Noticed outside that the m50 has better stabilization.... Watching the edges of the picture live, it's quite noticeable that the m50 actually performs better. It also looks more zoomed in, but just saying. That's not always a good thing if the picture is softer though... So it's hard to say.
I noticed that too about it looking like it's more zoomed in. I checked it and both were zoomed all the way out. I'm thinking the M50 may have a little more aggressive IS crop for it's "enabled" setting.
As a photographer, which one would be better for stills? The extra dials on the M5 seem quite useful, (M5 also has more battery life?) while the M50 seems to be aimed more towards beginner/auto mode use with the more basic controls. What would your opinion be? Is the M5 still worth it today? Would one be missing out too much by getting the M5 over the M50?
M5 better for photography. All day. The M5 has a bigger buffer so you can burst longer and iirc the M5 burst is a bit faster too, atleast it seems a bit faster. The M5 is worth it still in 2018 if a small, capable camera, is what you need. The M5 is the one I would highly recommend for photos over the other M options.
Yeah. The M5 definitely feels like it's built better when handling the camera. The M50 wins on a lot of image quality aspects though... The only thing I like the M5 over the M50 is with the M5 and taking photos you can burst for much more photos than the M50.
I this "test" I'm not able to find where is M50 better in image quality - in oposite M5 video seems to have better white balance and less agresive contrast (ligts are M50 more often overexposed/clipped). I would choose M5 because of better ergonomy (dials) and tilting screen which is more usefull for photography. Only if body can be bigger or price similar to M50 ...
Robb Jackson if you are using an iOS device, the best editor out now is LumaFusion. Adobe is working on a product called Rush now that will be interesting when it releases to the public!
For photography I would choose the 80D. I'm a photographer by day and prefer bigger cameras when doing my work. But if you need a small camera the M5 does just as well. Oh and the M5 is like a 7D Mark II with regards to burst! The 80D is a bit slow on the burst. But anyway. Uhhh depends on what you shoot honestly. The 80D takes EF lenses natively and does feel a little more robust in the hands.
Goblin Ninjaa both will be fine for photos and videos. What’s better? They are too close. But if you are fine with the bigger size of the 80D do the 80D.
Hello, and thank you for your review first! So would u recommend me to sell my old 600D with the kit 18-55mm, 55-250mm lenses to get the M5 body with that EF lense adapter? Im mainly using it for photography and the 600D is just too old and not having too many new and convenient features as the new ones have. Im not aiming for pro photographing tho. Thx!
The M5 is solid for photography and if you have EF lenses already get the adapter for the Canon mirrorless cameras! You can either get the Canon or Fotodiox adapter (which I reviewed here on my channel and is exactly like the Canon). But if you are just looking for photography, the Canon M50 is great too. The only big difference for photography between the M5 and M50 is the M50 has eye tracking so it'll track the eyes of subjects you photograph but the M5 has a significantly bigger buffer size so you can burst for much longer on the M5. You also save a few hundred with the M50. Both are a great upgrade from the 600D.
if you haven't made the move yet, id say m5/m6 with their 3 dial setup would be best for photography. the m50 for video (only having a single dial) and with the new image processor images/videos should be processed a little better (less noise etc) gl :)
I'm so confused cause the canon m50 looks yellow when compared to how you and your surrounds look in the m5 and x7g mark ii. But when I seen other people recording using the m50 they don't look yellow. Want to by the m50 but I'm stuck because I like the cut mark ii. Cause it transitions faster when you moved it from your face to the sun shining through the shades
Hey mate, Hope you're well! I need some help... I am looking at either the Sony A6300 or the Canon M50. it will be my first camera and i will be using it for Vlogging, video in my room for youtube videos, recording daily activities either selfie mode or normal mode, recording activities, sporting events/me playing sport, family/social events and also taking pictures however priority will be video with photos being secondary. I have managed to come across the A6300 with the kit lens for $1090 AUD and the Canon M50 with the kit lens for $699 AUD. (offer for a short time only). My initial worry and still is the heating of the Sony cameras, we're not able to refund the item here in AUS as we don't have the 30 day return/exchange as some stores in the US do as ive been told and heard about. So buying one is crucial. Given all that data mate and your personal experiences which should i go and which would you go personally? 4K at times would be nice but not needed on my end tbh, either all both 4K is terrible given the timing limit on Sony and the crop on Canon. Is the A6300 worth the extra 400 dollars? taking into account the need for accessories and an SD card! Any help is greatly appreciated mate! Look forward to hearing back from you shortly.
I shoot Sony but I would only start at their A7 line tbh. Or their RX100 line. I’m not a big fan of the A line and have many people that have gotten into the A line to get out. But the safe bet will be go with the M50 first. See what you can do with it and upgrade later to something full frame if that’s your thing. For blogging, autofocus is amazing. I choose having the best autofocus over 4K right now. 4K isn’t really needed. 4K isn’t really watched either on line when compared to 1080p and 720p.
The M5 is better. Hence why it's more expensive. Nobody films in total darkness so the M50 being able to see a tiny bit in darkness means nothing. We film in well lit areas. In saying it though both are expensive for only 1080p camera. Old technology now.
They are a bit expensive for not offering 4K in 2018. But they both do very well for their price range. The M5 being better because it’s more expensive is subjective. It really does depend on what factors we are talking about. The M5 is super dated. I can’t wait to see what Canon has in store for the M5 Mark II
Binh Dong nothin in particular. Maybe cinematic samples? Haha. I'm just really into the M-line too despite their shortcomings. I still use my M1 on a regular basis. 😄
I'm currently working on cinematic something with the canon cameras. I'm not so well versed in this area so I'm learning as I go. But something cinematic should come out sooner or later!
Thanks for watching and commenting. When I was looking for a camera as myself back in the day I really wanted to see comparison like this side by side but not many people did it or not any at all so I figured I help people since I have the equipment
Awwww yeah😂 Great video and good comparison. I think I like the m50 better because of the flip out screen, other than that I don’t see a huge difference between them.
why full auto? No Vloger worth their salt will use full auto. Show us what the cameras can really achieve, not what the mode that no one uses can do. The end result is all that matters. Did you use the AWB set to white priority?
No one uses full auto? Really? That’s interesting. And any seasoned vlogger probably wouldn’t be looking for videos like this. They would have already established their style, brand loyalty and probably use the camera company’s flagship camera. The Canon M50 isn’t gear towards professionals, as well as my channel. I’m here for the beginners, people who are getting into vlogging and whoever wants to be here. Generally most vloggers use full auto on their vlogs...the majority don’t even understand the exposure triangle to even shoot manual when just starting or if they are not a tech person. I’m catering to my audience. Like you said, the end result is what matters. Oh and AWB by default is in Ambience.
@@davebassP5 You're full of crap. You either don't own the 5D4 and M50 (or you'd know how vastly superior the FF camera is, especially in low light) or you don't know how to use a DSLR. Secondly, you proved you know f'all about video. If you're moving in and out of different lighting conditions you most certainly use auto settings of some kind (whether it be auto ISO or full auto on this particular camera). If you set it to manual you're locking in your exposure, so if you set it right in the shade, you'll blow everything out as soon as you walk into direct sunlight. Set the exposure while you're in direct sunlight and everything will go super dark when you walk into the shade. Having the camera on auto, it'll adapt the exposure to the lighting conditions as they change.
