That 318 Dodge V8 motor's condition reminded me of my mom's 1965 Ford LTD's 390 after she overheated it to the point it just stopped running when she finally got to work. Ran rough for about three weeks after words. She asked me if it needed a tune-up. I took it to a local shop and left it. They called me as soon as I got home saying they couldn't tune it up because they couldn't adjust the valves or get a good compression reading. My cousin and I took on the job of replacing that motor with a long block replacement. Like your engine, her push rods were bent, cylinders were heavily scored from piston rings crumbling, the oil was a mess and the cam lobes showed signs of excessive heat discoloration like yours. OBTW: The intake manifold of the Ford 390 requires you to be a gorilla to lift it off or put it back on. 4 separate gaskets under that manifold didn't help either during re-assembly.

The way the back end of that truck rattled on the test drive, I thought it was the crew cab 1963 dodge on Christmas vacation.
