash? Directly to Ben Simon for his production work? To the instructors for their weekly preparation and great lectures or the CCSCSL for putting this whole thing together?
Chess has never been more relevant in the U.S. than now... ;)
Send it to me. Very poor.
why didn't Kasparov ever play bishop to c5?
hi please enlighten me! fast forward to "30:00". why shouldn't i do Ra8?? follow me : 1. Ra8 Qxa8 2. Nxc6!! Black has to sacrifice the queen right ?
1. Ra8?? Qxa8
2. Nxc6?? Nxc6
(2. Nxb7 Qxb7 3. Ba6 Qb8 4. Bxc8 Bxc8 (4... Qxc8?? 5. Ra8 Qb7 6. Qa7 should win for white) 5. Ra8 Qb7 6. Ra7 Qb8 7. Ra8 seems to draw)
3. Rxa8 Rxa8 leaves black winning with two rooks and a knight against a queen and a pawn.
oh!
Thanks!!
Ba6 29:09
B5 21:05
Deep Blue is a "he"? Not an "it"? Did Akobian look behind Deep Blue's panelling?
It's a computer, in grammar it's no-nonsense
Feminist would be offended
Why didn’t Kasparov just beg the computer for mercy
Lmao

Dubious!! He said "Dubious" TWICE!!!

What? No study at the end?!!? ;-)
Ra7+kg8!
K.
no hands up wooo
Who else is here due to lockdown?
for novice players is much easier to look at the position in the perspective of black side of the board!!!
Var you're an assassin. For the sake of instruction, I suggest that you smile more to lighten the tone of your instruction and strengthen the usefulness of your phenomenal insights.
we need more Finegold! :D
+xxtrollerxx trollinator5000 I learned a lot with Finegold.
akobian is so much better than finegold
Finegold is funny and entertaining, Akobian is much solid teacher.
Patrick Moloney well I did learn with him and as far as I know I'm not the only one. Not all of his lectures are the same way, did you watch the videos he uploaded in his channel? He wasn't making jokes there, that was good stuff.
I prefer Akobian. Solid. Very solid.
I watch this video on oct 2018.. like if you also same with me
nice guy, but he never explained how to spot good breakthroughs, what to look for and what to be careful about. not recommended for beginners
