      I'm wondering with all that low end torque if a modern 8 speed automatic transmission would improve gas mileage and top speed in one modification? Especially in an even lighter and more aerodynamic body. Like a stretched VW Bug and diesel engine (Testarossa type side air intakes) mid-mounted behind driver, oil cooler and fuel up front. You'd have a decent daily driver highway machine sipping at 60mpg going 70mph. How fast it gets to 70mph depends on gearing and curb weight, but being obsessed with drag strip times is something the fellas worried about what the fellas might think a bit much. Most of us really just want sustainable reliable rides that are both affordable and low impact on the environment. This swap is definitely in the spirit of that aspiration.

    I’m sure it’s unbearably slow, very loud, hard to drive, much heavier, hard to source parts, and generally a huge downgrade all around, and I absolutely love it! Great job and super creative man!

      Has a video of him cruising at 63
      Waste oil is something mechanics have to pay to be hauled away, so you are getting transportation that is free at 45mpg and a lot more usable torque. If you break a deutz you are doing something wrong lol

      Parts are actually very common and relatively cheap. They are very common heavy industrial engines for things like generators, pumps, etc.

    • @Greg-io1ip
      @Greg-io1ip 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why would it be 'much heavier'? Are you paying attention to all the parts eliminated? You think he's getting 45mpg because "it's much heavier"? Take some physics courses. Stay away from the red hat rallies. The fat orange oaf literally can't even drive a car. A golf cart was foreign to him and had to be driven by a caddy until he was 60 years old. You paying attention?

Make sure you install it with the diaphram on top, there is oil in the input shaft that needs to drain off the diaphram. Enough vacuum for your brakes. 👍👍

      I need to tap your brain on the whole "SAE ___ bellhousing pattern" thing
      I had heard about that before and got the impression that SAE has standardized bellhousing patterns over the years and you can some how get your hands on a spreadsheet of sorts. And that way you can cross reference things and be like "oh look, this skid steer diesel will pair up to a TH350, or C6..." or whatever. Maybe I have unrealistic thoughts, but it seems like you hinted at it a little in your video that maybe my previous thought might be closer to reality than a myth I'm holding on to.

    • @adampavick7007
      @adampavick7007  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In the case of Deutz diesels, it's kind of confusing since they almost always came with a flywheel housing which has a circular SAE 3 or 4 bolt pattern on the output side. The holes tapped into the block are roughly the same diameter as SAE3, but the spacing is different and it's lopsided with bolt holes around the starter. Most medium duty transmissions would need both an SAE bellhousing and flywheel housing to bolt to a deutz. My Iveco trans is the only one I know of that bolts directly to a Deutz block with no flywheel housing required. Luckily, I was also able to get the matching flywheel and pressure plate that were originally used with my trans.

      I wouldn't worry about it. I have an F4L912W mounted transverse in an EIMCO LHD; we run that machine at 2300 RPM almost 100% of the time and it doesn't even try to overheat. Speed is usually 5 mph or slower. I have another F4L912W in a 5-ton underground truck with the fan facing the tailgate, also no overheating issues. With air being forced directly into the fan in this truck, it'll stay nice and cool.

    looks good, just wondering what you did for cabin heat,did you put the engine oil through the heater core?can you maintain 65mph?

    • @adampavick7007
      @adampavick7007  6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I tried oil through the heater core as well as an electric heater. Neither worked. Finally got a Chinese knockoff of an Eberspacher diesel-fired heater. Puts out a lot of heat, but the combustion chamber builds up with soot pretty quick. I also use it as an intake heater when it's outside below zero. 65 is top speed with 2500 rpm governor, but it has no problem holding that speed, even up steep hills.

      Depends on rear gear. Stock 88 era 5 spd might hit 80-85 with 4.10s. swap in a set of 3.45s from the 2wd 3spd auto and should get about the same from an engine that redlines around 3500. This setup (looks like 4wd, most likely 4.10s) might hit 55. Don't know if it's stock trans or not, but a turbo and a gear vendors would make it capable of 100+

    I was going to advise a vacuum reservoir, but I see you mentioned it on a reply. How much of an improvement did it add? Also, I would love to keep air conditioning in my truck. Is there any way without major engineering to power a compressor?

    pretty cool Swap and set up i love the fuel economy , the exhaust note sounds like a old Detroit 2 Stroker Diesel which happens to be one of my favorite Marine Diesels and Antique Bus / Motorhome Powerplants in regards to the Vacumn pump today with the Internet being such a powerful tool there are many DC Vacumn Pumps available inexpensively as they are used for casting and Vacumn Bagging you could always rig up a Inverter system and plug something like that in to give you a faster and more powerful Vacumn for the brake system i didn’t realize that the Compatability for Transmissions was as easy as it is with those Engines i’m kind of curious as to how that motor would be for towing since that’s why i drive a Chevy 3500 Duramax 4X4 Dually Diesel in the States but the drawback is horrible Fuel Economy as the truck is set up with 410 gears and it will pull a house off the foundation it seriously sucks down the Fuel at any speeds over 55 MPH pulling a 5th Wheel trailer or a large Motor Boat. on the highways
