What makes a good tutorial video: 1. Good Intro 2. Detailed explanation 3. HD quality 4. Widescreen 5. Cool bike 6. Good rider Thanks! Now i can wheelie very long :)
I have been wheelie'ing for a long time, but have always had problems with the proper side-by-side weight shifting, resulting in ending the wheelie premature if I fall too much to one side.. Thank you for the detailed write-up - I have to practice that more now! I appreciate your time and dedication to do this tutorial.
When you start, you will be using the brake more to help balance and avoid falling backwards. As you practice more, you'll be able to use your body more to balance and the brake less.
Dude I've been looking all over TH-cam for how to wheelie and I've gotten kids who just say "lift the front wheel and pedal" and then they show you a demonstration. (They suck) and then you have this guy here who actually shows you every step and detail of it. I found this really helpful and this is the most helpful video I've seen thanks bro keep up the good work 👍👍
What a very educational video by a well spoken instructor who conveys excellent information on how to ride a wheelie. I will use these tips to teach my children how to ride a wheelie.
Thank you! I finally did it after 2 days, pushing down plus peddling really lifts the front wheels.. Gotta have a bit of balls because you wont know how far the front wheel will lift so take it easy.
That is brilliant ! I was trying for ages to figure out how to manual and your advice (to practice the wheelie on a downhill gradient) is freaking genius. Your vids are really great.
this has been great! "PUT YOUR CHEST ALMOST ON THE BARS AND ROCK BACK" I tried that last night and walked my first really successful wheelie! (probably 10 yards) just keep practicing! Thank you! this video helps a lot
I'm an experienced road cyclist and have just bought my first MTB at the age of 47 - thought it would involve minor changes in riding technique (doh!) Very well produced video which doesn't leave any questions unanswered - all that's needed after watching this is bags of practice and perhaps the odd bruise on the backside.
Wheelies aren't the kind of trick that you learn in a day. You just keep practicing whenever you're riding your bike. I've been doing them for years and they only get funner :) Great video BTW!
Extremely helpful tutorial. I like how you informed us of a couple ways to safely escape from the wheelie, and to practice to get up our courage first. Many tutorials gloss over this, thinking we are all fearless. :P
Hi, agree with the others, this is most helpfull vid for wheelie. Most important tip I saw in no other vid sofar, is to put down the saddle a few cm and to get of the bike to the back in the beginning if you feel unsave. Gonna try this evening, hopefully with better success by knowing your tips. Great job dude. THX! Edit: After trying again i could feel first success. If you don´t mind I would offer one more tip: for first attempts reduce air pressure of you back tire for about 0,5bar. That makes it more easy to keep balance. If you become better return to your normal tire pressure. Have fun trying
Because of your tutorial I learned a wheelie in 3 weeks ,I started at second speed front and first speed back ,now i find 2nd speed front and 2nd speed back the best ,but it depends on your bike and ,mine is a cross country 24 speed hardtail so you guys try this gear that i started with ,so it will hopefully help you :D
NIce video! I used to wheelie for max 20 meters, but after watching this video and of course practising these techniques, I can do 660 meters long wheelie.. Thank you very much! :)
this is really the 'worlds best how to wheelie' video. thanks to this i progressed alot! now i can lift my front wheel up into my balance point. my main problem is just how to pedal it, everytime i pedal, it's just force my front wheel down to the ground.
33 years old and just found balance point today, i have found by looking at the horizon rather than down at the front wheel helps a lot with balance. gears = small on front, 5th on rear, or middle on front + 3rd on rear. practice, practice, practice.....
great tutorial! im trying to learn... never have been that good with side to side balance, though and i am struggling to find the point of good front to back balance. ill keep practicing
thanks man much appreciated cos im only 13 and my mates were like omg you can't wheelie so iv'e been looking constantly for vids like these and all of them are crap !!! but this really helped thanks :)
scott, im 40 already and im trying to learn this and to bunny hop, goal is to do these tricks before i die :-) im also practicing with teenagers and they are more than willing to teach me how to do it.
I have been trying to do this for the last 6 months.. no luck.....I admire your skills even more now....not easy... I almost wanna blame my bike and not me....haha
I learned on a beat up old fixie when I was just a kid. Could wheelie for blocks. Now I'm 52, have a mountain bike that cost more than 50 of those early bikes, and for the life of me I can't wheelie more than about 20 feet. I must find that sweet spot again!
I learned doing wheelies at home 3 years ago and i am pretty good now (but still not perfect)(i dont know why did it took me so long) But you my friend actually said everything that i did thru these 3 years its interesting that somebody used the same technique
This is a real good video when I first watched this I could barley get my wheel of the ground , now I can wheelie for like 5 seconds straight but I know soon I'll be able to go for ages.
Thankx for the tutorial, BEST TUTORIAL EVER!!! just wondering, is it possible to wheelie on a hard tail mtb and my bike's frame is a little more longer than yours.
in the video it says to choose a gear that allows you to get the front wheel high enough with just one or two pedal strokes... try experimenting until you can do this. Hope that helps!
awesome tutorial after 2 week of practising every day for about 2 hours i can finally do it :) thx zep your video was really helpfull and its damn fun to wheelie :))
It is always best if you ride with a few mates. Always gives the courage needed. Awesome vid. I like the fact that you taught the ppl how to dismount when they flip. Fall and exit strategy is a great learning phase. our group actually practice various falls. sounds crazy, but its a great way to avoid injuries. Please dont try at home, lol... Nice vid...
@eurogq Ha!! Keep going... you'll get it. It took me 6 months to learn when I was a kid after school everyday. The vid will keep you on the right track hopefully
No matter what ANYONE says, wheelies are the best tricks EVAR!!!!! lol Nothing beats a long ass wheelie. Or manual. Or some gnarly combo of both sitdown and standup.
Thanks alot, Got a gazelle mountainbike 4.0 PRO myself and I'm really willing to learn how to wheelie good. Space is enough at where I live, I just can't seem to hold the balance to the left and right quite good. I'm in first gear out of 24. Any tips are gratefully accepted.
helpful thanks i did this perfectly but then i fell so hard my legs hurt now im so sad that i cant ride now im so excited and cannot wait to try that out again
If you look at the video, is shows you a good gear to start in... middle chainring on the front and then one of the 3 largest cogs on the back, is a good place to start. If the gear is too easy, you will spin out too soon and won't be able to control your fore-aft balance. Also, it will make you go too slow... making it hard to control your left-right balance. Hope that helps!
Nice vid! LOVE how in depth you went with it! Lots of vids like this tell you how to do things in a "C'mon, it's easy! How can't you do it?" kinda why, but I like the way you broke it down to even the most basic parts! Things like this are only easy when you know how, and why you don't detailed vids like this are REALLY useful! Thanks! Gonna check out your other vids, now, hopefully you have one for bunny hopping! :D
Amazing video, I ended up being able to wheelie after 3 or 4 tries. But unfortunately after getting overconfident, I slipped off the back and broke my ankle 😂😂. Now I have time to study this video and try again once I'm healed 🤙.
THANK YOU for the tips. I will use them so I can do a wheelie. And then move on to doing a manual. Do you also think that I should do these skills in this order wheelie-manual-bunny hop? I'm trying to learn all 3
@janzervids see the gear bit in the video... try starting with your chain on the middle ring (2 on the left) and either 1, 2, or 3 on the right. Hope that helps!
I raced BMX as a kid, rode mt bikes since my teens. I can ride a wheelie at 20mph, or 100mph on a motorcycle. I've NEVER been able to ride one on a bicycle without falling left or right! Hopefully I saw my error in your vid! Will try again tomorrow. lol.
Thanks for this tutorial. I think it's also good to note that if you position your body so it's vetically symetrical to the back hub then that helps with the balance - or am i wrong?
@MTARPshoujiro Try a harder gear so you can wheelie a little faster for better balance. You can also keep your arms a little tense (not allowing them to go completely straight) which can make it easier to balance left to right.
The quality still better than my camera 2019
Thank you finally I learn how to wheelie...After one and a half year of practicing.....:D
awesome tutorial thanks ZEP
This is the most helpful wheelie vid i have ever seen! Thanks.
What makes a good tutorial video:

