Love it when you say we'll soon be back in Titchfield, the pubs will be open by now and Logan licks his chops and then yours, proper little boozer he's turning out to be. Enjoy yourselves while you can. We miss our little Cairn terrier Laura who gave us 15 years of joy and licks.
Hi Dave, as a child in the late 1960s, my school sometimes used the Stubbington Activity Centre, near Titchfield. I distinctly remember being shown a brick (and possibly flint wall) near the centre of Titchfield that had rows of bones incorporated into it! I’ve searched the internet and can find only one vague reference to it in a newspaper article from 2002 which places it in West Street. I don’t know whether you’ve come upon it. Next time I visit my sister in Fareham I’ll search for it and undertake part of your walk too.
As kids at the end of the fifties we walked along the River Meon (which was pronounced like the name Ian rather than me on). I never realised it was a canal. We walked from the small bridge in Titchfield down to the shore on The Solent which we called Meon Beach. We would take sandwiches and a drink with us and stay most of the day. I believe the carnival you referred to was held in November and may have been the first Monday. In the evening there was a bonfire in the Titchfield Recreation Ground along with a funfair. All this was arranged by the Titchfield Bonfire Boys.
Interesting, Dave, what you called a bulrush. I've always wondered exactly what they are, so I checked them out on Google. Here in the states we refer to them as "cattails". When we were children, we used to harvest them, dry them out, and then light them to make them smoke and deter mosquitoes. For some reason, we called them "punks" when they were dried and used this way. I have no idea why or where the term originated. They're also used here in dried flower arrangements. Loving all of the information you insert here and there to make your walks so interesting! Thank you!
Hello Dave. Now that’s somewhere we must go when summer comes and the pubs are open again. Such a pretty walk alongside the old canal and river. I spent much of my childhood in East Meon and that holds fond memories for me. Have you done a walk around the village yet? It’s a charming place.
I filmed mid Sept 2020. I recorded the scenes in the streets of Titchfield fairly early (before it got too busy!) but there were a fair few folk walking along the canal as it turned out to be a lovely sunny day. Thanks for watching.
Ah ... Sandbanks..a lovely part of the world. I am planning to do more video walks in Dorset during 2021 so do look out for those! Thanks for watching.
Lived here for almost 7 years- blissful. Thanks for the memories!
Thank you Sam. What a wonderful place to have lived in.
Logan is a beautiful dog Dave. He makes me smile . Lovely walk with you both. I learn so much about the places you go to. Thank you both👏🏻☀️
Thanks Melissa. Logan is very fond of walks that involve a visit to the sea!
Lovely countryside. My home patch for 20 years. Thank you Dave. 🙏
Thanks Paul. A lovely area to live in for sure. Thank you for watching.

Yes, that was Logan looking forward to his bag of crisps!
@@DaveFord Hello Dave. I've just realised that walk was 2 years ago.

Hi Mark. No, I don't recall coming across the wall that you mention. Sounds insteresting!
I know it well, I used to live in West Street, Titchfield. The wall and it’s bones is in West Street at approximately no.42.
@@eloiseburnop4147 thank you for confirming that. Time plays tricks on one’s memory.
Another very enjoyable video Dave and the very lovely Logan. Looking forward to the next one.

Lovely walk Dave, I have not been to Titchfield Haven since I was about six years old. I think the fish in the canal were Chub. Many thanks.
Thanks Peter. The water was so clear there....it was like looking into an aquarium!
Very enjoyable Dave. I note you very skilfully sidestepped the pronunciation of "Wriothesley"! Best wishes John👍
Ah ha - you noticed! :)
Loved this walk, thankyou. I've now put it on my list to do.
Thanks Anne. It is a lovely walk to do. Thank you for watching.

It is a lovely walk at Titchfield....but I guess it gets busy during the peak periods. East Meon is on my list of "walks to do" as well as Meonstoke.
@@DaveFord I’m so pleased to hear you might go to East Meon. I only lived there for 4 years , but I’ve always called it home.
Thanks
Thank you.
Where is everybody?. Usually pretty busy, but I see this is summer probably before lockdown?

In the 70s the titchfield gang were much feared
Thanks for that information.
I used to live west of Fareham (Peak Lane) and we were fed stories about the Titchfield gang. Didn't stop us making The Wheatsheaf our local, though.
I live in Dorset and walk my dogs in sandbanks every early morning, if u care to join me one day, that would be nice xx