THE BIKE IS A TRANSITION COVERT. Full suspension bike, but you can do these techniques on any mountain bike with or without suspension
That is brilliant ! I was trying for ages to figure out how to manual and your advice (to practice the wheelie on a downhill gradient) is freaking genius. Your vids are really great.

Thank oyu for teaching me to wheelie it such a good thing and was perfect to wheelie now thanks again
Dude this is brilliant, awesome, really usefull, rename the title to:The Best Wheelie Guide Ever Made worldwide :D
THANK YOU for the tips. I will use them so I can do a wheelie. And then move on to doing a manual.

thanks for this vid I just got a new nice mt bike and am determined to get this down
Best vid on this yet. Thanks.
Thanks for this tutorial. I think it's also good to note that if you position your body so it's vetically symetrical to the back hub then that helps with the balance - or am i wrong?
Excellent tutorial, really well explained!!
thanks, this helped so much i am up to an avg of 25 yds in 3 days
Thanks for the vid. Always had trouble holding a wheelie. Does it matter which gear?
your bike looks real sweet!!
@MTARPshoujiro Try a harder gear so you can wheelie a little faster for better balance. You can also keep your arms a little tense (not allowing them to go completely straight) which can make it easier to balance left to right.
wow.. this is the best tutorial... literally got me wheeling in seconds!
